News that come with an clear ideological bias is never reliable because accuracy comes second to presenting an ideology in a positive or negative. In FOX's case they really don't care about accurate reporting and instead focus on catering to a conservative audience with an objective in mind, thriving on controversy with their punditry, and rating/profits.
I was moreso making the point that it's more about picking through what's given to you followed by researching the issue since there is bound to be a whole lot of important information left out. FOX has been known to alter videos of speeches (for example) to make their point of view better-supported. The spoon-fed person will accept it at face value while someone else is going to go find media of the whole speech and see what the context was around that specific clip in the news. It's accurate in the sense that it reported on something that actually happened, but they omit and manipulate a lot at the same time. Looking at FOX News solely on the level of face value, then no, it isn't reliable.
I agree with what you said about FOX though. They definitely cater towards the conservative audience and feed into the conservative population. For me, I know I'm not going to take anything that Ann Coulter, Bill O'Reilly, or Glenn Beck says seriously...
Then the responsible and intelligent viewer wouldn't watch FOX
at all for their news and instead pick sources that don't have a clear ideological bias or ratings-driven motives.
Which is why you don't watch network news for reliable information. NPR's alright, BBC is good (though has a British bias) Reuters and AP are also good sources. Any ONE of those sources gives you more accurate information than FOX, MSNBC, CNN, etc put together.
