Where is it that you live? Where I live, I also have to pay before I see a doctor. Everything
costs money here, but with health insurance, you usually only have to pay a small co-pay
amount. So when I see a doctor, I basically pre-pay for my visit, then I see the doctor, and
then I leave. I would also have to pay for hospital or emergency room visits, but my health
insurance would cover a great deal of the cost. In that case, though, you'd either be sent a
bill or have to pay before you leave.

Same thing here... although it isn't that usual for everyone to have a health insurance...

outpatient waiting room at the hospital. They
took my Pax away in her ittle surgery gurney
chariot, and gave me a pager so I know when
she's done and I get to talk to the surgeon. They
have a pretty cool status board like the ones
at the airport, but instead of arrival gates it
shows where she's at in the process, so I can
watch it like a twitchy, nervous psycho and wait.

I'm on my tablet so it's not very easy to quote
people, but once we're back at home and she's
sleeping all this nonsense off, rest assured that
I will be taking care of business. *cracks knuckles*
