After recently beginning to re-read The Lord of the Rings, I made up a little tune while washing dishes earlier today.
This was after reading Book II in The Fellowship of the Ring. I just had to write it down:
Without any anger, without any malice,
the old king drew high his old hand with the chalice,
His lands ruled by justice, his knights sworn to oath,
both his men and mer had full reason to boast,
The waters were pure, clean crisp and sparkling,
the night sky was bright and prevented blind wandering,
He needn't want war, nor any quarrel,
for he was the fair king of which they named Borryl
For Borryl the king, was a hero among men,
his daughter Elthilda sought out by young Ren,
Young Ren was a fool, heart pure as a dove,
he would do anything in the name of love,
He seeked out king Borryl, and to him he said,
"I'd like your permission your daughter to wed,"
King Borryl but smiled, and said unto thee,
"Test ye I shall if ye truly love she,"
He sent Ren on a quest, for glory and pride,
sent to slay a dragon in the mountains up high,
The king sat and waited, with little dismay,
until Ren returned yelling "Make way, make way,"
He brought the big head, of the dragon he'd slain,
his gear was in tatters yet he endured the pain,
"I've done what you asked, for let us have a feast,
I've come to claim your daughter now in place of this beast,"
The old king but laughed, and said to the lad,
"You've proven your worth and she's yours to be had"
Ren and Ethilda, lived many long days,
O'er their fireplace a dragon head lay
What do you think? I know it isn't the best, but it's pretty quaint and simple.
Not to mention the first lyrics I've basically ever written.
