I think men AND women are equal.
Women have two years less of growing than men do. Women have less testosterone in their body than men do. It's just a fact of biology.
I think women and men don't realize how much stronger the average guy is, because they don't encounter situations where that matters too often. If you enter a gym and hold a heavy bag for a man and a woman, you can physically feel how much harder a guy can hit it. Even if they're both at the same skill level.
Add to that longer legs and arms, and it gets more difficult for the average woman to compete against the average man in physical athletics.
Now, sports where there is no advantage to being "bigger", like judo, amateur wrestling, shooting, karate or chess, men and woman can compete as being equals. But in sports like basketball, where being taller is a huge advantage, women often can't compete as equals.
In my experience, they are about equal when hitting a heavy bag. Striking has a very small advantage to size, and a very huge advantage to technique.
