Nothing serious. Just a wordplay exercise I thought I'd share.


If we could sit in silence
for just a while longer,
I'd paint your closet black.

Step out of thought
like a rusty pair of shoes
and toss them in the back.

For just a while in silence,
step out of a pair of shoes,
and toss them in your closet, black.

If we could sit longer,
like a rusty thought,
I'd paint your back.

It wasn't an exercise I came across elsewhere. I just typed out a couple of stanzas and then played with them a bit, mixed alternating lines together and whatnot. If you need a name, you can call it Fred.



Here's the pattern I used if you want to give it a try. The two adjacent letters indicate the two parts to a line.
