Personally, if I was a muslem, I'd feel slightly offended at being left out of the movie.

This is stupid, seriously, the media is still claiming that the muslims are a peaceful people. While we have a president who constantly gets caught with his head down their pants kissing both cheeks. I would hope we all know better than to think people like that are harmless, they already plot to destroy America and Israel and they have control of the U.N. They won't stop there, if they succeed in taking either country out, it's a tossup about who's next, England? France? Italy? Russia? Japan? China? Take your pick of countries that are not run by Islam yet which the numbers of them get smaller and smaller everyday. Anyone who thinks they aren't inherrently dangerous people are being willfully ignorant and naive. They're ruthless murderers and will not stop until the whole world is under Islamic rule, that is their goal. Our own society is drowning us as well in a sea of touchy feely politics that just make it easier for them to get away with stupid s**t like this. It's a movie, suck it up and move on like the rest of the religions have to.

Doesn't matter. The excuse that 'we must push the boundaries regardless of risk' falls flat when you realize they're really a bunch of pussies.

Hollywood, it can't make something like that. If it gets good reviews, the muslim world will have rekindled hatred for western society, insurgent groups will be all uberpowerful, and the Oscar will go to someone else anyways.

True enough, but it is still counter to what they claim.

I don't quite get your perspective on this. Are you upset that this film doesn't include Mecca, or are you upset that it includes the Vatican and other religious symbols?

I am an equal opportunity a**. If you're gonna blow up the Vatican or some other holy sites to 'make it impact' then either have the balls to do them all or don't do any.
This 'well, we'll insult this religion/destroy their holy sites' but leave this one alone because they're scary' is ******** stupid and cowardly.

Well, I think it's more common sense, personally. I think that he should leave all religious symbols out because there are clearly going to be a great many who are offended by their destruction, and I don't think that shock value makes a good film. But if a fatwa is as bad as people are claiming that it is, I wouldn't call avoiding one "cowardly," unless I consider pointing a loaded gun to my head and pulling the trigger "brave."

I am far, far away from being a good member of any religion. But to pull this? He could destroy the Eiffel Tower, the Capital Building, and many others, without ever touching any religious icons, and be fine.
But he's playing a double standard. "I'm fine pissing on the christian/buddhist/non-violent beliefs, but I am NOT messing with Muslims. My ability to insult only extends as far as my courage, and since he HAS NONE, he is going to stop here."
Courage doesn't mean smart. But compassionate does. And this man obviously has no compassion.

I'm not sure if you meant to say passion, but this fellow obviously doesn't care about any of the religious beliefs. The only motivation I see for him not including Muslim symbols is his fear of repercussions, which seems reasonable. In fact, I almost think he should've removed the other symbols as a sign of respect for the fact that the faithful of those other religions will not decree his death based on the destruction of their own landmarks.

I think there's justification for you to be upset, but as a private citizen and having artistic control over the project in his possession I wouldn't knock the man too hard for this decision. If you disagree then simply say so by not contributing to its sales.

Sorry.

I agree. Don't worry, he won't get any money from this house, ever. I won't see the movie of a person such as this. And yeah, I enjoyed some of his previous work.

...What would that be?

Ugh, some of the worse movies I've ever seen. And those are the 'noteworthy' ones? Wow. Come to think of it, idk if I've ever seen a good apocalyptic movie that didn't rely on advanced (but still laugh out loud) CG.

Ugh this sucks, we don't want to alienate these people even more from us by pissing them off with smashing their icons.

But at the same time we do it to all the other reiglions...why is that any different?....

What about Islam is a religion of PEACE! wink

They are a religion of peace I'm quite sure they won't blow me up for blowing up their icons.

I'm quiet amazed that he would be attacked if he included the Kabe, because he is not exclusively attacking Islam, but other religions as well.
Not only that, but the Kabe was first a site of pagan Arab religions, not Islam.
Unlike the "Muhammad cartoon" and Satanic Verses, his movie isn't specifically geared at Islam.

That's not to say that people with political axes to grind will not have a fun time blowing it out of proportion by telling all those people who haven't seen the movie that this was an attack on their religion and conveniently leave out how the world has been attacked somewhat equally by only focusing on one particular scene.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't really find the destruction of historical sites coupled with the deaths of people that tasteful.

It's destruction porn.

Looks like bad destruction porn, at that. Gratuitous at the very least.

If someone order a fatwa against me, is it in my legal rights to kill the person who issued it against me? its only self defense.

A fatwa is where all able bodied Muslims are summoned as a unified killing force.
Good luck.
Except no. As mentioned in the article, it's a religious opinion on Islamic law, only really considered binding in Shi'a Islam. Sunnis wouldn't really pay attention to an ayatollah issuing a fatwa. In any case, you're thinking of the one Khomeini issued against Salman Rushdie, which was a death sentence in the form of a fatwa.

Personally, I can't see a death sentence fatwa being issued just because of a scene showing a holy place blowing up, but that's just me.

This is stupid, seriously, the media is still claiming that the muslims are a peaceful people.

So the words and actions of a few extremists speak for the millions of Muslims everywhere? Okay we can play this game,

I don't know why Christians are considered so peaceful. After all, they have abortion clinic bombers. rolleyes

they already plot to destroy America and Israel and they have control of the U.N.

Considering the upheaval the US does to the Middle-East on a regular basis and the ******** surrounding anything Israel, I'm not surprised they want to take a nuke at Israel. Sometimes I feel like chucking one at Israel's highly conservative groups whose extreme Zionism causes them to steal other country's and people's land (read: Palestinians and Golan Heights with Syria).
