Welcome to Gaia! ::

If the image you're using is under creative commons for simply Attribution (commercial use is allowed, derivative works allowed, and you don't have to share alike) do you still need written permission from the artist?

I have recently set up a profile board, and one of my customers sent me an image off some website. So I know i couldnt use that

then he sent me a pm with two more images, one which he states he drew. and one his friend drew. I have no idea how to get proof of that, one of the images has by: _____ and I tried looking the user up, as he states its his friend, and it wasnt found. said he quit two years ago or something..

i have no clue what to do. gonk I think I just might have to break down and tell him I cannot use it. Because I have no way to prove that that is his and his friends work >.> (and the way he told me i think he is lieing)

I have no idea where this goes. but since this board is about this topic I thought here x'D

Sorry, this is a really stupid question, but can you edit images (say of a gaia avatar) on photobucket and use them?

off a website,did he ask permission?
do NOT approve it.if he threatens you,ignore him.
you do not wanna violate the rules,nor if your not sure,and have no proof,
don't do it.
I have ONE question:Can we use photo's off photobucket if we ask permission of the owner who owns the website? or do we ask permission of the person who published it?

O;
What if you were selling your animating skills. Such as the customers give you images to animate to make an icon. But you have no way of knowing if the images were illegal or not. You just animated them into an icon for the customer. Is that illegal?
Hi I'm new how can I pay for the artworks? crying

      If you don't know where they're from I suggest that you don't use them, because if the original owner did not allow use of the image in commercial work, then it would be illegal to use it. You can't tell whether they did or not, but it's better safe than sorry.
Just to be sure, can you use the names of bands? Like you make an icon [with the bands name on it].
Is that 'legal' or will I get banned?
are we allowed to have a picture that we found of google images?
What about a place like www.planetrenders.com ? I get stuff from that to make signatures. The website is meant for you to get these renders and make signatures with them and I'm guessing they have permission already to use as for us too. So is it ok?

You may NOT:

* Use banner makers, blinkie makers or any other makers, except Gaia avatar makers since they make use of Gaia's graphics.

* Use or offer to use images eg. anime, movie, game characters without permission from the copyright holder or the artist who drew them. Just stating "Images owned by Fox" or similar is not good enough.

- this includes scans, screenshots or other similar images, even if you took the screenshot yourself or bought the book/magazine etc that you scanned the image from, you STILL need permission.

- this also includes sites such as animewallpaper.com or animerender.com. You need the permission of the artist/company that owns it. Just because it's free to download does not mean you can make a profit off of them.

* Use stock images without permission from the person who took them

* Use any photobucket, google or other similar images without permission of the artist/company that owns them. Asking the person who uploaded it does not count as they do not have the authority to give you permission, unless they made the image themselves.

* Use traced, copied or eyeballed images

does this include MS paint?

what if you drew the image yourself?-> but the image is of an anime char. ? -> naruto?(for example)

what if its one of the common found images that's basically impossibly to track down the owner from? or if you used one of the common photos, and edited it alot. would that not be making it your own work?

what is an 'eyeballed' image?

PS - The pdphoto link does not work.
