Angels and Demons Prologue

Prologue

Sometime in the near future, where war finally came to a halt and a brief moment of peace reigned between countries. People would go on with their everyday lives since much excitement in the world had died with the last war. Violence was far and in between thanks to the new laws and government structure rebuilt by the last president. The cities grew as advance technology of economic and environmentally friendly machines were made. Famine in the world is close to being extinct along with third world countries. It was getting to the point where nuclear projects are close to being discontinued and many other weapons shut down.

It seemed our age was going to see the coming of harmony. Sadly, this story isn’t about how the Earth turned soft. It began in the United States as always. Up in the concrete jungle packed with people going through their businesses known as New York. It isn’t as hard as it use to be. Most people wore smiles and had a show of courtesy and manners. Of course the streets were as noisy as ever. Out of the whole city one man will be the first to make the greatest and most horrible discovery of their time. He walked out from under a hotdog stand and looked up.

He was looking across the harbor and on the other side was the statue of liberty. On the tip of its flame was a dark figure he could not recognize at all. He called to others to see if they knew what was up. But they didn’t as more people gathered and looked on to the mysterious figure. More gathered until it attracted the attention of officers. Taking great caution they called in units and soon a helicopter flew into the scene. What they saw was beyond belief. A man, dressed like an angel of some sort. His upper body was bare but his lower draped by a long cloth of white rimmed with sky blue. What were most extraordinary were the huge white wings attached to his back.

The chopper did its best to get close but they couldn’t. For some reason as much as the pilot tried he could not fly towards him. It gone on for a while until they decided to return to headquarters as the media sprang in to action. Something bizarre and strange happening after a long time of peace was something they couldn’t pass up. As they placed the man on national TV, he wasn’t the only one.

Around the world there were reports of strange beings mirroring the most famous beings of the bible. Angels and Demons they were called, of different looks and attributes, of beauty and horror, of the greatest dreams and nightmares. What was shocking was the number of them. They stood upon the highest points of a city or town if not off the sides viewing into the human civilization. The world was in an uproar and the leaders of these nations needed answers before their people went ballistic, so they turned to science.

Science couldn’t explain, as much as they tried they could not approach the beings. On foot they will fall to their knees, weakened and suddenly sick. From air the vehicle wouldn’t listen and some even went off course by themselves. They tried shooting, the gun wouldn’t fire. They tried machines but they exploded or either turned around and went back.

These numbers of occurrences drove the men and women of science crazy. And once this hit the news the world went from an uproar into ballistic. Without answers from their leaders the people turned to the next best thing. The church, the Vatican welcomed them with open arms and wide smiles. Even they couldn’t foresee the numbers and were bum rushed by sudden believers. With powerful voices, cheerful and scary sayings, their grins grew big along with their pockets.

Finally after six days, on the seventh they all disappeared. Exactly at the same time they were off the map, off the radar, completely gone. Once this reached the news and then the people, there was an even bigger overflow for many types of religions. Even some made up on the spot. But as always, days passed people began to doubt what happened. Did it even happen? Did the whole human race go crazy? Is it the terrorist? Is it Armageddon?

"No", says the church, "it is a sign of god."

"No", says the pentagon, "it was terrorist or troublemakers."

"No", says the scientist, "we’ll get back to you eventually.”

Nobody could come up with any good explanations. Did this really happened, was going through everybody’s minds. A month later, they received that answer. In an instance, around the world people screamed or were shocked to utter silence.

Cities, towns, regions visited by an angel gave birth to two between the ages of twelve through eighteen. In a brilliant flash of golden, blue light. They hover off the ground, their faces turned to the sky as if they were screaming without uttering a sound. From nowhere, white feathery wings formed around them. Creating an egg and a minute later they hatched. Given a beautiful and unique form, with or without wings they fell to the ground gracefully. Their eyes ignited with wisdom, hope, strength, and determination before the humans around them. Their former brethren looked up to them. Many fell to their knees and hailed them. Former friends, family, even strangers raise their hands to them…the angels.

