I know people are excited about a potential step forward in the gay marriage debate.... but doesn't this seem a lot like "separate but equal" to anyone else?

The solution here is actually quite simple. Take away the government's ability to grant "marriage certificates" and instead let it only be domestic partnerships then marriage itself is only a religious institution.

Agreed, I am pro separation of church and state, and I favor this option over all others. Remove the word marriage from all legal documents and replace with civil union or domestic partnership. Or just give marriage rights to gays, whatever. Both give equality, the former has an added bonus of separating church and state.
Hmm...
you know, I think I support this too.

In my discussions with anti-gay marriage conservatives, I have had much more success using this argument. I find that they are more willing to support a separation of church and state, than to have "the government endorse an 'invalid marriage'." Of course there is no reason a gay marriage should be invalid, but arguing with them over that fact rarely goes anywhere.

Well, winning Seattle was important. I bet Microsoft supported this bill.

Btw, The entire west coast is like this, the coastal area is Democrat liberal and the east side or rural ares are conservative Republicans.

Yep. So did Boeing, Nike, and Puget Sound Energy.
This is good news... for the most part.

Civil Union VS Civil Marriage.

I'm for Civil Marriage, but I think it should lose its religious significance. It already lost its religious significance (in my eyes) as soon as it became a constitutional right.

"A rose by any other name would smell as sweet."
Or, if you prefer cheeseburgers, there's the cheeseburger analogy a bit before this post.
There's a big flaw in this idea. Namely, separate but equal. They very idea of granting the same rights except with a different name conveys the belief that the group that's forced to use a secondary title is a group of second class citizens.

EDIT: Also, there's a touch if humor in the argument that homosexuals want "special rights." The only people who are demanding special rights for homosexuals... are the heterosexuals that wish to "protect the sanctity of marriage." (which is a joke in and of itself)
i like that option! does it mean you still have to join debts and paychecks with the person?

edit: im not against gay marriage at all if anything i think its evil that the church is in cahoots with politics.

Though Apple is a bit of a douche in their ethics.

Your going have to define, "conservative" and, "liberal" when talking about businesses that play on a international level.

Well Steve Jobs founded NExT after he was kicked out of his CEO position from a cooperate takeover. Mainly NExT had leave and benefits for, and considered homosexual stable relationships to married to that of their counterparts.

That is a pretty gross generalization. Cities dwellers tend to be more likely to be Democrats and cities tend to be on the west side of these states but that is not the rule. Take Oregon for example, there are cities in the west that tend to vote for the Dems but as soon as you are outside of the cities in rural areas the people tend to be more conservative. A better way to say what you are getting at is to point out that the western parts of the west coast contain most of the big cities and the eastern areas are largely rural.

Apple is located in California and so is Google.
UPDATE: R-71 passed 51.03% to 48.97%.

The Zen Master says, "That's all folks."
didnt the zen master say that with stuttering?
This will unfold a bit differently than we can expect from the information given to us.

I'm being cautious, just like with the Health Care Bill, the wording may be interpreted in numerous ways.

This can go so wrong.
i voted for this. SO glad that it passed.
