of an empty universe. She was lonely for there were no other Beings like herself-- no Gods to kiss
and love, no other Goddesses to laugh scissor with or even hate. There wasn't even anything or one
to rule and to each of these things, she grew sadder still. 'Why me' She whispered, tears streaking
her strikingly beautiful face. (Had she a mirror, she might have become quite vain.) Time began and
some eons and eons passed, until the millionth tear came forth from her left eye.
This millionth tear clear and glowed fervor so certain and pure that THE GODDESS CAISSA gasped; it
floated in midair and spun like a child's top, before suddenly splitting into two parts: one man, and
one woman.
Her first creations and new avatars, as they were: Novotny the White and Grimshaw the Black.
She blew her nose in joy.

Under her watchful rainbow sparkle eye, Novotny forged the stars, the planets, and the galaxies and
Grimshaw purged the castoffs and wastes.
Her favourites would become our Sun, our Moon, and our World for these were the prettiest of her
creations' creations.
The beings that populated the World eventually split into the six nations we know even today.

- Peace settled easily on our World and soon enough THE GODDESS CAISSA realized that things
had become as they were so many eons ago. In other words, she had grown weary of these quiet
and predictable people who had traded passion for wealth and glory for love.
But, just as she made to ignite the World in a cleansing flame, flood the lands with sea water, and
render the flora and fauna into volcanic dust she stopped. An Idea formed in her Goddess mind,
which lead her to summon Novotny and Grimshaw from their creative and destructive work. She told
them to tell the nations this Idea (which, as her faithful servants, echoed completely):
"To the Nations of the World, I bestow on thee each the power to summon my First Creations. This
summoning will entail a Battle most glorious; the more glorious said Battle, the Greater my subsequent
blessings. I seek the finest fighters to fight in my honour, fighters that rival even my First Creations.
My dear People. Do not disappoint me."
THE GODDESS CAISSA reclined on her celestial throne, as the sounds of clanking armor and sharp-
ening swords replaced the peace and the quiet.

TL;DR:
- Caissa, the goddess of chess, rules over the world! She has two avatars that carry out her will-- Grimshaw the Black
and Novotny the White. Nations can summon Grimshaw and Novotny to fight; the more glorious the battle-- in other
words, the more things you kill/destroy the greater the subsequent blessing from Caissa! Caissa tends to favour the
nations with the fiercest fighters. As such, her blessings not only benefit the warrior, but his or her country.
Kings and queens constantly send their finest fighters forth to fight Grimshaw and Novotny. There is a general rivalry
between nations; each nation wants the best blessing!
In order to sweeten the deal further, kings and queens offer FAME AND RICHES to bring GLORY to their nation.

- Latrone is the equivalent of our world's Western Europe during its Golden Age-- or, if you wanted to
be clever about it, Copper, Iron, and Steel Age. Latronians, after all, pride themselves in their
blacksmiths; in mentioning any sword or bit of armor, the saying goes "If it's not Latronian, it's
totally not worth it."
The land itself is rocky, as one might expect, with spiraling mountains and deeper green and fertile
valleys. Wildflowers and roses-- the other Latronian pride-- are commonplace, especially pinned on
men's chests and in the girls' hairs. There are some pastoral areas especially as you travel toward
the heart of the country. At the center of the prettiest, most spring-like valley, in a white marble
castle with 20- some rose gardens resides The Queen and her daughter The Infanta King...

- Sandstorms and blistering heat is commonplace for denizens of Shatran, however, during the winter,
the temperature can drop to below freezing at night. Various oases spread out throughout the
country, and is home to many nobles that live in elaborate mini-palaces who wish to show off their status.
Due to the dry weather and sand dunes, it is difficult for travelers to roam very far from civilization.
There are no roads connecting cities and oases, however there are many navigators who
know the deserts like the back of their hands. In addition, many artisans and merchants
roam from place to place, trying to sell their goods for "bargains".
The king is a hardworking and neurotic prude, but is a very responsible man when it comes to
his country. His queen was picked up at a brothel, and makes the king's life...spicy...

- At the Northern border of Latrone and the South-eastern border of Sjakk lies the country of Khmaty.
Khmaty is something like the middle child-- not quite as spring-like as its younger brother Latrone,
nor quite as frosty as its older sister Sjakk. In other words, one might say it's a cracked mirror
version of our Eastern Europe and Russia.
If one were to purvey the Khmatish landscape, one would expect to see either too-thick, black-wooded
forests or barren tundras. They say that only the wooliest, most ferocious animals are able to
survive the bitter emptiness of Khmaty and this is why the Khmatish people so pride themselves in
their fauna.
Not much is known about the King and Queen of this country, just that both the man and his lady are
both savage and lovely people... If such a thing were possible.

- Although physically near other countries, to outsiders, Maqala is the home of barbarians and beasts
of the unknown. Those who attempt to travel here seem to suddenly vanish, making this
country even more enticing to thirsty adventurers who seek treasure.
Exotic animals live within the massive forests with tall trees, and small tribes that live in
yurts, huts or mud houses overlook the areas. Many warriors wear the fur of slayed
animals for "additional strength" during battle.
As a whole, the Maqalans pride in their extensive knowledge of herbalism and voodoo, and each
tribe has their own specialties. A single idea connects them: the desire to keep their land
blessed. In order to appease their gods, denizens of Maqala must perform rituals that require
...certain sacrifices.
Their king is a ritual addict, as he constantly believes that Maqala will see its end, while
the queen is more concerned with gathering power from animal spirits.

