Well I think Democrats who honor McCain's service, in full knowledge of his opinion of the war,
are contradictory to their cause otherwise they're simply using the term "honor" in a loaded sense.
Contradictory? How so?

Democrats were mostly against the war, whereas John McCain supported various aggressive actions
to say that you honor his service coincides with the mentality during his service.

I respect the fact that he served, but I do not honor such service.

No, it doesn't say that at all.
We honor the service, but hate the war.

How can you honor the service when a lot of his mentality was that it was okay to use aggressive force against the Vietcong?
That was one of the mentalities that the liberals were trying to combat, but his service promoted such.

From what I understand Honor is whether or not the person reflects good characteristics in an individual's opinion.
Does he represent good characteristics by enlisting? In my opinion, yes.
Does he represent good characteristics by his service? In my opinion - as a while, no.

You're making the same mistake that the faux "support the troops" crowd does.
There's the honor in serving your country... then there's the disagreement with the war effort in general.
They're two entirely different concepts. He served his country by doing what his country asked of him. However, while we were honoring his efforts, people were also protesting the war effort
