The Phantom isn't a bad guy, he's misunderstood. He's a crazy stalker because that's the only way he can get someone to "love" him. And he didn't die, he just dissapeared, or rather, left the Opera house. Andrew Lloyd Webber was going to make a sequel where the Phantom ends up in New York city (thank God he didn't).

Actually he did die if we are going to be talking about the real story by Gaston Leroux and the other two musicals one by Ken Hill and the other by Yeston and Kroppit. ALW decided to change that part so the end was more hopeful I guess or just because ALW is an idiot one of the two. Otherwise you got his character pretty dead on. Also to add to your point the phantom only acts that way because he was never taught the social norms in life. Remember he was always treated cruelly and looked down upon because of his disfigurement imagine what that would do to a person's psyche.

Sadly ALW is still in the works for the sequel. Basically its about Erik (the phantom) moving to New York and owning a freak show (can anyone say out of character?), Christine having his child and Raoul turning out to literally be the pansy eunuch we always knew he was.

@ Pat - You say that the Phantom never supported Christine and yet he is the one that taught her to sing you think she just started out that great um NO! He nursed her into the great singer that she became. Also he was there for her as a father figure after her father died and played the role of the angel so as not to crush her dreams rather then come right out and show her he was just a man.

Not the support thing I ment. So, he taught her to be the greatest opera singer, ever. Then, he seduced her with his music, and he showed her a life-sized doll in a wedding gown, that looked just like her. The doll tried to grab her, then Christine fainted. The next morning, she starting about the mask he's wearing around his face. So, she sneaked behind him and took his mask off, and then, his face was deformed, he started chasing her around his lair, and the two ended on the floor, and the Phantom said,"Christine, I love you." Sobbing, then Christine gave back his mask, and took her back to the surface. One night, Christine wanted to show Raoul her angel of music, but his didn't believe. He told her he will always love her and see her after the endings of the shows. They shared a passionate kiss. The Phantom overheard the two, he was heartbroken, to realize that Raoul was there to hear her sing. His sorrow turned to rage. When Christine took a bow, he send a mighty chandelier crashing down on the stage during the curtain call.

Yes, Pat. We all know the plot of the story. Except Christine taking Raoul to see her angel mof music. She wasn't taking him up to the roof to get to Erik, she was running away from him.

Again, all you did was summarize part of the plot. You didn't even back up your argument.

Raoul and the police go over instructions to trap the Phantom. Raoul instructs a marksman hiding in the orchestra pit to kill the Phantom, and the police set out to bar all of the exits. The voice of the Phantom is heard, taunting them. He appears in Box Five but vanishes as the marksman fires. Raoul rounds on him, but the Phantom interrupts, insisting they show the play as usual *"Don Juan"*.