- For some time Xiyan and the almond-eyed Xiyanese people have stood alone in their part
of the world. This was for two reasons; for one, the Empire of Xiyan happens to be separated from the
other countries by one ocean and two mountainpasses. Thus, the only way one may find Xiyan is by boat,
or if Xiyan chooses to find you.
As to the latter part of the statement... This leads to the second reason for Xiyan's isolation. The
Xiyanese people tend to be very fiercely resistant of influence from other nations and ferociously prideful
of their culture. From its food to its lifestyle to its nation's pride SILK, Xiyan prefers to do things the Xiyanese way.
The weather is wet. The summers are humid and cue the onset of monsoons. The winters are mild; the springs
and falls pleasant.
The Xiyanese King and Queen-- Emperor and Empress, as they would insist-- are highly... eccentric... yet
highly dangerous people. There are even those who claim that they had murdered Gods to come into their
position... Though no soul has ever dared to investigate...

- With constant harsh winds and snow, the Sjakks live in igloos
and sometimes seek shelter underground, digging tunnels for safety during the roughest of
times. Blizzards are typically year-round, but during the summer there is only light snow or rain.
Agriculture is impossible to tend to on this ice land, as the sun rarely shows itself,
so denizens rely heavily on fish for food, making hunters and fishermen prominent leaders in
villages. The people of Sjakk often don't trust outsiders, but they tend to share their belongings
with others in their own communities. There are also nomadic villages that tend to search for
goods while living in underground accommodations.

- In Solus Rex, chess is everything and nothing hurts. We have two types of characters, the regular pieces and our cute-as-buttons pieces: the blunders. Regular chess pieces are most common, but blunders could be available sometimes as well!
Character growth is highly dependent on chess games and battle summaries. There are very minimal roleplay requirements, if any at all. This is still being discussed within our staff and fine details are still being worked out, but the below is a rough sketch of what will happen.
- Players are expected to engage in formal games against US. YES. US. These games are played here. Games last around a month or so, with us making 5 moves every week.
Every 10 moves, players are expected to write a brief follow up regarding what happened in battle that day!
While you are engaging in a game, you MUST make a move every 21 days (or else the game will reset itself!). If you don't make a move every 21 days (without prior notice to staff), this will result in a warning. Remember three total warnings result in your pawn turning into a blunder!
Staff will take into account the number of pieces lost, and the number of pieces captured. These two factors will determine how you grow. We do not take into account wins versus losses, just lost pieces and captured pieces.
- ■ PAWN
- Pawns are the most common type of character Solus Rex has to offer, and tend to wear very fancy outfits. Your goal, then, is to get even fancier with the least amount of troops lost! Unless, of course...you want a bloodied up character (which you are more than welcome to have!).
It's not the win that's important, it's more about how many pieces you can capture cumulatively.
You will need to capture a total of 20 pieces to upgrade to the bloody stage.
The number of YOUR pieces YOU get killed will count towards missing limbs and scars. Specifically...
---- 2 knights will result in a missing leg
---- 2 rooks will result in a missing arm
---- 2 bishops will result in a missing eye
---- Every 4 pawns will cause random scars.
Once you have destroyed/captured 20 enemy pieces, you can buy items from the shop. Whatever prosthetic limbs/accessories you buy will appear on the next stage's art. You must tell us when you are ready to upgrade...!


- ■ [BLOODY]
- Our in-between stage, the BLOODY stage is a reversal stage where any damage in the PAWN stage will be added on to your character's art, making him look beat up. Loss of limbs could potentially occur, but you will be able to buy prosthetics in the marketplace. If none are purchased, your continent's king and queen will automatically provide you with wooden pegs and/or hooks for you as a token of their gratitude for your service.
At the same time, pieces killed will accumulate to count towards a scar or a missing limb!
---- Example, 50 any piece and 25 rooks lost, will result in missing arms.
---- Example, 50 any piece and 25 knights lost, will result in missing legs.
---- Example, 50 any piece and 25 bishops lost, will result in missing eyes.


- ■ [ROOK, KNIGHT, BISHOP]
- When you reach this stage, you can choose if you want to keep your prosthetics or simply have stubs. Knights will have continent-specific animals to ride on, while Rooks will obtain their respective continents' best weapons. Bishops will....

- ■ BLUNDER
- There are bandits everywhere and they're looking for you. If you fail to keep up with playing after three warnings due to inactivity, your piece will blunder and will become easy targets to undergo an unfortunate transformation. Stripped of his ranking and position, your character will become a "chibi moeblob"--nothing like his prior state.
THIS IS BASICALLY OUR REHOMING SYSTEM. YOU CANNOT BUY YOUR CHARACTER BACK ONCE IT HAS BEEN BLUNDERED.
These kidnapped blunders will be then be sold in the marketplace! Once marked a blunder, a character can never truly return to former glory, and can only advance in what is a "blunder growth." This means that while one is able to rise up through the ranks, their shape as a moeblob stays intact, and can only promote to blunder rooks/knights/bishops. This lineage of growth can be seen as the most traditional Solus Rex has to offer, however, since the character is so small, growth can be difficult. Blunders who are first bought from the marketplace are recognized as PAWNS as well.

- What happens if you don't really know how to play chess?
- Aside from the basics (Knights to L-shape and can jump over other pieces, Bishops go diagonal, Rooks go up and down side to side, Queens are a combination of Bishops and Rooks, and Pawns go forward one space and kill diagonal, etc) it's not necessary to actually know how to play chess for two reasons! For one, these games aren't traditional chess matches; we're not taking into account wins versus losses, rather number of pieces you take and lose!
For another, the site we are using highlights all possible moves you can make with all possible pieces! Anybody at any skill level can join!
