Welcome to Gaia! ::

lets dance to joy division,
and celebrate the irony,
everything is going wrong,
but were so happy,

So i need help in picking a monologue to present ^___^;

the character has to:
-be around my age [18]
-preferably female or an androgynous part
-have a strong objective
-have something happening in the moment (not talking about the past, present/active)
-modern (no shakespeare)

any suggestions?

okay, i finished my monologue :]
thanks for the suggestions though!
but feel free to continue discussing monologues ^____^

*discuss monologues you have done in the past and techniques/ experiences youve had :]

lets dance to joy division,
and raise our glass to the ceiling,
cause this could all go so wrong,
but were just so happy,
yeah were so happy :]
You might try Brighton Beach Memoirs. The daughter has a monologue somewhere near the end of the play if I remember correctly.

I would head on down to your library and take out some monologue books. Read through them and find one that appeals to you, they're likely to all be good ones. Just make sure that they come from actual plays, rather than just made up from nowhere. And always read the play so you know what the context of it is.

How modern? Because Anhiouls did a version of Antigone in the, I believe 1940's, that was really amazing and there is a great monologue Antigone says to her uncle at the very end. She's about nineteen or twenty, so that's within your age range, I think and she's fighting for her life, I can't imagine a stronger objective than that. It's really a wonderful monologue, I myself am doing it for an audition. It's a very good play and even though it's a heavy monologue, I had a lot of fun working with it. Maybe you would too.
anything in guys and dolls is pretty amazing. there's loads of monologues - i did one where this girl is talking about how she got pregnant because she wanted something to love her, but when the baby cries it doesn't love her so she shakes it. pretty freaky stuff.

I love doing Monologues! smile
Well, which one did you do? How did it go?

a short monologue by moll to garth in kid simple by jordan harrison :]

its a scene where she had her prized invention stolen by garth whom she may have feelings for. but shes super angry at that moment and wants him to suffer endlessly :0

i did better than i thought actually. the beats took me a while to get, but when the day came to preform i got it just right!

i chose it cause i wanted to work on being angry at someone. i usually play calm, lovestruck, or comedic parts so i thought it would be a challenge ^___^
