I find it really depressing that Gaia has their own creative team--and they can't be original.

Haha, I remember the outrage when screenshots of these were first posted on mspa-related forums. Unfortunately, Gaia does this with pretty much anything popular. This normally doesn't matter for things like books and videogames, but Homestuck is not corporate or a profit-making venture. For Gaia to make items - that you must pay for with real money, no less - taking advantage of that goodwill is pretty offensive.
