Frontier Skies Gloomy

Frontier Skies has been down for a bit now and after an exploit investigation and other factors explained below, I'm sorry to say we don't intend to bring it back.

We initially took it down due to a serious exploit we intended to fix. However, further investigation into the exploit showed that a fix would require a major rewrite of the game. The exploit, in addition to an extremely low number of users who were actually playing the game, and the other bugs in the game would simply require more resources to fix and maintain than we are currently able to commit to it.

I know we said we would bring the game back and make it a permanent site feature, and apologize deeply to those of you playing or intending to play the game. However, knowing that we won't be able to maintain it, we feel it is better to remove it than leave it as a broken feature sitting on the site.

I also apologize that we haven't said anything about all this earlier. After our initial investigations I got busy and forgot to post this update >.<

Over the next few weeks, we’ll remove the links to the game from the site and archive the forum.

Now I am sure anyone who has been on gaia for a couple of years, or even some of you newbies who played it when it got put back on the website know of Frontier Skies.
Frontier Skies was the summer event of 2k10 and it certainly was an event unlike the crappy excuses for events we get these days.
You may not know this but wing stickers originated in Frontier Skies. The event went for 32 days and that is why one of the first items in The Treehouse costs 32 stickers.
Frontier Skies was an event that everyone was enjoying, throughout the bugs and the death moth everyone wanted to beat it with Carl as their guide. Unfortunately the hunting bug stopped a lot of Gains from doing that and was never fixed even after the game was brought back to Gaia in 2011.

Now we get to the point.
Frontier Skies was a game on gaia that was well liked, there arte even Lets Plays on youtube for it. When it was still an event everyone was exited and some people were playing the game every day up until it was taken off Gaia.
I was overjoyed when Frontier Skies came back and I played it whenever I had time until the hunting bug stopped me from doing that.
In the Frontier Skies forum there are multiple threads saying they don't want Frontier Skies to go. So Gaia, here are our demands.
Bring Frontier Skies back without any rewards. Leave it as a game you can not gain anything from but enjoyment, this will stop it from being exploited. As for the bugs, can the effort not be put in to fix them when the staff have time? Gaia is always churning out new features it seems not many people want so what is wrong with maintaining an old one that Gaia does want?
You are not just removing a game, you are removing a part of Gaia's history. What is next? Jigsaw? Word Bump? Fishing?
Our demands are plain and simple

I remember a few years ago Gaia released a game for downloading starring Sen and Overseer. You didn't win any gold or items and it was just a fun little thing. I'd love it if they could do something like that for Frontier Skies, just so we could still play it and all their hard work on it wouldn't go to waste.

I think it's cool that they are coming out with a Frontier Skies card game. But I'm not much of a card player beyond blackjack and poker in general. I want to play Frontier Skies online again.
It was one of the best games on Gaia. Tied with zOMG, and I certainly played Frontier Skies more often than zOMG.
I thus sign this petition to bring back the online version of Frontier Skies.

I, SkyesStrife, also sign this petition. Please bring back Frontier Skies. I actually left when it was first removed because I was so disappointed. I heard it was back and returned only to find it had just been removed once again. At the very least, leave the version that has the problem until you get the time to fix it, so that you don't deprive your loyal Gaians any longer.

I, Danilo Isaia sign this petition. Frontier Skies was a very impressive game, that deserves a place in gaia, even if it was not as widely played as the other games. Ask almost anyone, and they will recall fond memories of their player coming down with a case of rocket butt, or harvesting a crew member for 50 lbs. of meat. I myself played it every once in a while, but I still played it more then the other games on gaia. Aside from Zomg, there aren't other games that I actually want to play on gaia. I am not satisfied with the newer games of gaia.

I was very disappointed when I heard the news, even thinking of leaving gaia. The only things that keep me here are the forums. The games are overrated and unappealing, and the good things that are brought in are "too much trouble to fix".

I appreciate all that the gaia Devs do, and I know that their job is hard, but this is something they need to fix. Why keep bringing in new games, only to neglect the old? Even if many aspects of the game would need to be changed, even if it had to go as far as taking out the ability to earn gold, that would be better then simply removing the game. It's better then an empty space in the classic game category, once filled by an amazing adventure game.

Please, bring back Frontier Skies, we can suck it up and earn a little less gold. We already don't earn gold from many of the newer games.

I think they had to remove it because of bugs they couldn't fix anymore. That sounds lame... They created it once so why not create version 1.1 now. Kick out Monster Galaxy, or that stupid omgpop, or Resort World or even ZOMG if you want to but bring back Frontier Skies.

I'm definitely signing. Frontier Skies was the only Gaia game I ever cared to play. I might have not played it all the time, but I don't play Kingdom Hearts all the time, either. Or Zelda. Or The World Ends With You. Or Pokemon. Or any other game I love. It doesn't mean I love them any less.

Frontier Skies was a joy to play. The deaths were random and funny, the hunting system was enjoyable, and it kept my attention for longer than most Gaia games do. I sign happily.
