===== Update Log =====
Update: 27 May 2018

  • Media panel now allows for extra parameters, except very few.
  • No longer need for base video, empty base video can be used

========= PROCEDURE =========

So, how do you obtain the playlist url you need to put into the GAIA??

First, you need to have a valid playlist in Youtube. You need to create a Youtube account before creating one or you can also borrowing someone else playlist. Once you find a playlist, you need the url of the playlist page on Youtube. This is referenced from the latest Youtube website.

It would be something like this:
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=<playlist_ID_here>

So example you visited a playlist page, look at your browser address bar, example of mine:
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLinxbYwtfyBgLvwwTws_1oPvsFu_GWbrH

Copy the playlist ID then replace it to below link template:
https://www.youtube.com/v/?autoplay=1&list=Playlist_ID_here

Example of mine becomes:
https://www.youtube.com/v/?autoplay=1&list=PLinxbYwtfyBgLvwwTws_1oPvsFu_GWbrH

You can alter autoplay=1 to autoplay=0 to disable autoplay. You can also add &loop=1 if you want it to loop. Note you can not preview directly the playlist by visiting the link, it will result blank page or "page not found" error. You have to put the link into media section of your profile page then check whether it works or not in profile live view.

========= FAQ =========
Q: Autoplay not working on browsers?
A: Chrome Version 66 Update Blocks Autoplay Media

Most browsers now also has disabled autoplay by default. Each browsers have their own settings to enable autoplay. Just search in internet with keyword "Enable Autoplay in -Insert browser name here-" should results plenty of valid answers.

Q: What is the use of &index property??
A: It usage is to decide the tracks number you want to play first. The video tracks number always N - 1 so for example &index=3 means play the 4th video in the playlist at the start. It also can be used to incite the previous-forward button for playlist not using autoplay.

Q: Why use sub-country Youtube url?
A. You should check first whether the playlist ID and the url you used is correct. If you have trouble with country limitation, you can try to detour the link using other Youtube country domains. Currently known working domains are listed below. Bolded domains are recommended since those will return English as default player language.

hk.youtube.com
ca.youtube.com
jp.youtube.com / www.youtube.co.jp
ru.youtube.com
br.youtube.com
au.youtube.com
www.youtube.sg
uk.youtube.com
www.youtube.co.id

There are many other domains. Not all country supported though, so you can try change the country code to another if it is not working. Be warned changing the domain also may affect video availability.

=====Previous updates=====

20 Feb 2018

Youtube no longer allows videoseries for Youtube playlist with &list=... as embed. However manual playlist using &playlist=... still can use videoseries however.

Instead, users must put a certain base video for the &list= playlist to start, a simple one second video can be used for this. Example: ]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-J1u3OF0Lo

Update: 18th January 2018
The good news, media panel now allowed to use https://

The guide has been updated to follow the change. Removed Youtube flash faq since it is no longer relevant.

Update June 2017
Updated temporary link for Flash embed.
No longer works. Flash entirely dropped

Update: March => April 2017
Youtube dropped flash API, officially ending some parameters:
&nohtml5, &shuffle, &theme, &color and some more.

Archived FAQ
Q: What is the use of &nohtml5 property??
A: It is used to force the player to use flash version on Firefox. Note this may cause conversion conflict in Firefox browser for mobile devices (Android/iOS) thus causing disrupting lag or responsiveness delay. Default is 0, set to &nohtml5=1 to enable this force-feature.

Q: How to shuffle the playlist?
A: Shuffling requires an url redirection workaround due to error in Firefox. Add &shuffle=1&loop=1&index=999 into the url parameters. Example two url redirections you can use are Gaiatools and hyperurl.
&index=0 to always play the first video in actual playlist before going random. &index=999 to make the first video goes random as well.

Update: Sept 2016
Added Youtube actual shuffle function.

Update: August 2016
Youtube updated the flash embed in their site. Follow the linked thread for more info about the fix
http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/profile-discussion/tutorial-fixing-building-workaround-for-youtube-08-2016/t.100619359/
. This update is reverted by Youtube few days later. See previous update for reference.

Update: June 2016
Using youtube.com/p/ no longer supported, thread info updated with proper way.

Update: April 2015
&version=2 no longer works with playlist.

Update: 28th August 2014
Added:
- usage of &list parameter as alternative method
- alternative base URL
Removed: List of parameters, it is already covered in extended FAQ

Update: 27th February 2014
1. Chrome bug
The browser can not play AS2 player or youtube.googleapis URL. Currently only AS3 player and using Youtube official link is working, does not matter whether you are using v1 Classic or v2 Current
Fixed after update, might happens again though.

Update: 31 July 2013
1. Blank screen bug for AS3 players:
Apparently there is no known reason for what causing this bug. To fix this is by adding &version=2
Fixed

2. AS2 player now accessible via main Youtube site using direct url and &version=2

Update: 10th April 2013
1. Chrome browser bug
As things concerned. Chrome somehow messed up media panels url in GAIA. The browser is parsing out the URL parameters used in profile. So it is recommended if you are planning to use Youtube on GAIA, it is best to just standard, no custom url parameters, no autoplay=1, no showinfo, no version=#, etc like that. It is not always happens though.
Fixed in later update. Gaia system will still remove parameters other than autoplay unless country domain used.

