Edge getting help to leave the arena Edge in the Ring, getting seen by doctors Surgery Footage Quote: WWE Unified Tag Team Champion Edge suffered a tear to his Achilles tendon last Friday, July 3, during a WWE live event in San Diego with Jeff Hardy. The champion underwent surgery Tuesday morning for the torn Achilles tendon in his left ankle.(Surgery photos) The surgery was performed by Dr. James Andrews at Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham, Ala. Dr. Andrews has previously performed surgeries on WWE Superstars Batista, Triple H, John Cena, Rey Mysterio and many others. Andrews also consulted on NFL quarterback Tom Brady after his third knee surgery and most recently worked with Brett Favre for his possible return to the NFL. Injury details Almost immediately after the bout started, Edge was in his corner when Hardy charged toward him. After attempting to leapfrog Hardy, Edge crumbled to the canvas. Hardy was backed off by the referee, who checked repeatedly with Edge before summoning WWE doctors and athletic trainers and instructing ring announcer Justin Roberts that because Edge could not continue, Jeff Hardy was the winner of the match via forfeit. WWE referees, athletic trainers and doctors then helped Edge to the back as he could bear no weight on his left ankle. Champion’s future? WWE.com will attempt to have comments from both Dr. Andrews and Edge, including a timeline for Edge's return to the ring. WWE.com will also investigate how this injury will affect the status of the Unified Tag Team Titles, as well as Edge & Chris Jericho's scheduled match with Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase at Night of Champions. Quote: Edge, who as many know recently tore his Achilles tendon, had surgery a couple of days ago in Birmingham, Alabama under the watchful eye of the best orthopedic surgeon in the world, Dr. Jim Andrews. Dr. Andrews has operated on literally a who's who in WWE and WCW over the years and even performed surgery last month on future NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre's passing arm. I communicated with Edge from the hospital and from his home in Florida and, despite the extremely untimely setback, the "Rated R Superstar" was in as good a spirits as one could ask considering the situation. Edge knows what it's like to be sidelined for an extended length of time by a serious injury therefore he knows what it will take to get back into the game. While in Birmingham, I suggested to Edge that he have someone get him some Dreamland BBQ but he refrained because he "was Jonseing" for some of our Chipolte Ketchup of which will be taken care of next week. I think we have Edge "hooked" on the best ketchup in the world. Dr. Andrews felt that Edge's surgery was a success but stopped short of providing Edge with an exact return date. Mother Nature will have a say in determining that date but one can assume that it will be no less than 6 months and likely a little longer. I do think that Edge can be back for Wrestlemania if his rehab and physical therapy goes well and he doesn't suffer any unforeseen setbacks. If Edge can successfully and effectively return to WM26 in Arizona it should be a significant boost to the show. RAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I KNEW IT! -hopes he will return face- Bad times.. emo I was looking forward to the Rated-Y2J era |
