Alsoly, I have a suggestion:

The Tokoloshe, which is an African...myth? I dunno.

They were summoned by shamans as a means of punishment, I'm thinking.

Mebbe a Tokoloshe beside your avvie, or climbing on your avvie?

I also have a recommendation to add.

How about Sedna, the Inuit Goddess of the sea? I the tale's she has her fingers cut off and shaman have to untangle her mess of hair in order to appease her.

So maybe avi's with their bloody stubs on their hands and a giant mess of half-braided hair? She a sea goddess so you could have maybe being eaten by a shark.
