Rowan sighed and began to spell out her name. This was taking even longer now because the man couldn't pronounce a simple name. "R.O.W.A.N. And my last name is.." She trailed off for a moment wondering whether to give a false name or just be honest. They had no evidence to convict her. The man who was killed was Irish. Why did they care so much? If it was one of their kind who was killed, she would probably be imprisoned. She inhaled deeply and finished her sentence "O'Connel. O. C. O.N.N.E.L." Her eyes shifted up towards Jamey, he was watching her. Of course he was. Why couldn't they just believe that this was a 'natural' death. She made eye contact with the man though only pure annoyance was visible now. Her attention returned back to the man before her and she asked, "What do you need from me?"

She repeated the story she gave Jamey. She came out here to return money to the man when he suddenly grabbed his chest as if he were having some kind of heart attack or stroke. She turned to find help and that is when the man fell into the water. The man was a drunk. He was kicked out of the bar. Could they just close the case already? Everyone was miserable. No one wanted to be out in this cold weather. It seemed the two love birds wanted to get back to their date so why hold off? She had to remain calm though. She could already tell that the men were constanly eying her. Perhaps it was because she was a rare beauty or maybe it was because of her firey red hair and thick Irish accent.

Annoyed with the questions, she lifted her gaze away from the note taker and placed them on the woman staring down at the water. She so badly wished the woman would fall in to keep the attention off of her. Mentally, she cursed the woman. She cursed herself for making a scene out of the man's death. She should have just allowed him to drown and get picked off by whatever strange creatures lived in this ocean. She had thought to play innocent at first but this was just a longer process.

She hoped that Thomas was alright. The man was a fool but a sweatheart unlike most of the men that worked for Killian. Thankfully, Killian would be busy with the 'big wig' to notice her absence. Maybe she could get this over and done with before he really took notice of her lack of presense.

(Also, Rowan isnt' the Mafia Queen..She is just a female member who gets 'along' with the boss...if you know what i mean)

As Mei began her story, Connor couldn't help but immediately become lost at the word "geisha". Connor had never before heard that word and didn't know what it meant. He was able to interfere it was a she, then the more he listened, the more he began to create an assumption at what a geisha might be. He had concluded it was some sort of woman profession that dealt with men. By the way Mei spoke about it, it seemed she was most likely employed for sexual acts, so obviously, of course she would be taken advantage of for men if she was selling her services. To be sure of the meaning of this word and the details behind this profession, Connor asked, "What exactly is a geisha?" When Mei began to talk about religion and the bible, Connor reached into his back pocket and pulled out a rosary, "God isn't just a western philosophy, unless you consider Ireland western." he grinned letting the shiny black chain with small green gems dangle, reflecting the light pleasantly, "Wait to you go to confession." Connor joked knowing she most likely wouldn't get it, but that wasn't what he was aiming for, "I have a bible at home, we're Catholic. What do you mean values? What do you base them on?"

"Oh, I'm sorry! I should've known you wouldn't know what a geisha was. How silly of me." Mei apologized. "Oh, um, well...they're like....escorts. And they get paid according to the amount of time they spend entertaining men. It's generally only men they entertain, and only very rich men can afford to have the best geisha over for company. They entertain at tea houses, but only when they're called from home to do so. They live in a big house usually with other geisha or geisha-in-training. Some people say they are prostitutes. And some, usually lower-class geisha are. But mostly they are entertainers, trained in the art of attracting men and entertaining them. However some do slip into prostitution. It tends to pay better, of course." Mei blushed and looked down, somewhat ashamed of the culture even though she wasn't a part of that particular aspect of China.
Mei looked up at Connor. "Oh, well, I didn't know Ireland had a certain religion or that they believed in God as well. Forgive my ignorance, I just didn't realize Christianity is in more than one place. There were very very few people who practiced it in China." she explained. "What's confession?" she asked, puzzled. Mei stared at the rosary in awe, naturally attracted to the way it shone in the dim light. "Oooh, what's that?" she asked, sounding like a little kid.
Mei looked back up to Connor. "Oh, well, um our values are general keep the peace values. You know, don't kill or hurt people, respect everyone and their belongings, be kind and generous. I don't really know what they're based on. They were sort of passed down from my grandmother who taught them to my mom who taught them to me. My dad had them too but my mom was a lot more insistent that I grow up to be a good citizen. But I think my grandmother may have been a Christian. No one in my family speaks of it, because it is dangerous to speak of things like that in China. But I have my suspicions. I saw a Bible on her nightstand once when I was very very young. I remember it was tattered and worn and in Chinese, and as I reached out to open it my father grabbed me and said I shouldn't mess with people's belongings and hauled me back into the main room. That's all I've ever seen of one." Mei finished, staring off into space. She could recall the smell of her grandmother's house. It smelled like old people, a little like death, but warm. Mei had few memories of her grandmother, but all of them were good ones.
Mei turned back to Connor and refocused. "Maybe she got them from your Christianity. Or Catholicism, or whatever you want to call it." she smiled.

