Welcome to Gaia! ::

I remember seeing Beyond the Mat and Bret Hart Wrestling With Shadows, but was wondering if there's newer documentaries that are pretty good? I see a bunch of trailers on youtube for some(The Circus, Card Subject To Change, etc) but they don't seem to be released.

I saw an absolutely depressing and disturbing new documentary about the life of Scott Hall that aired last year, left me pretty depressed seeing it

Also from last year, a really intense and enthralling hulk hogan documentary

I also loved the 2004 WWE documentaries "The Monday Night Wars" and especially
"The Rise And Fall of ECW"

The Chris Jericho story from his DVD set was pretty good. He told it really well.

I agree Jericho's was really well done.

Ricky Steamboat's was really good too...
actually despite what I may think of their weekly programing at the moment, I will say that pretty much most of their dvd sets have been really well done recently...guess having access to all the old AWA, WCW ECW, etc footage pays off well.

Oh I agree. Other than the censoring of the verbal usage of "WWF" and the attitude era scratch logo(which ruins some matches...Now that world wildlife fund changed their name, they shouldnt force WWE to censor the past), these dvds are insanely good. No stone left unturn.
They don't censor what a personality can say or not say about the business or people.
When Vince lifted the iron curtain of secrecy, all the sudden you could have Mark Calloway as himself being interviewed talking about collaborating on movesets with Foley right before hell in a cell.

The endless footage of WCW/NWA, WCCW, AWA, Crocket, etc is insane. As much as I complain about the death of competition(WCW died before the buyout I feel, maybe 2000ish)
it allowed for this endless amount of archival footage to be released.

I didn't even know there was a Steamboat set! I really want to see the Guerrero one, and that definitive new Stone Cold set. I also wish they'd release WWE On Demand "Legends of Wrestling", as those are just amazing historical discussions.

I actually kind of liked the Ultimate Warrior one, even though the entire thing was about what a sucky person it is, I just found it fascinating.

Many WWE-produced when not being giant trolls, (I.E. 50 greatest superstars of all time for 1 ) ( I mEAN C'MON HOW IS jOHN cENA NOT nUMBER #1 ) can be enthralling. Like, Eddie Guerrero's, Chris Benoit, Jeff Hardy's was a real good one. Also HHH's & most recently SCSA documentary is awesome.

Ricky Steamboat: The Live Story of the Dragon DVD

Its really well done...It has a ton of great matches (2 against Ric Flair including one from 83 or 84 where it went an hour to a time limit draw...and was totally awesome) as well as a 2of3 fall match between the two. Also has (like most of the collections) the Wrestlemania III match against Savage. Some other good spots on it are the Hall of Fame induction ceremony (full induction) and his Backlash 2009 match with Jericho.
I like this Doc. starring RVD about what happens if you don't make it to Pro Wrestling/can't afford to go to training school called The Backyard.

Hardy Boyz Twist of Fate is good as well, then again I'm a fan.

Errr...trying to name some not on here.

Steve Austin's latest dvd was pretty damn good better than his other dvd's
Sad that noone's mentioned this one...

"I Like to Hurt People"

Raw, sleazy stuff from the original madman of pro wrestling, Ed "The Shiek" Farhat. It's a bit corny at times, and it's showing it's dated nature, but it's still extremely fascinating.

The Scott Hall story was pretty insane. It's sad to see Scott the way he is now. I'm glad that he's still in one piece.

I know recovery will take a while, but I hope he makes his comeback as a Hall of Famer.
Also essential wrestling fan viewing should be "I'm From Hollywood", which documents one of, if not THE greatest plotline in wrestling history; the feud between Andy Kaufman and Jerry Lawler. A rivalry that was so intense and so incredibly kayfabe that it carried over into the mainstream media and had everyone guessing till the very end. It cemented Lawler's place in the wrestling world, and IMO, established Andy Kaufman as the greatest heel in the business despite being a non-wrestler himself.
