I am RABIDLY AGAINST SMOKING and tobacco in real life, but... I'm gonna sign this petition!
I SEE NO LOGICAL REASON FOR REMOVING PICTURES OF TOBACCO FROM THE SITE. PICTURES CANNOT KILL YOU. PICTURES CANNOT GIVE YOU CANCER. PICTURES WILL NOT MAKE A CHILD SMOKE (unless they're an idiot, and then the blame should be on the PARENTS for not raising their child right).
This is NOT about health, this is about FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION.
Repeal this ban, Gaia. It's the stupidest thing I think I've ever seen you do.

Please bring back these items!
First off, I would like that thank the gaia staff for trying to make gaia a better place, however this recent announcement has been brought to my attention. They have unjustly ( and I might even dare to say they've taken away our rights to freely express ourselves through our avatars ) banned the items which tie into smoking, and I just don't agree with this notion.

While I don't really know gaia's greatest concern with these items, I have thought up of a few of what their arguments might be-- and rebuttals!

How gaia might feel:
Gaia might feel that by selling smoking related items, they are promoting it ( perhaps even to a younger generation of children:
While I see this concern, I believe this is a PG-13 site for a reason. These smoking items do not violate the TOS, and people have the right to freely express themselves through their avatars any way they wish ( as long as it does not violate gaia's terms of service ... which I don't see how it can, since THEY supplied it ). If young people ( under the age of thirteen ) do not abide by the rules of gaia, we, the gaians who generally support and cherish this site, should not be punished. Everyone thirteen and up ( and even some younger people ) have probably already been introduced to smoking ( or the concept thereof ).

Well, uhh, okay. Most people should realize that INDEED these are JUST pixels. Many people who equipt a smoking item on their avatar don't smoke in real lives, themselves. They are simply trying to balance colors on their avatar effectively.

As already mentioned, many people use these items to balance their avatars and arrangement of colors. They are already a limited number of items on gaia as it is ( though, I'm not complaining about the limit, I realize it takes a lot of time and effort to create new ones, I just don't believe you should ban or disable whatever items we had access to ), and since we lack the ability, resources, and knowledge, to create our own items each individually, I feel that you staff members of gaia, should not ban or remove the use of item such as these.

By banning the items you're not stopping people from doing such things in real life. In fact, you're probably just upsetting people ( actually not probably, YOU ARE ). ( I mean, remember what happened in the 1920's when the government banned the selling, producing, and transportation of alcohol? ( which you're basically doing now with items ) That didn't end very well. Many of the population of gaia are descendants of these upset people ). Plus, just by banning it on this site, they are still getting it from other sources of media. One of these main things being their peers. Really honestly, I think you gaia, should be focusing on something not as trivial, but something that really doesn't depend on each of us individually like the equality of others ( I mean, we don't choose whether or not we get picked on, whereas most of the people who smoke, choose to do so for one reason or another ).

I don't even smoke and my avatar hasn't had a cig, cigar, or pipe either, but I still sign. I think this whole thing started because of the description of the cig.

I don't understand. It's the user's choice to consider smoking or not. Just because Gaia doesn't like tobacco doesn't mean they should take that right away from their users who do not own a cig, cigar, or pipe.
If Gaia really wanted to say smoking is not sexy, they could have just changed the description of the cig:

A thin cigarette imported from a far away land. They are addictive and bad for your health but make you incredibly sexy.

changing it to:

A thin cigarette imported from a far away land. They are addictive and bad for your health.

And yeah, there are a ton more influential, and suggestive, items on here than a tiny clump of pixels. confused
Those items are usually just for cosplay too, isn't that one of the aspects of Gaia?
