You just have to spend a lot of time thinking 'what would my character do.' "Why would my character do that? What actions and life experiences have caused my character to do this?'

Which character are you having trouble with?

Oh. Well. Then that thing I said before. Lots of psychoanalysis.

Acting is action.

You can make better informed actions by doing the research your role requires. Understanding the given circumstances your character has will help you live in the world that person inhabits. Then you make decisions based on your life in that world. Then you fill your actions with the inner life of that character.

Do not overthink it though. When you think about what you're doing and how things are looking onstage, you're not acting. You're working as a carefully choreographed meat puppet.
Use yourself in the character. Know what you bring to the table, what parts of you are similar to the character, etc. You don't always have to think "How would my character react to this?" but know how you would react to it. Now, of course it depends on the character, but a great way to really make them human is to motivate their actions through how someone (you) would really react.
It might not always work, but keep it in mind.

Well come some questions you may ask yourself will be

Why Im here? (Main history)
Is there something I need to do? (Pretty much how you will end up your history)
What else I need to do? (Is there something else behind the history)
Is really that important? (The pressure on you)
How I can reach that objective? (Conflicts)
Is there any chances to get it right? (It would be hard to do your main task)
Is there some rival that wants me to fall? (Anti Hero you must create one)
Im able to beat him? (Makes the history more Instrusting)
If not what I can do? (If you fail there will be any hope?)
Is there a way I can beat him? (Your main objective to pass over him/her, of course wont be easy)
What If I can`t? (I be able to still complete my main objective)
What if I fail? (Even if the fail what you can do)
Is there any pressure? (Pretty much, is there alot of stuff going againts you)
What makes my rival special? (Details about your rival)
What makes me special so I can beat him? (Details about you, but is better if you keep it as a secret)

Well thats the basic hero vs anti hero thing is just generic but you have to empathy your character as your character.

Thats the key word empathy your character and what you would do.