Those visited by a demon had the exact opposite. Four demons of teen age were given birth out of the human populace. They fell to the ground in pain. A heart wrenching scream escaped their lips. Everybody around them hurried to them with worry when an explosion of demonic energy knocked them back. They stared with fear as their loved ones transformed. Flames and blood sprouted around them as the vision or illusion of wailing souls flew around them. A circle appeared under them as the undead monstrosities appeared and surrounded the chosen ones. Here the screams and shrieks came, gathering some of the attention of the monstrosities as they went off and attacked relentlessly. Some transformations were longer than others based on how many people were around. Limbs, bodies, and guts were thrown upon the chosen along with the undead as a pile formed, harden and became a cocoon. Liquefying into blood, it melted like ice cream as the chosen exploded out of the horror, gasping for air and taking life. They weren’t human anymore.

Scared, confused, their minds went gloomy as the blood that surrounded them was their own loved ones. They screamed in horror, running towards the nearest sign of human life as they screamed and ran too. Seeing the fear and hatred of others, they ran to the darkest corner. Hide and recuperate until their minds could make out what was going on. That was the plan for some. Others simply lounged around like jelly. They were dumbfounded by the carnage and death cause by their upcoming. Many simply played it off like a bad dream. Sadly, it wasn’t.

The media was on it from around every corner. Angels and Demons were both rushed by cameras, lights, and horribly annoying people searching for a good story. It was easy for angels. They played it cool and calm speaking their mind. Unsure about this event as their young age and beauty warmed the people’s hearts. Demons on the other hand either ran or show their rage, causing many deaths for unfortunate civilians. It didn’t take long as law enforcements sprang in but failed. Mobs formed but failed. These monstrosities couldn’t be hurt by human hands and once they knew that. Those cities that gave birth to them were in deep fear and carnage. It went on for a few days until for the first time a battle between an angel and few demons were recorded. With grace and ease, the angel disposed of the demons. Hunting each of them down until the city was free of all four.

The people were in a gracious upheaval, the media reported this angel as a hero. Many did the usual, fell on their knees and hailed him. The church supported him as did humanity. He was loved and ushered by the government for help. Nobody listened to the few and bold scientist who said to wait as their own great minds gave in and turned to the church. Like wildfire, angels left their own cities and attacked cities and towns of demons. Their reasons to fight were obvious. Many of them were excited to engage in battle in fact. In fear, the demons attacked, ran, or hid. There was only one reason, survival. The war raged around the world and embedded in each of these combatants minds were five simple rules.

This is a battle till one side is completely victorious and the other is extinct. A demon cannot be harmed by a human. An angel cannot directly harm a human. One angel is more powerful than one demon. You cannot kill yourself.
The number one thing I hate about prologues is they take a series of what would be interesting dramatic moments, and synopsize them into what reads like a bland report. I mean there was nothing technically wrong with what you wrote, it would just be so much more gripping if you wrote it out as part of the story. Or do you just want to skip to the war, being too lazy or having too short an attention span to put together the rising action? (I can sympathize.)

Let me suggest: make a bunch of short, episodic parts showing the actions that lead to the war. Maybe between one and three pages each. You can just have a character observing the next stage of the beginning. A bystander or reporter witnessing the angel atop Lady Liberty's flame, etc.

But hey, it's your story. It's not wrong, I just don't like it, and I think it's a waste of what could be great material.
thanks for the critique and its true that I am skipping past good material. But I have a reason to do so. A very good reason actually so just hang tight and you might like what I offer later on
Angels and Demons

Episode 1

"The Hero is the Villain"

Here is where the story begins. Walking down the barren road was a figure, unrecognizable at first. The figure was cloaked in a dirty brown robe. The winds picked up and flicked it around. It blew harshly to the point where whatever was holding it in place broke. Taken by the wind, a young man of teen years was revealed. “You got to be kidding me.” He sighed as the wind tossed his gold bangs around, showing his blue eyes. He looked up to the red and pink sky, the horizon on his back and the sign of civilization before him. He wore a ragged green jacket with a black T-shirt underneath, tight jeans and use-to-be new pair of Air Forces.

Despite his poor appearance there was a glimmer in his blue eyes. He held a strong young face and had a look that he was seeking something. Out on his own he didn’t fear the elements he was in. He kept moving forward, with the promising chance that he might find what he was after. “This better be worth my time, could have stayed home with girl number seven.” He chuckled, his life has been going nowhere but up since the awakening and all he could hope was for trouble to come his way.

