Of course that's not an option for everyone.

All I can ask is that if you do choose to borrow images/brushes/cursors/art/photos/etc., you must give credit and/or link back to where you got it from. (You should also get permission from the creator if you can.) And I have the rule that images which are obviously copyrighted (such as logos, photos of celebrities, and images of anime/manga or book characters) are not allowed to be used.

Many, many, many users have borrowed images, especially from deviant art, and given credit for the borrowed images on their profile, and I have not heard anything from a mod saying that I had to cancel a trade or disqualify them.

As I have stated before, the only way to really know if a particular image you wish to use in this contest is going to prohibit you from keeping any prize you win, you must ask a moderator. Even knowledgeable folks trying to help you by posting what they have interpreted as the answer may not absolutely solve the issue because we are not moderators. xp They have a job on Gaia, and I'm sure they would be happy to assist you, should you choose to ask them to. 3nodding

because i don't know what falls under public domain?

flickr the photographer has the option of not allowing you to download or allowing you to download.
i guess i'm confused.

i doubt i can produce something to what other people have submitted.
but i think it will be good practice to learn the code more.

While that may be true, or rather, "something like that" may be "somewhere along the lines of" true, it doesn't change the gist of what I've said: If it's borrowed, get permission if you can, and give credit, and/or link back. And, I do not allow photos of celebrities, logos, or anime/manga/comic/book characters. And, if in doubt, ask a moderator -- it's why they exist. I won't get anymore specific than I have with the rules because that would sap the fun right out of this contest.
