INTRODUCTION.


Welcome to our B/C Interest Thread!

This is a Frog Prince B/C thread with a bit of a twist. No stereotype picture-perfect men here (or fluffy bunny creatures with wings for that matter)! It is literate RP-required unfortunately so if you can't RP but want to join in, you'd better start learning! We hope you stick around for the long haul because we have a bunch of surprises in store, from the unveiling of the shop's name, to the kick-a** banners, the town map, and plenty of gorgeous artwork!

STORY.


By the year 3100, Nuclear Winter has come, leaving the human population to deal with the lasting effects on the ecosystem. Many animals have become endangered, and some extinct thanks to the actions of the homo-sapiens. A young professor by the name of Maximilian Y had been studying the results of certain species dying off, and found that amphibians played a delicate role in maintaining the ecosystem. Because of the harsh and stressful conditions of the winter, most amphibians could not survive, frogs being one of the only groups left, and were quickly reaching their extermination. Maximilian then determinedly sought a way to save these animals, as well as the ecosystem. Gathering as many different breeds of frogs and toads, Prof. Y began to experiment with human genes in attempt to enhance the amphibians enough to survive colder climates.

At first, the genetic serum worked, allowing the frogs to be stronger and adept to the cold, or at least until they overpopulated. Eventually they began to die out again, and Prof. Y was left with a sense of discouragement. Diligently, he revised the formula used to enhance the frogs, certain now that it would last long enough to keep the species alive. Much to Prof. Y’s surprise, this new formula managed to not only further strengthen the frogs, but cause a rapid transformation to occur within them, turning the amphibians into human-like hybrids capable of several tasks that some humans could not perform. The formula was still not flawless, as the genes used to protect the creatures from the harsh weather only attached to Y chromosomes, thus bringing a steady end to the females. When reproduced by cloning, however, enough chromosomes were left over by the females causing some of the males to possess certain feminine characteristics to develop and adapt with as well as the regular males.

Prof. Y’s original experiment had become somewhat of a mutated success, and it wasn’t long before the scientist realized how exploitable his workers were. The humanoid amphibians were excellent at all sorts of chores and tasks, ranging from domestic talents, such as cleaning and cooking, to outdoor tasks, like lifting and constructing, and Maximilian could see the workers becoming an excellent source of manual labor… and money. It didn’t take long for wealthy, fat-pocketed connoisseurs to show a growing interest in his “frog prince” project…

World.
The role-play will be set during an era very similar to during the times of the Cold War. The country, which has been long occupied by Eastern Europe, is former England and the story is set in the little village of Saltaire, with a population of less than a thousand heads, surrounding a lake and mostly hidden from the rest of the country by a large mountain range. There is one main road that passes over the lake and out of the village but since there are a few supermarkets and a hospital inside the village itself, seldom anyone comes nor goes, except for the Military Officials who occasionally visit the small town to check for stowaways and signs of suspicious behavior.

Most of the town residents come from a mixture of communist and socialist countries who have immigrated from the East, though sometimes the town receives capitalist guests, most of which have been discovered (due to the numerous security measures installed throughout all homes and streets in Saltaire) and promptly beheaded. So far, these (to the right) are the only countries that have been allowed free passage through former England's borders--all others are perpetrators that must be reported to the authorities immediately for fear of treason charges.

Due to the ruling style of the country, the honest, hardworking citizens of former Britain had to fight for their meals, earning only a few thousand gold pieces a day (which, due to overwhelming inflation during The War, had become quite a small deal of money, barely enough to buy two loaves of bread). Saltaire however had been renown for the cracks within their population, with a large chunk of citizens former Military employees during the war and thus had been bestowed with large amounts of gold, most of which had been since hidden and stowed away, below floorboards, buried under gardens, frozen into outer walls of the house. This was just as well because the Military, as soon as the war was over, declared all surplus funds to be returned so that it could be used to restore and rebuild the former glory of the Motherland. What an Orwellian regime..

NPC'S.



Professor Y.
Professor Maximilian Y (last name concealed to protect identity) started off as a committed scientist during The War, researching ways to immunize soldiers from hybrid diseases unleashed by the enemy, devastating effects caused by nuclear warfare. Within a few short months, nuclear winter had wiped out most of the earth's resources and soldiers could no longer keep up arms, with both sides of The War vanishing to their respected countries and attempting to stabilize the ecosystems in their countries before they launch another attack in a last bid to wipe out their opponents.
Maximilian was one of the leading scientists in the hospitals so the commanders placed him in charge of his own personal underground laboratory, in charge of preventing the decline of amphibian species, a role which he is bitter about to this day.



Madame X.
Madame Adelle X (last name also concealed to protect identity) worked in the scientific field as well during the lingering days of The War in genetic studies primarily for researching ways to aide and speed the healing process of soldiers by any technological means neccesary. Her work was cut drasticaly short by an alleged affair that got her kicked out of the workforce. With her remaining money and funds, Adelle started up her own business in functional fashion for mostly the noble public. Before her erradication from the science workforce, Adelle had began a side project of developing a material called Madexo that would heal burn victims through constant moisture to the wound yet block the growth of dangerous fungi at the same time due to such conditions- this project became a crucial part Maximilian's plan and the ensured the survival of the Princes.