Farther down another road, there was a transport bus completely emptied of life. Well except two, the driver and a girl seeming to be thirteen. Every now and then the driver would look back at the teen, wondering why she was heading to this city all by herself. She seemed pretty lonely in fact. Her hair was long and brown, beautiful green eyes underneath. She had babyish cheeks making her seem even younger. She was dressed in a big blue sweater, a rainbow scarf around her neck, a blue skirt reaching passed her knees and big black boots. In her hands was a brown teddy bear that had seen better days.

“So, um, you’re on your own or something?” The bus man asked, finding it unusually quiet and weird.

“Sort of, I got some…business in Manning City.” She replied, her voice high pitch and cute.

“Business,” the bus man scoffed before checking himself. He looked back at the girl who seemed a little sad. “Eh, I’m sorry I mean you know what type of city this is you know.”

“A demon city…I heard.” She said calmly before an awkward silence fell. The bus man sighed, he decided to let it drop and focus on driving. The girl herself was focusing on something totally different. She was searching within herself, wondering what she was going to face up ahead. Deep inside her she knew she had no choice, she needed to do this not for fun, glory, or enjoyment.

She felt there were people who needed her help, her help against them. Taking a deep breath, the girl turned her gaze from the floor and towards the front window. Lighted by the last minutes of sunlight was Manning City, a demon city.

Down in the depths of the city, it was unusually quiet. There were still people walking about but without relief. They moved quick, briskly and very aware. Their eyes were shifty, unsure and untrusting. There were a few cars on the roads, moving a little faster than the speed limit but no one blamed them. Even after the horrible tragedies, after the mad rush to leave. There were still those who rather risked death than leave their homes and families. With the tall buildings surrounding the major neighborhoods, the last glints of light didn’t reach the ground encasing the people in darkness.

But high upon a sky scraper, there was a cloaked figure still watching the sunset. He’s been sitting there for ten minutes now as the sky turned into different shades of colors. He simply stared on till the last glimpse of light was completely nonexistent. With a sigh, the cloaked figure stood up and looked down. He stood at the building’s edge. He stared down into the darken streets of Manning City, his home. He watched the ant size people mill around as fast as they could. It’s been like this for weeks now.

Ever since the transformations, the awakenings, you know you’re either screwed or loved. He was screwed, since the day he was born. This is almost no difference as the cloaked figure remembered his past life. He was just another kid living in the slums despite the advancement of technology and society. Some things just don’t change. He looked behind him and stared deeply at a dark glass reflecting his image.

He was cloaked, a darkish gray hood surrounded his head leading a long black cape down his back and pooling upon the ground. Within the hood, it was pitch black except for the red orb that was his right eye, his only eye. From there he wore a grayish vest, a pitch black long sleeve shirt underneath, black gloves, black and gray army pants, and pure white Air Forces. There was a pit of darkness where his mouth should be. “Simply amazing,” as he spoke a maw of sharp white teeth formed, almost as wide as his hood.

He turned around, and looked down at the dark street. He was sixty stories off the ground and with a deep gasp. He jumped without hesitance, closing his one red eye he fell like a bullet. His long black cape followed behind him, whipping around by the relentless wind. He pasted the thirty story mark when he opened his eye and screamed. A second later, he hit the ground with a wet smack. The way his body collapsed seemed like clay as his cape piled on top completely covering his form.

Nothing happened for a few seconds till something stood from under the cape as it took form and like magic he was unharmed. “Damn,” he cursed, “I was praying for that one.” He already knew this would happen. He tried to kill himself four times before. Even though he already knew the outcome he didn’t feel like taking the stairs or elevator. Slowly he shuffled his feet towards the nearest wall and hit his back against it. He looked around and found himself in a dark wet gutter. “Appropriate,” he chuckled as he slid down and sat upon his cape. He rested there amongst the darkness, wishing it could just eat him up and make him disappear.

