Good for you? That's, what, ten... eleven percent of your population? You must be very proud. =)
Either ~23.4% or ~25.5%, depending on whether you count Washington yet. (This is roughly either 2.18 or 2.38 Canadas of people who enjoy marriage equality.)
Not that this actually changes your broader point, but....numerical question. Compelled to answer.
That's weird, did I miss a couple states? I thought it came out to about 35 or 36 million people all tallied up, but I DID forget Washington state. That alone doesn't account for the discrepancy though. Are you including California?
Edit: Added in Washington and got 13.4%. You must be including California. Aren't we jumping the gun a little? Same-sex marriage is still restricted there.
Yeah, I was much too optimistic in counting. (Though really "optimism" doesn't begin to cover it; there's no excuse for messing up on California, not sure how that happened redface ). And on second thought, Washington probably really shouldn't count either since marriage equality hasn't taken effect yet, and probably won't for quite a while if it's challenged by a referendum.
Fixing this puts it at ~11.3%