STAGES.


The first two stages will be base templates, but the last three (including the rare last stage) will be custom-drawn to fit your character's appearance/personality.
The stages below are drawn by Djubre, King, Djubre and King. All lineart, however, will end up being Dju's work.


Egg.

You receive a little egg enclosed in some sort of firm plastic embedded on a brooch. If you look closely enough, you can see your little Prince growing inside it.

Tadpole.

Your egg begins to develop and the shell is cracked open to retrieve a little tadpole--he continues his growth inside a jar.

Metamorphosis.

Your prince has began his transmogrification into a human-like creature, showing very distinctive human traits but keeping several amphibious features, including a small tail to help it swim with his more delicate limbs.

Humanoid.

By now your prince's metamorphosis has nearly reached an end, leaving the creature with a much more human-like structure and the ability to move around outside water for longer periods. Amphibious traits left over include webbed feet and fingers, longer legs, slick skin and colorings of the prince's original breed.

GROWTH REQUIREMENTS.


Stand by for some rehashing. We will be modifying these, but this is basically what you need to advance your Prince.

Stage One to Two:

• Set up journal
  
• Finished introductory RP with Maximilian and/or Adelle
  
• At least one solo journal entry post purchase to display levels of pet/human interaction
  
• Time requirement: 2 weeks for growing

Stage Two to Three:

• RP with Max and/or Adelle so they can release your pet from the pin
  
• At least 3 journal entries post hatching that include thoughts from the owner and/or any interaction roleplays with other owners
  
• Time requirement: 2 weeks for growing

Stage Three to Four:

• RP with Max for an initial healthcheck
  
• RP with Adelle for the creation of your pet's wardrobe
  
• Naming of your pet
  
• Involvement in at least 1 metaplot
  
• At least 15 journal entries including interactions with other owners and pets, owner's thoughts, and owner/pet interaction
  
• Time requirement: 8 weeks for growing

Stage Four to Five:

• RP with Max for a healthcheck

BREEDING.


When at x stage, Princes can breed through 'cloning' methods. Due to [some glitch not quite figured out yet], all Princes are male. Considering their humanoid physiology, however, scientists in the field decided it would be unfair to disallow the mating of homosexual hybrids and developed a process that allows the offspring to carry both male's characteristics. Through the cloning process.

The SCNT (somatic cell nuclear transfer) process starts with an unfertilized human egg, or oocyte. We remove the oocyte's nucleus, which contains the egg's genes, or hereditary "instructions." What remains after removal of the nucleus is a cell that contains nutrients essential for embryo development and other cellular machinery waiting for a new set of instructions. A somatic cell from the animal to be cloned--or in some cases, just the cell's nucleus--is cultured in an incubator and then injected under the coating of the unfertilized oocyte. (Somatic cells are any cells of the body except sperm and eggs.) Stimulated by a mild electrical pulse, the oocyte cytoplasm (everything in the cell but the nucleus) and the genetic material from the donated somatic cell combine. If fusion is successful, the resulting fused cell divides just as if it were a fertilized egg and produces an embryo. The embryo is placed in an incubator with similar environmental conditions to where ordinary frogspawn is laid and, if development proceeds normally, an offspring is born.

To put it simply, we remove the DNA information from an egg and insert the information from one of the males into the egg while allowing the other male's sperm to fertilise the egg. Male pregnancies in themselves are ridiculous and physically impossible, therefore, the eggs will be raised inside incubation tanks.

DEVELOPMENTS.


King has recently thought of a different type of first stage rather than the boring routine vials you see in lots of other shops. Instead of vials, the owners would use pins to carry the eggs about with them.

The owner is required to wear it close to their chest because the tadpole inside the egg will begin to recognize it's owner's heartbeat and thus always remain loyal to the owner, even as a full-grown adult, acknowledging the human as their parent. Or something.

PRE-OPENING EVENTS.


There will be two events before the opening, one of them a Christmas event and the other one a post-Halloween event, just because we're having too much fun with Halloween to let it go just yet. Stick around for more details!
Both events will end on Christmas Day.

Adelle has appealed to Maximilian's usually frosty demeanor and brought him some much-needed holiday cheer! As a result, in the spirit of things, Prof. Y has selected this breed in particular for the next Prince-to-be.
He's very excited to see who will bribe and beg their way into gaining this special Christmas edition. The biophysicist can already smell the gold...

This contest will be free to enter and the winner will receive the special red-headed Christmas edition, a prince of their own, the first prince given out to the public and we all know that means earlier evolutions and greater bonds with the staff pets too, in case any of you were eyeing them!

Roleplay Foreword.


Maximilian, for the first time in more than a decade, has opened the gates of his home to the open public (or at least as open as it had been since his 18th birthday party). Normally quite stingy with his money, the scientist had reached deep into his inheritance money from his late mother and father to arrange for food, decorations, and a general repair job on the interior of the laboratory.

