For thousands of years, senshi, champions, and guardians have served as the custodians of the galaxy's power, and for thousands of years they performed their work in the shadows, keeping their power and knowledge secret just as they kept the innocent safe.

But things are never so one-sided, and for every senshi, champion, and guardian who fought for peace and unity there were those who served the darkness, who sowed Chaos wherever they went. Whatever their motives, the outcome was nearly always the same: obliteration of all life in their path.

Just over 1000 years ago Chaos was sealed away by Queen Serenity, but the seal broke, and during the late 20th century waves of darkness washed over the Earth, each increasing in power. It was the arrival of this darkness that brought on the awakening of the Lunar senshi who along with their guardians beat Chaos back, and for a few decades there was peace throughout the Earth.

This peace came to an abrupt and brutal end in the year 2060, when Earth was struck by an asteroid, plunging it into an impact winter and triggering a renewed ice age. Billions, among them the Lunar senshi, died, and those who survived were left to fend for themselves with the collapse of the world's major economies and governments. Humanity wasn't alone however, and with the help of the guardians, life on Earth managed to survive.

One hundred years have passed since the impact, and the ice shows no sign of receding. In spite of this, society has managed to rebuild itself, to a degree, under the ground. Though the Overground remains functionally lawless, governed by the whims of those who can claim some power for their own, there is a rhythm to life, and opportunity for those who would seize it.

The Region
The Ice Flats occupy much of the region surrounding what was once known as Nimbus City. The bay that met its eastern coast is covered by a thick sheet of ice that lends the region its name. Deep digs and drilling have allowed guardians and humans to tap into geothermal energy and eke out an existence on the frozen ground.

To the south, there is a small amount of arable land used to grow some hardier crops. In addition, the city is supplied in large part by geothermal farming pioneered by the guardians.

The bulk of the region is very sparsely populated, with only nomads and farmers making their homes outside of the city proper.

The City
Nimbus City is comprised of three layers. The topmost, the Overground, is the most heavily populated. It's dominated primarily by the gangs who roam the city. Though there are enclaves of order in the Tech Compound and Guardians' Keep, most of the Overground is controlled by whoever can keep control of the territory.

The middle layer of the city sits just beneath the Overground, the bulk of it occupying the disused subway system. It is populated primarily by low tier Citadel workers and those Overgrounders who managed to work their way in.

The bottom-most layer of the city is known simply as The Citadel. Occupied by the wealthiest, most influential denizens of the city, the Citadel is the glittering gem of reborn technology and luxury. It is kept secure by its thick walls and the efficient tactics of its squadrons.

Civilians are the backbone of society, the very basis of humanity. They are the ordinary individuals behind the powered forms that roam the city, the faces that bring this world to life. After all, there's more to life than roaming the streets as magical warriors, at the end of the day, your spouse is still going to nag you to go for food. And not as Sailor What's-your-name either.

Though these forms have no magical abilities, humans are inherently resourceful and cunning, their versatility allows them to accomplish nearly anything they set their mind to.

The magic users, wielding the energy of the galaxy in whatever unique way manifests within them. They can be male, female, or even swap genders during transformation. In this form, they have enhanced speed and endurance, able to take more damage than a mundane human.

First Stage Senshi

As the name implies, this is the stage at which your senshi begins. Their power is in its infancy and their abilities aren't particularly impressive, but hopefully they serve their purpose, at least enough to keep them alive in combat.

Super Senshi

A step up from first stage, super senshi are beginning to come into their own as warriors. Their abilities are growing in power, and their fuku is a bit more complex.

Eternal Senshi

The penultimate stage, your senshi is nearing the peak of their power, gaining a third, very powerful, ability and a much more complex fuku.

Cosmic Senshi

Your senshi has reached the apex of their power, gaining more frequent access to the use of their magical abilities and an entirely new outfit. (Think Princess Serenity as compared to Sailor Moon)

Champions are the physical force that backs the senshi's power, balancing their magical abilities with raw might. With enhanced speed, endurance, and strength, they provide the front line support. Like senshi, champions can be male, female, or swap genders during transformation.

Guard
The first stage of a champion's progression. Though more competent in battle than the average civilian, they still have a lot to learn. Their magical abilities are very minor and their uniforms and weapons are simple.

Legionnaire:
Your champion is finding their footing as a combatant, and has increased their prowess in battle. Their uniforms and weapons are a bit more complex and their magical abilities are slightly more powerful.

Centurion
Your champion is a full blown war machine, definitely not a person to challenge lightly on the battlefield. Their uniforms and weapons are fairly complex, and their magical abilities are more powerful than before.

General
Your champion has reached the peak of their power, able to stand against even the mightiest of enemies. They've got a whole new uniform, and their weapon has become magically enhanced.

Guardians are animal-linked beings, well known for their long lifespans and magical ingenuity. Due to their deep connection to the Galaxy Cauldron, they have the ability to awaken the power within senshi and champions. They often act as advisors to other magical individuals, and as a faction provide a neutral channel for guardian technology.

Animal Form
Animal form guardians are somewhat limited in their capabilities, they are restricted to what can be done in their animal forms, but make up for their limitations with the wealth of information and magic at their disposal.

Human Form
Second stage guardians take on a humanoid shape, but retain animalistic traits such as ears, tails, and wings. With this new form they are able to do anything a human can do in addition to creating new guardian technology.

Techs are a neutral faction of non magical civilians, who through ingenuity, training, or both have come to master the art and science of creating technological wonders. Focusing on two of the eight specializations, they constantly strive to improve their craft. Though as a faction they are neutral, Techs may attach themselves to any gang or squadron as they see fit.

Apprentice
Your tech has just begun their journey toward mastery. Generally working under the supervision of a more advanced tech, they create minor pieces of technology and help with larger things as they work their way toward more impressive work. Their uniforms tend to be pretty simple.

Journeyman
Your tech has earned their way into their own workspace. Though they aren't qualified to have their own apprentices, they are able to aid in the training of those working for master or grandmaster techs. The items or abilities they can use are more impressive than those of an apprentice, and they've won the right to emblazon their works with a maker's mark.

Master
Your tech has reached a position of great respect within the tech community. They can take on their own apprentices and even work as a teacher within the tech schools. They can create truly impressive works of technology and can work wonders in their specializations. Their makers marks can be emblazoned in silver and their uniforms tend to be more complex.

Grandmaster
Your tech is at the pinnacle of their career and is, quite likely, widely renowned for their skill. What they create pushes the limits of imagination and expands the horizons of the human race. Their makers marks can be emblazoned in gold, and they can wear nearly anything they like as a uniform.
