All those Conservatives up here back in 2006 that voted against bringing up the same-sex marriage issue again weren't really punished at all.

Uh....why would they be?

Because some of them were voted in to represent their communities on the issue.

It's coming back to haunt Ruby Dhalla, who while is a Liberal MP, represents a large socially conservative minority.

It's been raised a few times in various threads, especially iduring the healthcare debate, that Democrats are not following the party line and voting against party policy. Don't they have anything to fear from their higher ups? Do they not have to worry about someone else getting dumped in their place come next election for being a whiney b***h?

Party discipline in the US political system is notoriously weaker than in parliamentary systems.

The only recent example up here I can think of is when Diane Ablonczy, Canadian Minister of State when it comes to tourism, came money to Toronto's Pride Week, about $400 000, and removed her power to give money to festivals.

Eh, Harper muzzles the socially conservative crowd in his party, which quite frankly I'm fine with. I'd rather not have Stockwell Day opening his mouth on things he is better off shutting up about.

Since the majority of people can't see bullshit even if it's in their nose, the democrats care about there own a** in congress then what needs to be done because they can easily lose to an idiot Republican because he's conservative. Republicans don't have to worry about this because the places where they represent are full of ignorant people who are ant- anything democrat even if it will benefit them.

This is why I hate my country. If people actually had a brain and actually reasoned, the GOP wouldn't exist or not at least like they are now. They would have to be more moderate near progressive to keep up.