2. version=2 playlist support is undecided

Some playlist I tested somehow can not be used on AS2 player anymore (version=2) and the player will display "There are some errors" sign . I still do not know the reason though.

See recent update

3. Opera can not show the player if it is too small?
The title says it all.
Fixed on latest opera

Update: 21 May 2013
Fixed some informations:
- If you are using AS2 versions player, your playlist might not able to display all videos contained in the playlist, read more the thread reply conversations on first page about this.

You can also add &version=2 at the butt end of the playlist url to fix the "player is to small" problem. smile
I have said this fix is for AS3 player. By adding &version=2, you are switching the player to AS2 which out of my thread content topic. One certain reason why I would like to keep AS3 players is the number of video compatibility. If you only build small playlist below 50 videos. You will see everything just fine. But once your playlist videos goes above it, you might notice sudden missing / decrease of the number of videos in your playlist.

Take example of this playlist:
http://www.youtube.com/p/A9AB30026D0A213F?version=2

How many videos displayed in the embeded AS2 playlist?? If you could get above 100, you are fine. The actual videos in that playlist are 150 videos, no more no less, excluding all removed videos (if including removed videos, it would goes above 200)
proof of the reality:
http://www.youtube.com/p/A9AB30026D0A213F?version=3

More example:
http://www.youtube.com/p/05316E3B3A9C26A0?version=2
vs
http://www.youtube.com/p/05316E3B3A9C26A0?version=3

There are more reasons like surviving problem and threats of missing player suddenly (see the warning stated here: https://developers.google.com/youtube/flash_api_reference_as2)

You are free to choose between AS2 (&version=2) or AS3 player version. It is your choice.

EDIT: As the matter per April 2015 last testing, playlist feature is deprecated from AS2. The player will load playlist interface but can not feed the playlist data = empty player.

;;;;;;;; in v2 Current profile
Go to your profile page > Edit My Profile Layout > click "Content" and add a media panel > Click the "Edit" button on the newly created media panel and insert link. Save all the changes and exit the profile editor + return to your profile page in normal view by clicking "View" to test whether your media panel works or not. Only one playlist / media / video per media panel allowed.
;;;;;;;; v1 Classic profile
Go to profile Options ( http://www.gaiaonline.com/account/profileprefs/ ) and paste the obtained valid URL into the SWF link box (located at right bottom of the option page) , save all changes afterwards and check ur profile.

Small update as 10th April 2013.

I'll look into this "Chrome bug" to see what's going on when I get home. Gaia is more commonly known for removing parameters than a browser. The browser only renders what the server sends to it.

Hmm that is the strange point. The chrome bug does not always happens to all Youtube panels in GAIA. When it happens, it also sometimes remove all the custom parameters, changed it into an ampersand per parameter, OR it only changes part of parameter which could either makes other part ruined or just working as it.

Sounds like Gaia, not Chrome. Gaia has server-side scripting for parsing YouTube videos. For instance, if you add the first parameter with a & it'll automatically convert it to a ?. It may be doing the vise versa. As I've said in the past, Gaia parses out any and all parameters not related to autoplay.

All the parameters for each video I put in the URL are no longer there. All of the URLs were also converted to and HTTPS instead of the HTTP I used. Which means if you edit the video URL, you need to remove the "S" or Gaia will complain and say it needs to be an HTTP URL (da'fawk?). I edited the profile in both Chrome and Firefox receiving the same results, so it is 100% Gaia's parsing and not the browser.

Hmmm then would you take a look the one on my page?? I am just reverted it to problematic URL. My Firefox reads the autoplay just fine. But my Chrome somehow load only the initial before makes it disappear.

----
I also tested it my page on IE10 and Opera (yesterday update), no problem on both browsers. Never tried Safari though. Only Chrome being troublesome, got any idea?

However, somehow my mule page runs fine in all browsers including Chrome

Firefox does not like the URL.
http://www.youtube.com/p/inxbYwtfyBgLvwwTws_1oPvsFu_GWbrH&

However, in Chrome
http://www.youtube.com/p/inxbYwtfyBgLvwwTws_1oPvsFu_GWbrH?autoplay=1

Watching the console log
[10:48:19.447] GET http://www.youtube.com/p/inxbYwtfyBgLvwwTws_1oPvsFu_GWbrH?autoplay=1 [HTTP/1.1 200 OK 114ms]
So it's there, but for some reason the ? is being converted to an ampersand and droping autoplay=1, Chrome is not doing that.

That may be the browser, I am not sure. The request is all there, so it shouldn't be the browser. You say it happens in Chrome, but not Firefox, correct? In my case it doesn't load in FF, but works in Chrome just fine.
I can't really say for sure.

Actually I may have figured out why that happened, it's Gaia's fault (at least what I experienced).
http://www.youtube.com/p/inxbYwtfyBgLvwwTws_1oPvsFu_GWbrH?autoplay=0&index=0&showinfo=1&theme=light

It helps if you stop changing parameters.
Just messed with everything I was looking at...

ninja my bad there. Anyway, I reactivated the autoplay=1 and seems the bug coming back on Chrome browser. Should I try to move the autoplay parameter order?
