Welcome to Gaia! ::

The first is the finished version of one I posted the other night.
And the other is one I did in class about an hour ago.
It took half as long as the first.

very nice ^^ good choice in colors and the skin looks like skin...which isn't as easy as some would think while painting. keep up the good work!

I hate mixing a palette for flesh.
4 values of red, yellow, green, purple, and orange.
And others.
Takes forever.

Thanks!

it really does sweatdrop but the payoff is nice at least. and working in oils means you have more time to fool around with the colors before it dries, so that's nice.

I LOVE the first one of your portraits! You can see the strong difference in shadows and values in that, plus the warm background brings it out more.

I share your pain of mixing oil colors... My biggest challenge is when I'm confronted with a Black-American model, and at a LOSS in how to mix dark colors without doing it as one tone... crying

Amazing! You did a great job with the colours, and it's got a very interesting texture to it.
She actually looks a bit like my boyfriend's mum! Haha xd

Yeah, I agree that its easier to find color in light skin.
There are several black regular models at my school, and I usually try to just do my best to push the warm/ cool contrast when I'm painting them.

I think they're my favorite models for charcoal drawings though.

I'm really glad people like the color.
Thats really what this was an exercise in.

I would have actually gotten rid of the texture and blended a lot more if I had had more time.

oh my.

gorgeous. absolutely gorgeous.

the ear on the second one does throw me off a bit, but other than that, these are just perfect.
The 2nd REALLY reminds me of Lucian Freud, especially the painting he made for the Queen.

Such lovely warm colours that really work well with one another.

Thanks? Lol
I really only like his double portraits with all the greyhounds or whippets.
But I can definitely see how the way he uses shapes of color is very similar to what I did.
