RP Sample: Iris sat on the rattling train, long, black hair dangling over her left shoulder in a french braid as she thumbed through the plastic-sealed pages of the scrap book that Elissa had made her of the past summer. The date was June 31st, and the first day back in Merry Old England for Iris. There was about a week until school at Amaranth Grounds began again, enough for her to get adjusted to the time change and settle into her dorm.
Though Iris was already beginning to feel a little homesick, the excitement of returning to her school making it dim somewhat.
After flying from Portland, to New York, to London, and now taking the tram to Cornwall, the travelling was beginning to wear on her, though the fact that she'd slept on the transatlantic flight helped a good bit. In any case, as soon as she'd unloaded herself at Chelmsford, the journey was not anywhere near over. Next she would have to take a bus to Ælfwine, a small hamlet off in the countryside. From there, the only thing she knew was that she'd be meeting at the Owl's Grimoire, your stereotypical tavern almost as if it were from a fairytale where the adventuring party would meet up to save the princess. She had to give a small laugh at this thought-- it'd be much more realistic if they were saving a prince. Testosterone filled maniacs. In any case, every year the mode of transportation to the school was difficult, the only consistent factor was the presence of Professors Khalil, Matthis, and Sparrow. To greet them, there was always Professors Dargen, Gould, and Acerbus. Iris had learned the hard way to avoid Khalil and Sparrow; sticking with Matthis was always the best idea, seeing as he was the only one who wouldn't bite your head off if you sneezed.
"Last call for disembarking. If your destination is Chelmsford, please disembark now. I repeat, if your destination is Chelmsford, please disembark now." Iris realized that she had been daydreaming again and jumped up, startled; this hurried action, of course, displaced all of her papers and books that she'd laid out on her lap, and she was forced to shove them all into a pile before rushing down the isle to jump off the train onto the platform. Luckily, since she took the same route every year, the porter, so named Harry, had already unloaded her bags with the knowledge that she would be leaving here. The wrinkled old man still stood by them, ever faithful, and she rushed up to give him a kiss on the cheek.
"Hey! Thank you sooo much! Whatever would I do without you?" she laughed, giving him a squeeze around the waist, her own weak form of a hug; strength was not a trait she had in any great wealth.
"Why hello there, Missus Iris! I've been missin' you!" Harry cocked his hat in greeting and tapped her nose. "Looks like you've just come out from an earthquake," he laughed, hugging her as well. "How was your summer?"
"Oh, it was wonderful! I spent the whole time with Elissa, and we visited Vancouver for a few weeks! I've decided that I do quite like Canadians!" she replied, looking up at him with a broad grin.
"Alright, my little Juliet," --Juliet was his nickname for her, so called because of her raven black hair, like that of said character in the 1968 version of Romeo and Juliet-- "As I hate to say this, but if I stay, I'm going to lose my job. The train's leaving, dear."
"Goodness gracious, go man go!" Iris exclaimed, releasing him almost as quickly as she had gained a hold on him. With one of her half free hands, she shooed him on towards the tram, which had slowly began to turn its wheels, slowly picking up speed.
"Alrighty, Missus Iris. I'll certainly miss you! Best wishes to you in the new year!" Harry, ever the gentleman, dashed up to the train, grabbing hold of a railing on the side, and waved his porter's cap at her, blowing a kiss. "'Til next year, my dear!" he called, giving a mock bow.
Iris laughed, her smile broadening. "Bye! I'll miss you!" she cried in response, waving until he was out of sight. As the train turned around a bend and he was lost to her, she gave a happy sigh. This was why she had missed England.
