Still waiting for single-stage-to-orbit to get excited.
I am very disappointed at Obama we should be looking towards space for the future.

Seriously. How are we going to find Pandora at this rate? The Russians will get there first and take all the Unobtainium oil before we do.

Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Ala., called the cancellation of the moon program the "death march for the future of U.S. human space flight."

Typical a polar opposite from Obama would be crying foul like this...

Even though alot of us here are upset and alot of people are liberal. XD

Either way..maybe NASA officals are right though? Maybe they need to get some new future "key technologies" and get past chemical rockets. I keep thinking myself over the past few years waiting for the moon mission...that chemical rockets aren't the wave of the future, we need better safer ways to get to space, specifically when companies want to start privatizing space. I'm sure as hell don't think I wanna hop in a rocket when I'm in my 50s wanting to visit space once in my life.

I know alot of us are disappointed but maybe we should also shift our focus and scrutiny on the white house and NASA, to make sure then they make these better perpulstion and ways to get to space or the moon cheaper and faster as it seems they say their new goals are in the OP's article.

And had he promised to push it forward, they'd be decrying it as a needless waste of funds.

I ******** hate politics right now. It's not about having a different idea, it's simply about trying to get your opponent to fail. It's least-effort policy making, being not as bad as the guy before you.

******** worthless idiots.

NASA's yearly budget is $19 billion.

Defense budget : $534 billion + a good chunk of the discretionary spending + new debt
he can't reduce the military's budget until America is no longer at war. And he has to make sure they aren't going to make themselves look weak by doing it. it's risky business. I don't know if you noticed but America isn't too popular right now.

Remember why we're not too popular right now? It's because we started two ******** wars. I think we'd actually win popularity by pulling out ASAP. In fact, I'm pretty sure we continue to lose popularity the longer we stay there.

If he shows weakness in Americas current state he's making them a target.

We. Have. NUKES. We could take out every goddamn capital in the country right now if we wanted.

Believe me, nobody thinks we're weak.

It's a great deterrence for war. does it work? well has America been attacked? stare

Well, do you SEE any tigers? It's all because of this magical rock I have.[/simpsons]

Also, yeah.
other countries have nukes too. just because you're at war doesn't mean you get to use them. why do we have them? when it's obvious that in the long term they will only kill innocent people and make land uninhabitable, cause detrimental effects on the ecosystem ect? because they are a symbol of power. it means exactly as I've stated, we have them, making us dangerous. If any country were to actually use them. they would be global enemy nub#1. because of the sheer immorality of it. there would be a global outcry for blood. You yourself would get nuked. thus it is a deterrence for attack.

yes America started wars. Which was a bad idea, that's one of the reasons it's so unpopular now. Pulling out is a good idea, but you want to make sure that in doing so you aren't worsening the situation. you can't un-invade a country. The damage has been done. If America simply pulls out without insuring a just governing body is in power, then when they leave they leave the country in chaos. You now have removed the power tipping force that allowed the people to resist the terror groups. They want America out now. But if they leave without resolving the issue, those terror groups might want revenge on the people in their own country who supported them. That's how people get killed. As well this would actually hurt America image, as it shows that they are willing to start something but not finish. instead cause damage in entering the country and in leaving it. if you didn't want to be in this situation, you shouldn't have gone to war.

That's why you haven't seen me around as of late. I'm getting sick of this s**t too. It IS about yout image and getting your political opponents to fail. WHY do you think we are struggling so much as a country now? Because everyone who governs our country is selfish and self serving. Nothing is getting ******** done anymore.

You are 100% right, if Obama tried to push NASA still they WOULD be crying foul on wasted funds...but not it's OH WE CAN'T GO TO SPACE NOW.

On the one hand, this makes me sad. Space is awesome.

On the other hand, can't blame him. Bush's "Mars in 20whatever" was pure fantasy.

Give me control of the US for 10 years. I will set up permanent colonies on both Luna and Mars, dagnabit!

Which would ultimately ******** the economy and ruin the status quo which while irritating at times, happens to work.

No thanks.

Possible advancements to asteroid mining, a single one is worth over a trillion dollars.
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU-

....Okay, now that that's off my chest:

-It'll be interesting what happens with Congress. There's a lot of jobs invested in Bush's Constellation program, so there's probably going to be a frenzy to save parts of that program (and the jobs that go along with it).

-On the flip-side I have to agree with what he's doing, since it's reducing the spending by the government redirecting money to more immediate necessities.

-But I don't like the idea of having to use Russian rockets to get the shuttle up into space. But the idea of having private companies renting rockets out to NASA intrigues me. Private companies normally have the incentive to provide quality products, so the quality of their spaceships might (I hope) be better than the Russian rockets.

What will the future of NASA be?

As the Zen Master says, "We'll see."
