Tiger's Second Heir
Kurenai
Disappointment. Something she felt most of the time because she always had impeccable timing where it concerns her missing Mei every once in awhile. Just once. But, the length of Mei’s visit always shortened each and every day. So, these days, she ponders on lost time between them and carefully mends some of her husband’s old clothes. Even if he had the tendency to purchase another pair of combat clothes for his missions after wrecking the one he wore, it’s always good to fall back on a worn pair when new threads are in desperate need of repair. Of course, housework wasn’t her main priority but she felt normalcy in working like a diligent housewife. She was far from a normal housewife since her descent trails far into a long profession of assassin’s in her own house, and quite skilled herself.
When sparing with her husband though, she either found herself in a stalemate or gaining another lose. And, while she reminisced on past events, gently laid out his old uniform on the table in front of her and stood, departing from their shared room. How long has it been since they married? One? Two months perhaps? Yes, two. She confirmed in her mind. Everything seemed to be running smoothly, no disputes between her or the House of Dragons, and no quarrels with her husband yet.
Visiting her mother once, the women oozed pride and her father (always unreadable) showing signs of approval over the marriage. Sometimes she would laugh how the events happened, chancing upon the Eldest heir on one of his peeking sprees on her, almost surprised that he nearly did this everyday after training. How silly and responsible. Silly for participating in such an odd hobby and responsible for putting training above peeking on her first. How did she react to his presence? By nearly murdering him in the process with one of her many senbon hidden on her person, hostile intent visible on her features and demanding answers. All interrogator-like. And then, she came to accept his presence and inserted him in her life like so many others.
The day her father discovered Irral made her cringe at the memory, he nearly loped his head off! Several times she restrained herself not to remind her husband of past events. It didn’t deter him any from pursuing her. Her father threatened him on many occasions until he uncovered Irral’s origins, immediately apologizing and beating himself up for nearly murdering one of the heirs belonging to the House of Dragons. Most important one at that. Both heads colliding with each other, the head of House of Dragons demanding an explanation as to why his son was almost killed and her father, head of the House of Tigers, crumbling under the weight of the man’s status and bent his head in submission. Quite a horrible shock and horrifying in her opinion, her father submitted to no one. And well, she was never really fond of rankings within a monarchy and found all individuals her equal. She was sorely tempted to be vocal but restrained herself, remaining silent in the presence of the Dragon's clan head.
After her father dealt with the problems he caused and offered his daughter’s hand in marriage to the Eldest Heir as forgiveness for his actions, at first, she protested. Irral seemed like such a nice man but she had other duties and responsibilities in need of attendance, her mother furious with her father. To eliminate any doubts about their marriage, her father made negotiations and set up daily meetings between her and Irral. It was terrible in the beginning, always pointing out obvious flaws she sooner or later fell in love with. Attempting to find anything to dissolve this marriage, only to find herself harboring mutual affections for him. In the end, they were happily married and settled herself nicely in the household and finding many hobbies to occupy herself with.
Sooner or later, she appointed herself as support. Her sister, although not in blood, but still her sister through her marriage with Irral often shared personal conversations.
Startled by the sudden commotion as her thoughts on the past ceased, quickly sprinting through the halls. It was Mei’s voice! All of her instincts flaring as she bursts into the training area, observing everyone’s condition as her eye’s zeroed on Mei. The poor girl all out of sorts and bleeding, hissing slightly in anger. As much as she respected her husband as well as her husband’s brother, being surrounded by males didn’t appeal in any way in her mind when it concern’s Mei’s wellbeing. Hesitating slightly, it had only been two months and a day since their marriage but she still felt responsible for anything that happens to Mei; standing in the background as the three heirs interact and wasn’t sure if she should intrude on personal matters. But, Mei’s explainable injuries must be attended to and sadly, she never really put much faith in their medical staff.
‘Family is precious no matter what.’
