Welcome to Gaia! ::

Why can't I belt sing or even sing powerfully in my chest voice anymore? One time, when I had a really bad cold, I was able to belt sing without it sounding shouty or going into my head voice. I didn't have any tension in my throat when I sang and I wasn't too nasally, despite the fact that I was sick. I want to be able to sing like this again:

Listen to the notes around 22-25 seconds. I want to be able to sing like that again.

By the way, I've been singing for nine years and I've taken voice lessons, as well. Oh, and I'm a soprano.

Additional Details
This is how I want to sing, but recently, I haven't been able to sing like I did in this video (without a microphone).

Voices change over time. Could be just a case of that.

Sounds to me kinda like you're straining your voice a bit. Could be that too.

Or might be a case of the fact that you're a soprano singing an alto song. I knew a girl who constantly used to do the opposite (Alto trying to sing soprano), and she ended up wrecking her voice, and can't even sing in her own range anymore.

I think it sounded strained because I was sick. I don't think it has anything to do with singing an alto song because I can go as low as an alto, but my teacher just has me sing soprano. And I don't think my voice has changed because I made that video only two weeks ago. But the straining thing could have something to do with it because I'm getting sick again.
It may be that the mucus in your lungs made you breathe differently. Are you supporting yourself when you sing?

And some people just don't have powerful voices. I'm a spinto, I can't sing soubrette. A soubrette couldn't sing spinto.

It might have been the mucus because I could barely talk without having to clear my throat that day. I do support myself when I sing, but it seems like the more I try to use my stomach to support my voice, the weaker it sounds. I sometimes have a really powerful voice and don't need a microphone, but other times, I'm really quiet for no apparent reason (I sing the exact same way I do when I sound powerful, but my voice just sounds weaker for some reason).
If it's only been two weeks, I wouldn't be too worried about it, because it's probably just that your throat is tired from being sick. Believe me, it could be worse, and I'm sure that it will pass. Try not singing too much or too loudly for a little while (unless you have a performance) and try to let your throat heal. And drink lots of water. That helps everything.
there could be many reasons, one possibly your voice could be going through changes. or you could still be fighting off some bug. sleep, drink tea, dont eat ice cream, and all that fun stuff

I don't know what rock you're living under but she is far from being the worst singer in the world. She needs work but everyone should always strive for improvement.

OP: It could also be your placement. The voice needs room to resonate. Lift your palate and drop your jaw. Play around with how different positions make different sounds. You'll feel it when you've got it right.

Seriously! That's a horrible thing to say to someone! She's better than a lot of people I've heard! And who are you to compare her to youself of all people?!

I say try working a bit more on breath support. I heard a couple of spots when your voice began to faulter a bit. Most of all, relax. I found that if you force yourself too hard to project or "belt" you end up straining you voice more than anything. Just relax and probably let you voice rest for maybe a week or too.
If you're singing correctly (posture, use of diaphragm, positioning of tongue and mouth) there shouldn't be a problem once you get rid of your cold.
Honestly, it's probably just that you're agitating mucus in your vocal folds when you sing. Give your voice a rest, drink lots of warm water, gargle sat water, use saline nose spray, or use a personal vaporizer/steam tent. All of those help tremendously.
