Spirits, gods and demons; those who inhabit their own world but sometimes travel between our
own. Their lifestyles are stressful, tedious, and often times they all need a quiet, wonderful place
to gather and relax with no sense of responsibility. It is here that they come, to the bathhouse,
where they are catered to their every whim—as long as they can pay.
Mirei, the proprietor of this particular bathhouse, brings a mystical beauty to the spirits, enchanting
them to return with her wonderful workers and charm. Hundreds of workers inhabit the bathhouse,
being spirits themselves, and their powers assist them in taking the utmost care of their customers.
Her establishment is one of few, all of which are competing to care for the spirits wandering in
search of relaxation.
Which are you? Do you attend to the gods and demons who travel far and wide to relax or are
you the one doing the traveling to be catered to?

There are two distinct castes to choose from in BotG, that of the customers who attend the bathhouse.
Weary spirits or gods who need a break from their arduous and taxing lifestyles or the workers, spirits who
either volunteered or were forced into servitude. This Bathhouse is owned by a mysterious and beautiful
kami known only as Mirei who is as cunning and manipulative as she is benevolent. It is her bathhouse
that the spirits come to for guidance and relaxation.
Bathhouse of the Gods focuses both on the customers and the workers of the bathhouse. The setting
is vast, spanning over the entire property belonging to Mirei, including not only the bathhouse itself,
but also the many places to relax and find entertainment; restaurants, entertainment venues, gardens,
and even sleeping quarters for those too weary to move on until morning.
These spirits literally come in all shapes and all sizes. They can be anything from an animated
sandal, talking animals to giant skeletal ghost whales. The true limits are in your imagination,
but of course there's tons of Japanese folklore you could get inspiration from!
As a rough guideline, there are three separate genders; male, female and unisex. Unisex can either
be genderless, both genders at once, or whatever sort of way you wish to construe it that makes you
the most comfortable with the character.
Customers and Workers are sized between three distinct measurements, though they're about as
vague as we can get. "Small" is essentially a chibi, and can range anywhere from the size of a
bug to a medium-sized dog. "Humanoid" is a rough measurement and only means the size of a
human, not that the spirit necessarily has human features or a human body -- they can if they
so choose, though. The final measurement is "Grand", which is pretty much anything larger than the
ones listed and is usually what dragons and other similar spirits are registered as.
Workers generally follow the same constraints, but do have certain loose restrictions against them.
For instance, while Customers have the ability to wear whatever they want, even no clothing at all,
those who work for the Bathhouse are required to wear a gender specific uniform color coded for gender;
red for females, blue for males and purple for unisex. As well, their physical forms may be altered by
Mirei's powerful magics to make them more able to work for her. A snake under her rule may
take the form of a naga instead, so that they may have hands with which to clean,
cook or do whatever their job may be.
These sorts of things will often depend upon the spirit, and there certainly can be
less than human or 'normal' creatures working within the Bathhouse proper
so this should not be taken as a blanket rule.

Perhaps you are a river spirit, or some embodiment of an emotion. Maybe you’re a lonely shadow
who yearns for company. Whatever the case, as long as you’re not a human, you’re welcome in
our doors; young or old, big or small, size does not matter and as long as you have the proper
payment, we can wash your worries away, guaranteed.
Customers, on which workers spend all their time and energy, are single-stage pets. They will
not grow, and thus require no roleplaying to keep. If you are interested in a pet to use merely
as sig candy, this is the direction you want to go, though we do always promote roleplaying
amongst customers as well!

You, too, are spirits, but decidedly…lower on the food chain. Perhaps you need to work off a debt,
or are hiding out here because you got into trouble. Your reasoning doesn’t interest us, all that
matters is that you cater to our customers every whim and please them as they desire. You are
here to serve them, worker, so hop to it.
Workers are the growing pets in the bathhouse. They go through three stages, or ranks, and are
in charge of keeping everything in order dependent on their stage and specific job.

Every worker - no exceptions - starts out at this level. Your pet is given a standard uniform based on its gender, and is sent off to do lowly grunt work. Every day is spent performing the lowest of tasks and chores, whatever filthy work their supervisors can come up with for them. At some point, a higher-ranked worker may take an entry level pet under their wing, start teaching them a more specific trade that may determine where they work in later stages.

In all honesty, supervisors do very little actual work. By this point, your pet is so high up in rank that they answer to no one and boss everyone else around instead. It's a great feeling, being on top, being in charge and having everything go your way. But be warned. If something goes wrong and word gets to Mirei, it's your butt on the line.

Bathhouse of the Gods is a B/C shop based around the Studio Ghibli film Spirited Away by Hayao Miyazaki. It is set in a bathhouse used exclusively by spirits -- no humans allowed! It is not the same bathhouse as seen in the movie and will not contain any of the same characters. However, it does have a similar feel and that is something we want to be carried over through art and roleplay. That said, BotG is a lighthearted B/C with most of the drama and intrigue being generated by the users rather than the staff.
As a manager, it will be your job to oversee both the Workers and Customers, make sure they are playing nicely, following the rules, and especially aren't being over powered. For the Workers in particular, you will also be asked to keep an eye on their activity levels. As we said before, we're a lighthearted and easy going B/C -- our activity requirements are exceedingly stress free -- but as Workers are RP required, we still must watch over them and if they are being misused or not used at all we will take action. On the lighter side, you will also be overseeing their development to see if they're on the right track for growth and let the other staff know when you believe them to be ready to move on to the next stage.
Occasionally, you may be asked to think up sale ideas or plot developments for the shop as well as run games from time to time. Being a manager for BotG means many things, and also entails a certain level of writing. Roleplaying and running ORPs may be a big part of your responsibilities here at Bathhouse, so be prepared for this sort of thing should you apply!
With so many different spirits and creatures from all over Asia, it seems the artist's work is cut out for them. However, this position will offer a wonderful amount of creativity. There are only loose restrictions on precisely what sort of spirits can be either customers or workers and you will largely be allowed to let your imaginations run wild. However, we do have a specific theme in this shop and it is largely influenced by traditional and mythical Japanese culture so we expect you to be a little familiar with this sort of thing or at least open minded enough to learn. It is important to be communicative of your intentions as far as designs go and how you would like your art to be sold off so there are no misunderstandings.
There will be no monthly quotas to fill as far as art goes, but we would like to have semi-frequent updates on whether you would like to hold events or create new spirits. As well, the staff may come up with event ideas at any time but we will always give you a heads up and allow you the option to participate or not. If you are unsure of your schedule at any given time, please tell us and do not volunteer for events unless you are certain you will be able to meet decided deadlines. To keep everything running smoothly everyone needs to communicate and be attentive as much as they can.
For both positions, we stress that this shop is largely experimental and still a work in progress so we expect to meet occasional bumps as far as running events and things go. Most of all, though, we'd really just like to have fun with this place and allow those who want to participate have fun too. To do that, though, everyone needs to be responsible and do what is asked of them. If you can do this and meet the given criteria then we all wish you the best of luck and cannot wait to have you join us!
