Content
"What can we post?"
In general what can be posted are topics related to performing arts, such as dance, music or theater. This can be related to: acting, dancing, directing, stage crew, producing, choir or anything else that involves entertaining an audience. Specifically it needs to be plays, recitals, shows, etc that you yourself are participating in.

Example of topics NOT forum related:
"Has anyone seen Phantom of the Opera?"
"What is your favorite Shakespeare play turned movie?"
"Who would make a good Phantom?"

Example of topics that ARE forum related:
"I auditioned for Phantom of the Opera..."
"I'm planning on directing a summer Shakespeare..."
"Has anyone played Phantom?"

In other words... this is a forum for performers to discuss their craft, not for the audience to make observations on someone else's performance, unless it is to ask a specific related to performance production. (ie, Where does all the smoke on the stage come from?)

The proper place to discuss:
Your favorite actor, movie or play - The Entertainment Forum
Your favorite song or singer - The Music Forum
PLEASE always read the stickies of a forum before posting.

Chatting vs. Discussion
The Performing Arts forum is a discussion based forum... meaning chatting isn't really welcome here. Occasionally discussions may warrant a one liner response, but in general they should be thoughtful and add to the conversation. Replying with "LOL!" doesn't really contribute much of anything and may be deleted due to being "spam." If a discussion thread has too much chat, it may be moved to the recycle bin or chatterbox. The only exception to this is a forum chat thread... a single thread created to build a sense of forum community. Only one is allowed to exist, since in general, they defy forum rules.

Rants
Rants don't belong in discussion based forums. They have no real discussion value, except to have a lot of people state, "I agree" or "It's alright." Emotions are already pretty high in a rant thread, so people who disagree in thread are likely to get flamed which violates the Terms of Service. The place for rants is chatterbox or recycle bin. If any rants appear here, they will be moved and the content dealt with if it becomes enflamed. A way to constructively deal with frustrations is to make it into a discussion.

Example of a rant topic:
"OMG! I was CUT from the show! Does anyone else HATE directors?"
This is directed at directors for cutting... and serves no purpose but to show anger towards directors.
Example of a discussion topic:
"Have you ever been cut from a show? If so, how did you deal with it?"
This asks advice on how to deal with frustrations resulting from being cut. It's not directing anger at anyone.

Thread Necromancing
Necromancing is to give animation to the dead. The Performing Arts forum is a very slow moving forum. Many times all the topics you could possibly want to reply to are listed on the first two pages. Subjects past those first two or three pages may be months old. Their discussion has already hit its prime and faded away. If a topic has long since been dead, allow it to rest in peace and make a newer, more exciting and energetic topic to take its place. There's no need to bring up topics that have been gone for two months or more. Most likely the play or event that was being discussed has long since happened.

Bumping
The purpose of a bump is to bring a topic to the top of the forum. Since the forum is so slow, a topic can hang there for days or even weeks. There is no need to bring it up any higher... not unless a subject is still discussable and is in danger of becoming a dead topic. Bumping is better suited for faster forums such as Chatterbox, the Exchange or Minishops. Here in Performing Arts it is considered spam. People who insist on spamming even after warnings may be banned.

Repeat Threads
When posting, please be sure to look in at all the threads on the first few pages that may have something to do with what you want to ask or say and try posting in them before you make your own topic. But due to the nature of the forum and the fact that everyone is an individual and their experiences are all unique, most threads created in this forum are not considered repeat threads. There may be 10 posts about dancing, but those posts may range in actual topic from auditioning for a dancing role to asking for advice on how to find a good studio. The only real exception to this would be general threads asking for general answers... a dance thread that says, "I like to dance... anyone else like to dance?" But that topic can very easily be changed into non-general by adding just a few details, "I like to dance the tango... are there other tango dancers out there?" With the addition of tango a general thread has become a specific unique thread. Just be sure to look through other topics to make sure someone else didn't create the exact same tango topic.
