Welcome!
It's the new PD Quiz.
It's a fun thread where people in the PD ask others in the PD quiz like questions.
No prizes, just for fun.

For example:
I would ask: Question 1- In V2 what is the selector for Recent Visitors?
Question 2- In Old School how do you make a custom section?

The next person would answer to the best of their ability.

This originated from sikh-91 in The CPC.

Here's her quote:
Quote:
Ooh, I have an idea...

How about a profile quiz, you ask like 10 questions, and a person can only answer one.
It'd be like a teaching way too.
So it'd be a Q/A type quiz. Use a question that's usually asked *mostly everyday* and someone will have to give the right answer.

Example...
Question 1 - 'How would you centre a profile in V2 profiles'
Question 2 - 'What is the code for hover links'
It'd help people too x)

Like the idea?
Well then! Get going and answer the two questions I set!

P.S. It's called official, because it was/is the very first.

DO I HAVE TO ADD MY OWN QUESTIONS D:

dangit i read the wrong questions hold on

#id_footprints for recent visitors

and
Custom section text here
OR
Custom section text here
int he about me section

with the selectors

#about ul{ }
OR
#about ol{ }

LOL I FAIL AT LIFE
BUT I AM EXCITED ABOUT THIS IDEA BECAUSE I'M A DORK

lol, my claim plot of post has been taken. But no worries. Where are my set of questions to answer? 8UU Well, I'll add some more then.

Name one site that starts with a p or t where you can get great gaiaonline profiles and resources.

Yeh, otherwise there wouldn't be questions for the next person.

Yay! You should thank sikh then, she came up with the pretty awesome idea.

Edit: tektek.com and ph....Can't remember =V

My Questions
1 - Does z-indexing work without the section being moved from it's original position?

The other answer is phailbucket.com 3nodding

As to your question, I think yes, it does. surprised (I has no experience with it though, which is why this thread will be good to learn from ^^)

Question: How can you tell that a profile is from tektek.org or some other resource?

No, it does need to be moved, even if it's 1 px.
Erm....Some type of code fail?

Question 1 - What does -moz-transform do?

It needs to be positioned absolutely for z-index to work ;3;

You can tell a profile is from another source by the tags or logos left on the layout or in the code. You can tell it's specific to TekTek if it starts off with this code that they automatically add into the CSS when a theme is submitted due to an error a while back where sections would overlap each other in IE
#content #main, #about, #journal, #friends, #multimedia, #comments, #signature{height: auto;}

-moz-transform is CSS3 that lets you rotate the section? IDK how indepth that goes though.

also lol I totally did not guess phailbucket and was a part of it

HMMMM A QUESTION
How would one remove the image corners from the comments captions on an Old School profile?

To specify, no it doesn't need to be moved at all, the positioning must not be static however. I don't exactly know why but I understand that it is a part of the C.S.S Web Standard for z-indexing to work. Example, you can set the position to relative but not specify any movement, thus the element stays where it is but inherits the relative value.

-moz-transform allows you to "manipulate an element" beyond just moving it. It can be used to create 3d type effects depending on how it is used. It pretty much adds a third dimension of "movement" to a 2d browser. =D That's my take on it anyway. For more information about the -moz-transform property see here. =)

Radiocarbon's question

Set a display of "none" to the ".caption:before", ".caption:after", ".caption2:before" and ".caption2:after" selectors.

Oh damn I forgot to ask a question. What screen resolutions are the "best" to work your profile to and how do you auto center your content on your profile. =D

1024x768, a small 16:9 resolution, and a small 16:10 resolution.

content: #columns{position:relative; width: xxpx;(I tend to go 1000 here) margin:auto;}

How do you position something outside a column without it cutting off or totally vanishing?

Well, if we're equating alcohol to n-dimensional space...

#columns, #column_1, #column_2, #column_3{overflow:visible;}

um um hmmmmmmmmm
What's the selector for the annoying little "Alert me of Comments" link ;3;

<- I have much fan-love for Albel Nox. :D

That selector would be #alerts_banner. 4laugh

What is the selector for the "Find Friends" link? : )

The selector for "Find Friends" would be "#find_friends_banner". xD

When making a profile, what set of steps (or what process) do you go through graphic wise. Do you select your images or do your images select you? =P

That's one hard question to answer. The images are a work that represent a part of me, but as the creator of them (or constructing them in some way), I'd say that I select the images, since I choose what I is, therefore I am. (Boyfriend's logic that works for me)

Next question: What are /*comment tags*/ for?

And we have contests! C:
I'm assuming you mean these marks right: /* if so, they're used to leave comments on the css page without actually affecting the coding.

Mostly used for organization and across companies with multiple coders to help them understand tidbits of coding and such.

Question: How many years ago did the V2 profile style come out?
