Democrat, republican, left wing, right winged, the tea party, the socialist party, etc. We side with those political parties whose ideologies most accurately reflect our own personal values and aspirations. The goal of each party is to promote those values which they believe will provide the best results for the governing of a stable society. What political party do you align yourself with and why do you believe that their positions are the most effective for running the government?

Centre, Leaning Democrat. Mostly because I have more common ground and whatever moderate Republicans that exist share their party platform with religious fundamentalists, which I cannot get behind.

I typically classify myself as an independent, but I have affiliations with the Modern Whig party, though I'm not a member due to disagreements with the party ideology.
