Say I were to go to this website.... http://www.planetrenders.net/

That site has a ton of renders, and I use them often. They put them up there for anyone to use. Frankly, if I am going to use a render of Sonic the Hedgehog and I have to ask Sega....I HIGHLY doubt they would respond to me. They've got better things to do than answer a question from a little graphic artist.

Also, the c4ds are put up there for people to use, or else they would not be added to the site, now would they?

Ok. So. I have a question. Kinda taken for granted since I'm posting here -- BUT STILL. (actually, it's a few questions.)

1. If I were to start up a graphics shop, and tell them that they have to supply their own images as well as get the permission for it, would that be ok? Because like stated before, it's not really going to be on someone's high priority list to answer my question if I could use they're picture. So if they give me a picture and I state in my rule that I 'assume' they've gotten permission and if they didn't, blame falls on them, would this be ok?

2. Also. If I start a freebie board. Would I still need to ask the permission? It's not for profit. It's just people requesting and me making, no profit intended.

But yeah. Tres confusing this is, but I'll deal. I still don't get why it's such a big deal. T^T; You sell a little banner and what's Sega gonna do, make a Gaia account and take half your gold?

I don't understand it either. I mean, not to be offensive to anyone, but the GFX here look like s**t because we can't use any renders from games and stuff. What the hell are we supposed to use, ya know what I mean? = .= ;

- this also includes sites such as animewallpaper.com or animerender.com. You need the permission of the artist/company that owns it. Just because it's free to download does not mean you can make a profit off of them.

What the hell? >.> Like I said before, no one is going to answer us. I understand the logic behind this and that if you don't take care of it the site can be sued...but is all this really necessary? Everything looks like s**t IMO because we can't use renders.

Sorry if this has been answered before, what happens if I take a photo of something I didn't make,, like I have a wolf statue in my bedroom,, would I need to contact the people that made the wolf statue? o.0

I know it said photos taken by us are allowed, but the thing in the photo, does that have to be made by us too?

If the site states you can take their images and use them without asking permission (otherwise: free to take) then yes you can take them.

No they would probably not respond to you, unless you were a little graphic artist from a big company. But gaia is a big company (not sure if they are a company or organisation per say) and they could possibly get in trouble for allowing you to "sell" copyrighted material. Will gaia freak out on you for using something you don't own? Probably not unless you were reported for it. But you still should try and avoid using what you don't own as much as possible.

@le fair: If someone on deviantart was making a significant amount of money off a copyrighted character, and they got noticed by the copyright holder then they could ask deviantart to close their account, or they may even take the user to court. Does anyone on deviantart make enough money for the company to aactueally take legal action? Nope, so they won't complain.

It is illegal though, it is called copyright infringement.

You took the photo therefore you own the photo and can do with it as you wish.

@hikArU_onzE: Yes you can sell your self made banners here. Just try not to use images that you don't own in the image.
