Welcome to Gaia! ::

So if someone were to edit sprites from a game to look like Gaian avatars, they would not be permitted to sell these in a forum shop without the publishers' permission? Would they be allowed to make these images if they had no intention of selling them for gold? And lastly, would the person be allowed to distribute the edited sprites in a thread if they were not selling them?

Thanks!
You cannot sell them, but you can edit them for free and you are allowed to distribute the sprites for free. ^^

Thank you so much. n_n

Oh! While I'm here, is it true that it is against the ToS to "necromance" a thread? And if so, would anyone know how long the thread has to be inactive before it is considered "necroing" it (kinda off topic, I know, but I've never gotten a straight answer on this. >_<;)?

Necro-ing can be considered spam, but it's unique in each case. If I were a shop owner, and I put the shop on hiatus, necro-ing it would be alright regardless of time frame if I was planning on resuming business. However, if I was a customer or a random user and I decided to post, then that would be considered spam. Time frame... I would say about a month.... but each case will be viewed individually.
Okay, thx for the time and info =)
I know what I can and can't do in his shop now. ^^

Thanks for the useful information.
Are you allowed to use lunapic.com to put an animation together?
Like, I would make 5/6 different animation slides on photoshop, then I would go on lunapic and put them together to make an animation.
Or is that not allowed?

Ok isn't "eyballed" art Fan Art? Like, I drew a picture of Sonic the hedghog in a pose from a video game book, freehand. But I put him on a skateboard based on some other images. The pic took up the whole paper, proof that it was't just copied. Can companies actually own a pose? confused

I would say a simple animation is ok, but any of the more complicated ones like the Hearts Animation would not be ok, as they are more like generators which aren't allowed in Mini Shops.

Eyeballing is ok for you to do if you're learning to draw, or drawing for friends or yourself. It is not ok if you plan to sell to others as the work is not wholly yours since you are taking a large portion of the drawing from something which already exists in a copyrighted image. Poses cannot be copyrighted of course, but there are several ways of drawing a pose so when one looks identical to another right down to the lines and angle of perception, then it's not allowed in Mini Shops.

I can understand that I suppose. Thank you totorochic.
I've seen some shops that will do work for real money, is that allowed?

You can say you are taking commissions for actual money, but you can't state your prices or take real life commissions on Gaia. The most you're allowed to do is link to an off-site page such as a Livejournal entry or deviantART entry and that's it. The focus of the thread must remain with gaia gold purchases.
I used brushes from many sites which i remember, on the site the users want me to name them but my computer bookmarks got wiped out and I forget their names DX What should I do...Do I have to name them?

Well, my question is, how would I give credit and such if the image is a screenshot from a movie? I changed the picture a bit, adding effects, text, etc, but I know it's still not my photo. So how do I make sure it is 'legal' or whatever, so It can be put into the profile? Because I plan to commision someone to do a profile, with this image as the top picture.

Would I contact the film company to ask to use it in a profile on a site or something?
It doesn't seem like that's what everyone does when they make a profile with a public image on it.
I am planning to open up an AMV shop and I am kinda wondering if that'd be okay. There isn't another one so it's not like I can see how they are doing.

Basically what I plan to do is take requests on making an AMV in exchange for gold ((200-400g; still deciding)). An AMV is an Anime music video, for those who don't know ((surprisingly alot of people don't know that)) in which I use clips I download from the internet and place them together with a song in Microsoft Movie Maker. From there I upload them to a video uploading site and let the requester know it's finished.

Still unsure? Here is a link to a website where I have a few AMV's posted; don't plan on using that one to uploading the requester's AMV's since you can only embed videos from Youtube. ((Can't stand them and Google!)) And don't worry, I made those a few months ago and placed them on Youtube, I wouldn't embed anything I didn't make myself.

Don't want to be breaking any rules; I love Gaia too much to do that. So basically my question is if I'll be breaking a rule if I use anime clips and a song. Technically I consider this parody stuff, and parodies aren't blocked by copyright infringement laws.

Unfortunately, yes. You do have to provide credit to any outside sources that you use. Some brush sites also don't allow people to use their tools/resources for commissions and profit.

If you do not have the links to the brush-sites any longer, I would simply advise you to not use those brushes. 3nodding heart
