I see you! And that round joke
choked down in one brief swallow:
Pit or pearl? Whose growth follows?

What buds push your lips apart,
plying over milky tongue?
But your breath dews my mouth shut.

Slow path, the things I keep back
are marking a map, inked trash,
to a treasure box of teeth.

I like it, sound-wise, a lot. But I'm lost. There are all these interesting, strong images – but ultimately I can't figure out what the poem's about.

I particularly liked "your breath dews my mouth shut" and the alliteration in "pit or pearl?"
