I recommend only using .cur or .ani files though. Because those are the standards. Currently only Firefox and Chrome support PNGs, GIFs, and other image formats.

YEAH, RECOMMENED THE FORMAT THAT ONLY IE SUPPORTS, OVER THE ONES THAT ARE SUPPORTED BY ALL GOOD BROWSERS.

Oh, side note: Opera doesn't support URI's on cursors at all so if we're being all cross platformy, don't ever use custom cursors.

Lol, IE does suck. But for a good UI it should be compliant with as many of the major browsers as much as possible, instead of leaving it up to the UA.

The 'standard' .cur is supported by four of the five major browsers (except Opera as mentioned above, but who cares about Opera). lol