Nothing happened for a few minutes in the alley. The only thing that broke the silence was the dripping of water. It was a mess full of carelessly thrown trash and wet, soggy boxes. It smelled horrible, years of decay and rot left unchecked for years. "I hate this," he growled, pulling his knees into himself.

“Life is hard…isn’t it?” A female spoke from amongst the darkness, surprising the demon. He jumped upon his feet and braced himself as he searched for the voice. “Right here,” the voice came from behind a fallen trash can as its owner climbed up on feet.

“Yeah it is.” He would have said something different if he wasn’t so surprised by the human sudden emergence. Not only that but her beauty. Her hair was an eerie white, long, draping down her shoulders and back. Her eyes were white as well, wide and seemly alert. She wore white gown that reached her knees. Her frame was small, skin pale white with small arms, delicate fingers, smooth and slightly curved hips and legs. She was bare footed and stood there seemingly unsure of herself. The demon couldn’t help but stare with his one red eye. “Uh,” he didn’t know what to say.

“Yeah I don’t seem like the type to live in the gutters am I?” She chuckled nervously as her hand searched around until touching the wall. Her gaze was indirect, seemly staring at the wall behind him. “This is the gutters right? I stepped on some nasty stuff but I don’t know what.” Her expression fixed with a face full of disgust, shaking her foot a little to get rid of the gunk that clung to her sole.

“Yeah it is.” He repeated dumbfounded. Was a human, really talking to him? He stared deeply at her, confused and wondering what was wrong with her. He wanted to step towards her but he then quickly remembered what he was. That confused him even more as she seemed not to be running or screaming in terror. Then it hits him. “Are you…blind?”

“Damn,” despite the curse she still had a smile on her face. Her gaze was fixed towards him this time as she let go of the wall. She stepped forward, daintily, softly upon the balls of her feet. It was graceful, forcing him to look down as her movements enchanted him. “I was trying to play it off but I guess I’m not the best actor.” She giggled before stopping right before him.

He shook his head and focused his sight into her face. “What are you doing here?” His voice was more serious now as he took a few steps back. Was she here when he fell? He might as well take some precautions. It would be bad to scare off a girl who couldn’t see what she was running into.

“Wait, don’t go!” She screamed surprising him as he fell back. She searched around, unsure of what just happened. All of a sudden she fell to the floor, her small hands to her face as tears began to come.

“No, no, I’m still here I’m sorry!” He rushed to her side, a hand on her back as he looked her over. “I’m sorry, I just,” he didn’t know what to say. That he was a demon and didn’t want to scare her off. Now he made her cry.

She didn’t respond for some time, apparently these tears are bearing heavier loads. After some time she finally spoke. “I’m sorry. I’ve been struggling for a while now.” She sniffed a little and looked up.

He found it unusually creepy that she was blind but her eyes were staring into his one. “For how long,” he helped her up on her feet. Once he was up he crouched down and look at her feet, they were cut up and her ankles were bruised.

“Since the mad rush…I got separated by my family.” She said solemnly, placing a hand on his back wondering what he was doing.

He took this knowledge in and went it through his head. “When was the last time you ate or drank something?”

“It’s been a while.” She shrugged before letting out a shriek. She found herself in his arms. Her head upon his should as her pale cheeks blushed. “Um, what are you doing?”

He didn’t say anything at first. He turned towards the nearest exit and began to walk. His long black cape followed behind him, without a sound. “Taking you to civilization, just ask someone for help and you’ll be okay.” He brushed passed the decay of trash and paper. The embodiments of chaos and disorder. He stepped over broken bikes and worn tiles, passed piles of clothes and the rotting flesh of the dead.

She was none the wiser to the true chaos around her as he moved on. “What about you?” She asked, again her white eyes bore into his face.

“I’ll be fine.” He answered quickly.

She bit her lip, wondering what to say next “You sure, that scream was awfully scary.”

The demon stopped in his tracks, unsure how to answer that one. “It was a cat.”

“A cat,” she questioned, scrunching up her brow.

“You know…with demons and angels fighting, apocalypse over our heads, cats and dogs raining from the sky, all that biblical crap.” He shrugged. He never read the bible so he wasn’t sure about any of that stuff.

“Really, I never knew it was that bad, it’s so horrible.” In spite of her words smile was upon her face.

