Welcome to Gaia! ::

The Gentry

It's a new neighborhood, one
where the police have a little free time
to follow young girls home from the bars,
toss some cocaine in through their car windows,
then knock on their doors at 4 AM
and mention, perhaps, a b*****b while they rattle
the cuffs by the soft leg of their pants.

We're all safe here. The hispanics and blacks
keep to the old diners and tire shops
across the six-lane thoroughfare spiked
with low bushes. They leer out the windows
from the red booths, from the stained waiting room couches,
across the wide road, down the shaded streets.

But they look away, down at their burgers,
down at their feet, as a police cruiser rolls
up to the Anderson's, and their daughter
staggers out of the passenger seat
wearing last night's party dress.

They look away, and they smile.
i think your use of linebreaks could be improved, but overall structurally it's pretty sound. and it's got a pretty sound.

there's no individual lines that blow me away but it tells a story p. vividly. i made it into a song if you're interested.
