Oh NOOOOOOOOOORRRRAAAAA!

I wanna hear the apologists explain THIS one away....

They don't have to the catholic church does not like gays its not a big secret.

Wait I thought they WERE gay. I mean with all the priests going after the little boys. 3nodding
Yeah had to say it.
How the hell does this decision confuse the parents? What made them think that the rules the Catholics laid out applied to every other parent...but them?
The Catholics have long held the belief and practice to hate the sin, not the sinner, and practicing homosexuals won't get a pass at their private schools.
This isn't a secular issue. This is a religious issue, and they have the right to do so.

Wasn't there something about not holding people accountable for the sins of their fathers? Not a political point really, but it just adds to my belief that religion is bullcrap.

That's your choice and opinion, Noogie. The quote you're talking about is the issue of not saying hte child will do the same thing as the parent, nothing more. It also makes it clear to keep the flock away and clear of those who transgress gladly against God's laws, as these two ladies do in the Catholic church belief, and the children in the school are to be protected, so they simply, as stated in the article, are NOT expelling the child (misleading tidbit no one has mentioned), but are not allowing the child to attend next year.
On the plus side at least the kid will get to go to a school that isn't a homophobic shithole.

At least they could have a better excuse then the parents are gay, even businesses have a better excuse.

Yay Hypocrisy!

It's not hypocrisy.
They're right; it's not hypocrisy, although I don't see them tossing out kids whose parents use contraception, either.

The Catholic school I went to was all uber social justice-y (the English department had a rainbow "Safe Zone" sticker in it, iirc) so the system is at least decentralized enough that I don't think the practice is pervasive even the Church itself hasn't made their anti-gay position a secret.
Not Hypocrisy. Just assholery. Also this:

Most people don't exactly advertise their contraceptive methods publicly. Sexuality, when in a relationship is an entirely different issue, as it is extremely difficult to hide being with a member of the same sex.

I know they don't advertise. Just pointing out that there are a good many things parents do that are not in line with Biblical teachings which Catholic schools do not use as grounds for expulsion, some of which are more public than contraception use.

I agree, but disfellowshipping costs the catholics money, and that is a problem. The homosexual issue? That is the one thing that usually they cannot overlook, because then their entire house of cards comes tumbling down.
Mandatory abstinence, which is not called for, and numerous other issues would have to be faced, so they keep the illusion.

Maybe the kids are faking being gay to get out of having to go to Catholic school?

It isn't the kids, Appel, it's the parents.

Oh right. Durr. Whatever. It's a private institution, not a lot anyone can do.