“Ah, that’s nothing. Try living at New Jersey, it was hell before any of this happened.” He chuckled a bit as it eased his mind and hers.

Her smile grew as she relaxed. “Have you?” She snuggled a bit into his arms as they continued on through the alley.

“Yes, I have actually…moved here hoping for a new life a year ago…wasn’t the best idea actually.” His voice was slum now, thinking back on what happened before the transformations.

“Oh, I’m so sorry.” She said hurriedly, wishing for forgiveness for her prying.

“Its okay, it’s ironic actually. That place is an Angel City now.” He sighed.

“Ouch, poor decisions aye?” She couldn’t help but comment on that one.

“Pretty much,” he took a turn another turn after many others through these complex alleys. This part of the city was complex with apartment buildings built next to each other amongst small businesses. The alleys were made as shortcuts from behind buildings but now act more like a dump.

There was a good amount of silence as repetitive steps began to lull her to sleep. Not wanting to fall asleep she blurted out a question she pondered about for a while now. “Do you think…all this is an act of higher beings?” It was a good question actually. One she hoped he had a better chance of answering, if not start up another conversation.

“I don’t know…I really don’t know.” How was he supposed to know? Another few minutes of awkward silence passed until it was interrupted by a sigh of relief when he saw a light up ahead.

“Are we almost there?” She peeped, curious about what was going on.

“Yeah-”A screech of tires interrupted him followed by the opening of doors. Both of them heard the sounds of trunks popped open and whatever it held was took out, cocked and ready. Steady voices spoke as they began to get louder. The demon slowly approached the exit unsure of what’s about to happen.

“The screaming was from here!” He stopped dead in his tracks as a few more cars screeched to a halt. What were a few became many as the voices were definitely loud. All of a sudden high powered beams of light shot at him, blinding him as he let out a painful grunt. He stepped back and clung tightly to the girl to keep her out of harm’s way.

“DEMON,” whoever said it was really out to get him. It was filled with as much hate and disgust anyone had for scum. Once that word was out it was followed by a hailstorm of angry voices. The young demon simply stared forward, his eyes grew use to light but was somewhat surprised by the number of men filling the exit. He looked down at the small girl who whimpered and shrank into his being.

“Release her you monster!” Another voice raged followed by more rants. He counted them the best he could, a good twelve all armed with weapons from handguns, to pump action shotguns, to automatic rifles. Carefully, he turned from them and walked towards the wall. He crouched and placed her beside the dumpster.

“I’m sorry.” He spoke gently as he began to back away. He hesitated a little, her hands gripping his left arm.

“Wait,” she whispered, “don’t go.”

“But-”

“I already knew you were a demon!” She revealed, her face flushed and scared. “I don’t think you’re a bad person.” His heart stopped when she said those words. He hesitated some more as a storm of threats and yells were thrown at his direction. He stared at her as he slid his arm out of her dainty and small fingers.

“Heh, are you sure?” He asked softly before standing up. He walked to the opposite wall and stopped for a moment. He looked back at her, her face filled with emotion that would shred out his heart if he had one. He turned away and walked. Its best he just leave, go like a bad dream. Leave the men to their weapons and useless threats. Leave the only girl he talked to since the awakening. His head was low, and his form was humble.

"Heh, bloody monster," the lead man of the group couldn't help but blurt out. He felt mighty proud of himself for scaring off a demon. That itself was a bad mistake as a smile of sharp teeth formed wide in the pit of darkness that was his face. Their voices were mild but chatty, throwing curses under their breath at the demon as they chuckled in harmony and waning victory. When all of a sudden he stopped and looked back. A bang ranged through the alley as it echoed out of existence. A piece of his head was gone. He turned around fully and received a barrage of arm fire, ripping through his body without mercy. His clothing and cape were torn away like Swiss cheese.

It was a fully fifteen seconds until the gun fire stopped. There was silence as the smoke of gunpowder took some time to settle. There before them, the demon stood as if nothing touched him at all. “I wanted to say something before I go…but apparently I have no choice but to defend myself.” His smile of pointy sharp teeth grew only wider. The air was still but his cape fluttered before coming to life. Like a snake it twisted behind him, snapped towards the wall. Digging into the brick wall, the cape continued inside before carving out a huge chunk out of the wall. It rolled around the broken pile of bricks and consumed it.

