I think most people do realize how much better off we are with this medical testing or how wll the animals have to be taken care off for the testing (sure they aren't getting all the awesome play time and cute little toys but they do get the best food)

they probably don't even realize how that rat, degu, or mouse they keep as a pet came about. (Degus for example started out as lab animals and then turned into pets.... if my reading is correct.)

Research labs are secretive. If it's a secret, then they must be doing bad things right?
Really the issue is that PETA and groups like it have spread tons of misinformation, outdated misinformation and have run successful smear campaigns. They've been so successful that research labs and the people who work in them are afraid to speak up about what really happens because it's immediately taken and twisted by PETA and similar groups. Research staff from the PI's to the janitors to the office staff are afraid to tell people what they do for a living. Heck in my orientation I was told specifically not to tell strangers where I work. 20 years ago it wasn't uncommon for people who worked in research to have to move on a regular basis because of groups like ALF.

I work in medical research. I'm not afraid to say it, because being afraid is what opponents want me to be. What I do is not pretty, it's not clean and it tests my morals on a regular basis. But I continue to do what I do because I don't know if the next person hired to do my job will approach it with the same care. My job is to be an advocate for the animals in the facility I work at. Sometimes that includes doing things I would rather not because I'm competent will take care of the handling of the animal and I don't know that someone else would take that same care.

I'm also not afraid to answer questions so long as they don't compromise my safety or my employers safety. I also have to take care not to reveal projects in the works. But I can openly talk about animal care, housing and standard procedures.

I don't like cosmetic testing. I really don't. There are alternatives they can use to make sure the eyeliners and shadows I put on my face are safe. In fact, I try to only buy from cosmetic companies that don't test. Leaping Bunny sent me a brochure that I carry in my purse when I shop.

As for medical testing, I agree it HAS to be done.
Insulin is a BIG example of this.
Honestly, PETA has to have a huge impact on how people think on this. Most of them won't do their own research or bother to take in another opinion once they hear PETA's. I'm almost absolutely sure any credible medical research facility will take the best care possible while these animals are under them. Even if the test can be harsh....

I'm no expert on the medical side or the cosmetic side. Just have done more research on the cosmetic testing.

I would sacrifice 1000 rats to cure my Mother's Cancer

I would sacrifice 100 dogs, 100 cats, to cure my Mother's Cancer

I would sacrifice Dolphins, Monkeys, Sharks, to cure my Mother's Cancer

I would sacrifice unborn, aborted, fetuses, to cure my Mother's Cancer

Would I sacrifice another person to cure my Mother's Cancer? Would You watch someone you hold dear to you, suffer from one of the most painful terminal illnesses there are?

Just out of curiosity, what tests your morals exactly? And what is tested on?

I assume things must be done humanely now in any research facility that is legal and supervised by some organization such as the USDA.

Cancer is one of the few diseases helping with our population. I would hate it if a cure was found.

You say that now, but wait until you find yourself in the shoes of someone with cancer, or someone who's going through watching it. Maybe you don't have somebody you love in your life. Maybe you'll never get married and see a spouse suffer. Maybe you don't have parents. Or maybe you just don't feel the strength of what love is. You must be very young and naive.

But I don't think you realize we have our own population control.

Disease, Genocide, Murder, Accidents, War, Abortion, Suicide, Hunger, etc;.

Cancer only stands for 22.5% of deaths in the United States.

imagine if a cure were found, we'd no longer be throwing billions of dollars into finding a damn cure. Those billions of dollars could be fixing the ******** up money problem in the world.

We're not over populated by any means, either. So finding a cure for cancer tomorrow wouldn't mean that the next baby boom causes everyone to be screwed over and be over populated.

Every day I think of my Mother suffering, is another day i'll be willing to sacrifice for my Mother. I was willing to donate -anything- out of my body for my Mother---if it had meant it would extend her life. But when they said the cancer was too far progressed, I just have to wish and wish every day.

I know she's a troll~ But always gotta get my word out there to them. I really think this one is an ignorant child and by that I mean she's very sheltered and hasn't grown up yet. From a photo she posted she looks about 12/13. (No offense, I know you're young too, but there is a huge difference)

So, by us regs throwing the truth out there she can perhaps become cultured in something that is the real world.

I remember when I was younger, I thought animal testing was awful and that diseases were good because it had population control. I really thought that. Then I grew up and looked around at the world to see that it has it's own natural population control, and diseases are not a natural part of it. More or less something humans caused, along with other things like murder/accidents of our own creation. When I was younger I also watched my Gram die of the same cancer my Mom has, but she died 4 days after being diagnosed. I thank God every day for how far Science has come in the past 10 years.

I'm a huge advocate for testing if it's for the good of humans, especially loved ones. I can be cold hearted honestly when it comes to other people, but there are some things that really need to be done in life.

Of course i'd never want my pets used for testing. But honestly, a pet is replaceable, an animal can be replaced, but a Mother, a Father, a Sibling, can not. If it meant I had to give up my pets, i'd do it. I've lost my Dad in the last year, and my Mom is having the battle of her life. I'd do anything to go back in time and prevent all of it.