From the outside, the building looked like any other pollution-producing factory, but on the inside, there were possibly hundreds of different rooms and hallways that made the laboratory seem like some sort of grandois mansion, with the majority of the experiments conducted underground in the hidden basement levels. These areas were strictly closed to the public, with only Adelle and Max possessing the correct prints to allow them access to the laboratories, where the bulk of research and progress on the Frog Prince project was made. Even Tibalt and Brodi, their own little princes, required their permission to enter these rooms--there was no knowing what potential harm the pets could cause if they made their way downstairs and broke something.

On the day of the banquet, Maximilan and Adelle waited at the head of the grand hall, overlooking the tables and chairs set up around the edges of the circular room, fine music travelling through the air, the collective heat from candles on tables cancelling out the bitter cold that was blowing in through the open doors just beyond the corridor leading to the hall; the main entry of the building and where the first pet's owner would walk through today.

You are one of the small percentage of Saltaire's population that have recieved a letter from one of the city's best known scientists, Maximilian Y. He and his partner, Adelle X, have invited you to a grand Christmas banquet in his mansion where they assure you that only the highest class of the residents in Saltaire have been invited, to be served the finest food and wine, and at the end of the night, one of the guests will be promised an extra surprise, "la cerise sur le gâteau". Although there leaves no mention on the card what that prize will be, you already have a good idea you know what it is--rumors floating around the village suggest that Maximilian is finally releasing prototypes of his Princely project to the open public, and this makes you all the more eager to attend.

Placing your chequebook, wallet, purse, Gold Card on the desk, you scurry off to your bedroom to prepare for the banquet, filled with hopes of being the first to own a prince of your own.

Prompt One:

You've spent a whole day of preparation, you look your best and you're hungry for more than just a meal, and you've finally arrived at the banquet. Guests are leaking into the hall and Maximilian is the first to greet you; He shakes you warmly by the hand, and it strikes you that you may never get this sort of opportunity to talk face-to-face with the owner of the labs for the entire duration of the party! You manage to lead him off to the side and charm him into talking a while, what do you two talk about and how are you ever going to convince him to give you a prince?

Prompt Two:

You're looking very dapper in that outfit, you stride into the grand hall full of confidence and certainty that you will be the one taking home the first prince when you notice the hostess of the event, Adelle, standing off to the side and watching her partner mingle and flirt with the guests. You decide to take this opportunity to approach her--she looks bored enough and could stand some interesting conversation. Perhaps that may even win her over, she is after all, partly responsible for tonight's decision. What do you two talk about and how do you gain her favour?

Prompt Three:

You arrive at the party, walking in through the doors and your eyes fall upon the hosts--they look busy enough with the other guests and you don't particularly want to intrude. Instead, you walk around the edges of the hall and slip into a empty corridor, curiousity driving you on further. You notice a door is ajar, a faint glow issuing from the small crack, and as you move to investigate it, you see that the light leads down a set of stairs, ones that you can't help but follow. When you've reached the bottom of quite a long descent, you marvel at your surroundings, staring at the array of frog specimens pinned to the wall and the interesting scientific instruments, most of which you don't even know the name of. Unfortunately, someone has followed you and they stand right behind you, one of the owners of their lab, raising an eyebrow at you and asking you what you're doing down here. You have to evade their scorn somehow, and perhaps your efforts will be the thing that allows you stand out from the crowd and walk out of the laboratories the new owner of a Prince; so what do you say to them?

Hints that will help you:

• Remember to include details of the prompt within your role-play as well as the response, so we can get a good initial idea of your character's personality, mental processes, etc.
  
• Make sure your character comes from one of the allied countries, check "world" to see what sort of nationality you could have for your character. (No Americans, please)
  
• Some sort of creative and yet somewhat pointlessly excessive inventions like Percy the Passing Bus Sign (see Max's first role-play post for more details) will make the world feel more real and funner for us to read; feel free to go all out in the creativity department! Just no floating cars or we kill you.
  
• Small references from the staff role-plays like little details that make your character fit into Saltaire better will be loved.
  
• Although it's not compulsory and you could probably write a good post without it anyways, reading the staff role-plays in Djubre's journal is recommended--for fun and education! Work for your Prince, dammit!
  
• Five seconds of spell-checking using MS Word costs you nothing, so do it.
  
• In particular, don't let us catch you misspelling names of the staff and especially the name of the village the RP is hosted in, that's just lazy.
  
• No word limit here but oh god please don't write a ridiculous amount. King may look forwards to reading twenty-page-long entries but Dju is also judging and he has a short attention span that you don't wanna trigger with a three-paragraph description of what your character is wearing.

This contest will be for a NPP (non playable Prince), in the form of a baby, that stage between stage 2 and 3 which none of the regular owners will recieve. These particular pets will not evolve and do not earn a spot on the owners wall, but if owners go further to win any auctions or custom slots or bribes or anything like that, they can select to allow the NPP the opportunity to grow (to the next stages) and become RPable (and compulsorily RPable, mind you) instead of asking for a new creation.