The cape fell to the ground as the mob of men backed away in fear. The large, creepy smile grew wider and suddenly his body lurched forward as he hurled. What came out was some type of monstrosity that should never be seen in the light of day. It was like a spider, with eight long, spiky legs. It was the size of a large dog as it screeched and growled. Its maw filled with sharp teeth with four very alert red eyes. It was as black as night and was covered in an armored shell with a row of spikes lining down its spine.

It moved quickly, from side to side as its tail whipped around with a sharp tip. It charged at them mashing its teeth as acid dripped from the corners of its mouth, falling to the floor melting holes into the ground. It moved with quick burst of speed before stopping to judge their reactions. A few of the men shot at it with all the ammo they had left. The monstrosity simply took them without being phased. The bullets bounced and deflected off harmlessly. Angry, the creature jumped on a wall before bouncing to the opposite wall. It stuck to the surface like any spider as it stared the men down with its evil red eyes. It trembled violently, coughing a bit before spitting out a wad of foul acid onto the floor at their feet.

They screamed as those in the front were dancing around as their shoes melted. Those in the back were the first to run, spilling out of the alley and out across their cars. The spider like creature leaped off the wall. Landing harshly upon one of the cars as it screeched some more. Scaring the men out their wits and forced them to leave behind their cars. They completely forgot about the young woman hiding behind the dumpster. As their own lives came first. They made a desperate dash down the streets. The best they could do was throw their weapons at the creature to lighten the load and scare it off from chasing them.

Like an avalanche, as the mob left in a hurry. This worried those who were nearby. After they took one look at the black armored creature with its acid spitting maw and snapping tail. Those who were around to witness it ran in a hurry too. Followed by others who weren’t even sure of what’s going on. In a storm of panic, in seconds the street was empty. “Heh, that went well.” He chuckled, watching his master piece at work, his own power. After basking in the light of amusement he turned his attention to the frightened girl. He looked back at the creature and with his will it disappeared.

He looked at the girl, her head in her knees, and her arms over her head. He sighed before walking towards her and took a seat beside her. He didn’t know what to say at first. He stared at the wall and the hole his cape has caused. “Um…I call myself Monster and its true…I am a demon. I’m a nice guy to tell you the truth.”

She sniffed a little. Her arms fell from above her head. She looked up and stared into his face, the source of his voice. Her hair hung messily around her face as she simply stared, her cheeks red and stained with tears. “Why do you choose to call yourself Monster?”

“Well,” he thought about it, “I can’t remember my human name. I guess it was appropriate at the time.”

She nodded slightly. “Well, my name is Julia Alcatraz. I’m from a fortunate family, very fortunate. But unfortunately I got separated by my family and left behind…what a family aye. You know…to leave behind your own blind daughter left to fend for herself.” She spoke gracefully, with pose and structure that seemed to be drilled into her. Despite the tragedy, a small smile appeared upon her face.

“I’m sorry. I guess we’re somewhat in the same situation.” He sighed sadly.

“Don’t worry about it…want to be friends?” She shrugged, a giggle escaping her lips. She quickly wiped her tears and fixed her hair with ease. She regained composure as if nothing had disturbed her.

“Really,” he asked, stunned. A human being nice to him was like a dream come true. But to have one as a friend, even with things as they are now. Monster had never thought such a thing would ever happen.

“Sure…why not,” she giggled some more as Monster fell silent, stunned. Julia cut her laugh short, wondering if she hurt his feelings. She thought a bit, quick to change the subject. “I wonder why they make you guys seems so bad. You’re a nice person despite who you are and your… name.” She shrugged.

“It’s racism.” He replied instantly. Julia laughed as a huge smile formed on his face, chuckling as well. Julia gathered her composure quite quickly and looked up to him, where his voice should be. Monster found himself entranced by her gaze as he simply stared, forgetting the fact that she’s blind. Once a few awkward seconds passed, Monster shook his head and snapped to attention. “Um, you aren’t hurt are you?” He slipped his hand under hers before standing up, bring her up with him.

