UPDATE!!!

72% of the vote has been counted and it is still 52% approve, 48% disapprove.

Any way to find out the red/blue county splits to determine how much wider that margin will become, or if it will close?

Results by county on R-71. For the most part the Eastern side of the State is blue, Spokane votes red here & there. The West side of the Cascades is red in the more populated counties & about even in the rural counties.

The way Bellingham is on the rant/rave part of craigslist, I'd think they would be more in the rejected side........seriously, everyone in there is the definition of a Fox sheeple.

I like how you're all supporting this tip-toe-through-the-tulips legislation. I won't be happy until churches are forced to marry gays.

Churches should never be forced to marry anyone. What should happen is ONLY the government issues and recognizes marriage licenses/certificates and then the people can have a ceremony wherever and however they like. The totally removes the religious aspect of domestic partnership.

Which will never happen. Besides, I'd prefer to just stick it to the churches.

Then ******** off.
Question for you all. What is so messed up with Washington that they are hand counting these ballots?

I don't really care about R-71 so I haven't followed the story.

People here are cheap and don't but those newfangled computerized automated vote-counting contraptions. Trust me, I know, I fix systems for the corporations here and EVERY one goes for the lowest bidder.....all ZIP disks and floppies for corporate backups gonk

Yes, we do like our paper around here, don't we. (Wonder if Boise Cascade has the contract on those ballots.) All but one county is vote by mail. Large paper ballots, fill in the rectangle type. I would love to see some use of technology, but you just know that we'd all get the blue screen & then all hell would break lose. Have to admit though, I do like being able to spend a week or two with my ballot, get to know it before I go marking it up. It sure could be smaller though.

Though I think that part of the reason it takes so long for certification is the bunch of crap that we went through with Gregoire/Rossi in 2004. Those two gave Bush/Gore a run for their money on ballot counting.

Tis me, I fix that. :3

I stayed out of the bit during that D:
Paper ballots do work. I'm still in favor of using them (hell, I still use them even if electronic voting is available). I continue to distrust the company that makes the electronic voting machines.
If it gives the same legal rights and spousal benefits then its the same thing as marriage legally, so the movement will lose a big chunk of its reasoning for gay marriage, the legal angle at least, as if this does indeed guarantee the rights present in a marriage then it's good enough.

If it looks like a cheeseburger, tastes like a cheeseburger, then calling it a hot dog won't make it taste like one.

I know people are excited about a potential step forward in the gay marriage debate.... but doesn't this seem a lot like "separate but equal" to anyone else?

The solution here is actually quite simple. Take away the government's ability to grant "marriage certificates" and instead let it only be domestic partnerships then marriage itself is only a religious institution.

Agreed, I am pro separation of church and state, and I favor this option over all others. Remove the word marriage from all legal documents and replace with civil union or domestic partnership. Or just give marriage rights to gays, whatever. Both give equality, the former has an added bonus of separating church and state.

This is what is called 'civil unions for everyone'. Check my history around the forum and you'll see that civil unions my stance on the [gay marriage] issue.

I wouldn't be surprised. I seem to recall ACORN somehow used 'necromancy' to bring people back from the dead to vote for Gregoire back in '04, among other forms of voter fraud bullshit. Just another reason why ACORN's corrupt (or at least the Washington state branch).

[rant]Let's not forget the 561 "discovered ballots" by King County Council Chairman Larry Phillips (a Democrat). The county election officials figured Phillips' signature somehow didn't register in county's election computer system, and after that they discovered 162 more uncounted ballots in storage and in a warehouse. And then at least five other counties discover extra ballots during the by-hand recount.

In the end Gregoire gets the governship by only 129 votes that were discovered after election day. Which means that she only one because these uncounted ballots mysteriously appeared. Rossi would have won that election if it hadn't been for all of that voting fraud in King County. [/rant]

*shrugs* But that was five years ago. Rossi lost last year, but as far as I know there wasn't as much voting fraud as back in '04.

Yeah, Washington has an unique voting system.

Yeah, Washington has an unique voting system.

True, but they make every effort to make sure registered voters get a chance to cast their ballots. My own district sends me an early mail-in ballot then the real one. If they fail to get the regular one in time, the early ballot works. If they receive it, they destroy the early ballot, unopened. Unfortunately, my county seems to be part of Redneckistan this time around. I'm glad there's others to carry the weight, though.

Hmm...
you know, I think I support this too.
