FOX is reliable. They can be relied on to make perfect asses of themselves in every inane, slanted, skewed and utterly fantastical broadcast.

The only US news sources I rely on are independents like Democracy Now. PBS and NPR news shows are okay but try too hard to be "balanced" and sacrifice more daring investigative reporting in the process.

The influence of the military and corporations on news reporting is sad to see.

CNN was Anti Bush. Seriously this bashing Fox News
is old. CNN is the same, except the other side of things. American
news sucks, just face it. I've been paying attention to BBC more.
They tell more of the story, instead of trying to make someone look
good or bad. It's ashame you can't fully relay on American
news sources.

I really tire of "the same, except the other side of things" when comparing two things that are only remotely similar. CNN isn't similar in scale or intent. CNN doesn't even bill itself as the conservative version of news

That's because theyre on the "other side of things."
theyre liberal as all hell. Theyre trying to move to unbias, but it hasnt gone so well

They are not "liberal as hell" they're "liberal as hell if you believe that conservative media should be the norm"

They haven't had several memos leaked on how they their pundits and newscasters must present a point of view, they don't intentionally skew their "experts" to present a strong ideological argument and they don't have several hours every day dedicated solely to ideologue punditry.
CNN's bias is that they pick stories based on perceived viewer interest which means you get a lot of reporting on the entertainment industry

Are you kidding me? I flipped in on the other day, and the whole show was them basically saying "Fox is stupid." There was little evidence behind it too. They basically just kept saying the same thing over and over.

Would that be about when Fox tried and nearly succeeded in destroying the public life of Shirley Sherrod through sheer character assassination? Or when Fox couldn't tell two black people apart when talking about Maxine Waters but showing footage of Shirley Sherrod? Or would it be FOX spending an entire day reporting on Chelsea Clinton's wedding while obtaining absolutely no information? Which was it?

Is FOX News reliable? Yes, sometimes. Is it super biased? Yes. Are other news sources biased? Yes.

It's reliable in the sense that it does relay some level of accurate information of what's going on -- it comes at the price of a conservative slant. The same could be said if more liberal media as well in that the information comes with a liberal slant. Of course, and like any other news source, there's also a level of deception involved and information omitted. Unfortunately, a lot of the populous likes to be spoon fed instead of going out and researching for themselves or looking further into the information they are handed. Instead, they take what they are told at face value and that's that.

Me, personally, I like to look at all sorts of news then research into the issues myself. I think there are a lot of issues going on now that are far too complex and intertwined into history that can't be delivered accurately in a short newscast or even a brief online article.

News that come with an clear ideological bias is never reliable because accuracy comes second to presenting an ideology in a positive or negative. In FOX's case they really don't care about accurate reporting and instead focus on catering to a conservative audience with an objective in mind, thriving on controversy with their punditry, and rating/profits.

I was moreso making the point that it's more about picking through what's given to you followed by researching the issue since there is bound to be a whole lot of important information left out. FOX has been known to alter videos of speeches (for example) to make their point of view better-supported. The spoon-fed person will accept it at face value while someone else is going to go find media of the whole speech and see what the context was around that specific clip in the news. It's accurate in the sense that it reported on something that actually happened, but they omit and manipulate a lot at the same time. Looking at FOX News solely on the level of face value, then no, it isn't reliable.

I agree with what you said about FOX though. They definitely cater towards the conservative audience and feed into the conservative population. For me, I know I'm not going to take anything that Ann Coulter, Bill O'Reilly, or Glenn Beck says seriously...

Then the responsible and intelligent viewer wouldn't watch FOX at all for their news and instead pick sources that don't have a clear ideological bias or ratings-driven motives.

Which is why you don't watch network news for reliable information. NPR's alright, BBC is good (though has a British bias) Reuters and AP are also good sources. Any ONE of those sources gives you more accurate information than FOX, MSNBC, CNN, etc put together.

They could watch it to see what the other side is about. You or I, per se, are obviously not conservative so no, we wouldn't watch FOX as a main source of information. I generally stick with Reuters and AP for the most part followed by BBC.

I don't watch news to reaffirm my world view. That's not what anyone should watch or read the news for.

I never said that's what watching the news was about. I was just suggesting to play devil's advocate but hey, that's my opinion. I'm not going to continue to argue semantics and assumptions especially when I'm not disagreeing with you.
My father watches nothing but Fox News and worships the earth that Glenn Beck walks on. He's on disability and every single day he sits on the couch, growing more and more obese as he eats mindlessly, watching this mindless news channel. He only got to the seventh grade. Before he started watching this, he had no idea what socialism/facism were. Now he spouts these words incessantly at me whenever I'm in the house, as he knows I'm a liberal/progressive/whatever and he's been taught to be afraid of me. Very afraid of me.

He is a racist man with a hatred of homosexuality and holds to the idea that all people who can't speak English well should be deported, Christianity should be the national religion (he has only set foot in a church two times in the past thirty years, to get married to my mother and then to attend a funeral). He feels that Fox News is the only channel that agrees with him on this.

The only news channel I trust is my local, regional station. The reporters do not inject in their own opinions. They state the facts. They do not become emotional or get in arguments. They are no special segments beyond Home in the Heartland, which has been on since I was a little girl, and basically just shows a reporter going around the mountains and countryside here interviewing old people and oldtimey ways of life. There's no Glenn Beck.

I miss the days when national news was national news. Not the ******** tabloids on political crack.

CNN has been around since 1980, but cable news didn't start becoming tabloid until around 1996, so anyone over 14 years old? I suppose being old enough to remember it, so let's call it around 20 years old.

Oh, you were talking about cable news. i was talking about news in general.
I watched Glenn Beck once for 5 minutes. I soon discovered that I forgot where I was, I was almost drooling, and anything out of my mouth was a groan.

I was literally stricken retarded.

Maybe that's how Fox News get's their viewers.