“No I’m okay, shaken, but okay.” She shuddered a little, a slight wind blowing past them. “Um…nobody got-”

“No, nobody got hurt. I simply scared them off.”

“Damn, should have token a leg, man.” She joked, punching him in the arm quite accurately.

After good amount of laughter and a few moments of serenity, Monster resumed where they were before being interrupted. He picked her up with ease and turned towards the exit. “What would you like to eat?”

“Ah well, I got expensive tastes.” She chuckled.

“You spent a while without food and water. I doubt you can be choosey.”

“Whatever. Get me a greasy old burger then and I’ll die of a heart attack.” She directed a cute pout up towards him.

“How about sushi,” he asked innocently, straying his gaze from her pout.

“I love sushi!” Monster nearly dropped her, surprised by her high pitched squeal. “Oops, sorry,” she blushed.

Once they were out, he looked around and found the streets were empty. Close to a ghost town actually as many assortments of things were left behind, especially the cars which most were still running. Some had the keys still in the ignition as Monster checked over each one. He always had an interest in cars. He took his time as he walked past the vehicles until he took a stop in front of 1970s Mustang with the engine running and all the way in the back.

“Is that a Mustang...classic right?” She peeped, very excited by the prospect.

“How did you know?” He asked, completely puzzled.

Julia didn't respond at first as she closed her eyes for a few seconds before opening them again. "My dad was somewhat a car collector. I, without sight, could do nothing but listened and smell for details." She explained, remembering the only few times she got to share with her father.

"So like Mozart but with cars?" He chuckled, a pretty impressive skill for a human. Monster wondered if his own acute senses could do the same.

"Mozart was deaf not blind." Julia corrected with a slight arrogant tone. She couldn't help but correct someone when they make a mistake even an innocent one.

"Well sorry, I didn't have much of an education." Monster chuckled as he left behind the mustang and headed down the deserted city. He was enjoying himself, a woman in his arms accepting who he was. A potential friend. Yeah it sounded pathetic but at times like these it’s better than dying alone and without potential love.

Julia was enjoying the ride, finding it pleasant in this strong demon's arms. He was not like the stories and gossips everybody spoke about. He was down to earth except for his scary abilities. She wondered though, how much hell does Monster go through since the beginning. That mob back there was a good example. "Um...Monster?"

"Yes," he responded, his attention focused down the road.

She bit her lip and thought about it. "Never mind just tell me when we're there." Julia thought about it and decided to save this conversation for another time.

A moment of silence came as Julia relaxed a bit, closed her eyes and pressed into Monster’s chest. She listened to his slow steps and beating heart. In the mean while she searched deep into her own feelings. But could only come out with what’s obvious to her. This has become a pretty good day despite her own troubles.

"We're almost there." Monster let out, seeing the restaurant down the road.

"Awesome," Julia replied, her eyes closed with a little smile on her face.

"Yeah," He was happy but sad at the same time. It finally hit him, he couldn't enter the restaurant. Probably the only place opened in miles and one glance of him and it would be unpleasant. Monster already had a feeling this wouldn't last forever and as he looked down into Julia's content face. He wasn't sure on how he would break the news.

The full moon was out and the street lamps were off. Monster slowed his steps as he took comfort in looking into Julia's beautiful face. If only he was human, Monster thought as he wondered what was going through Julia's head. Both Monster and Julia were rudely awaken by a sudden explosion of white flames. It splashed from their left as Monster quickly turned his back towards it. He shielded Julia from the fire as he suffered minor burns.

Monster looked around, he was obviously pissed. Again he was interrupted and whoever the idiot was to throw that grenade or whatever was going to pay. He shielded Julia’s small form under him and his cape as he searched the seemingly empty streets. “Where the hell are you?”

“Funny, that’s where I’m planning on sending you.” The voice came from above, filled with young confidence and a small flow of hate. Monster looked up and was shocked by what he saw. He couldn’t work out what he was seeing with his one eye. If he could he would try to rub his eye a few times but he can’t. Upon a light pole, the moon was shinning directly behind the silhouette of a dark figure. “What’s wrong ugly,” the figure asked with a cocky grin on his face. “Never seen an angel before?”
