Due to my absence, I owe ya this: Another idea.

This is a stretch, but what about an effect similar to a burst. That is, have the backpack opened with stuff bursting out, perhaps in the form of an angelic plume, or a swarm of little wings flying out. Perhaps this lends itself to another way to use it, as in the many ways to use the four horsemen. What if the backpack could be held open in the hands, with such a burst coming out to form something, from an elaborate plume to some new kind of pet...