As Astrid began to head off, Jamey gave her one more close glance, looking her up and down. She was definitely something, a sweet woman, and somehow, he felt he had been lucky to find her all those years ago because perhaps she would really be that one person for him. Jamey had never really stopped and thought about the saying that there was one person out there for everyone. He never really considered that ever applying to him, until now. Looking over to the officer interviewing Rowan, he watched from a distance, observing her behavior and gestures, expressions, everything. Her behavior was definitely not that of a typical person who had just witnessed an accidental death, especially a woman who had just witnessed it.

The officer wrote down her name, "Thank you, Ma'am." he said respectfully, "And how do you know the victim? Personally or not? Where you inside when he first started exhibiting the odd behavior?" he asked holding the pen in hand. Jamey kept an eye on Rowan, he didn't care if she felt awkward from his staring because in all honesty, he was staring at her. It was his job to read her like a book.

Entertaining men. Connor raised an eyebrow as he listened to Mei talk about the geishas and their different acts and forms, 'If I was going to pay to be entertained and kept company by a woman, I think it'd involve sex otherwise there wouldn't be a point.' he thought trying to imagine a horny man hiring a geisha JUST to watch her. It seemed very unrealistic to the male profile, at least most the men he knew, 'Not that I'd ever hire one in the first place.' he finished the thought before nodding at the end and finishing his dark beer, 'So... they're prostitutes.' was the key point Connor got out of her long explanation, "Well no wonder she got cheated by men. If you're going to work in a profession that attracts shady costumers that only care for your body and what it can do to their own body than ye might as well expect to be treated poorly. It would be stupid not to expect it that's what I say." Connor boldly stated his opinion. This was an attitude that some women found attractive and some found repulsive in Connor; he didn't hide his opinion. While discussing a topic, despite who he was talking to, he would state his opinion confidently with little worry or care for the reprecussions of them disagreeing. This was what he thought and if they didn't like it tough. After all, this was America. Though he was feeling comfortable with Mei and didn't expect her to treat him poorly for his opinion.

As the topic changed to religion, Connor replied, "Yes well, many countries are known for Christianity in some form. There are a lot of forms but they're basically just Jesus believers. Me family is Catholic an' part of Ireland is also Protestant. They're constantly fightin' over some horse shite about the tiniest pin points of their religion. It's hogwash if you ask me. They're all the same." Connor shrugged, "Speaking of confession, we have confessions tomorrow. It's when you confess your sins to a priest so God may forgive you." Connor answered.

Mei chuckled. "Actually, a lot of her customers were well-respected business men that expect to be entertained by a geisha at a tea house when they come to town. Sometimes, if someone wants to suck up to their boss, they'll pay for a well-noted geisha to come and play music for them or tell jokes. Many geisha, including my mother's friend, do not choose to be geisha. They are forced into it because they are orphans or their family is too poor to give them a good future. Sometimes their family just doesn't want a daughter around, and gives her away. Generally speaking, geisha do not choose their fate. Why would a woman choose to sell herself to such a cruel and unforgiving business?" she shook her head with a sigh.
"That doesn't make sense....why should you confess to a priest, when God is the one who has to forgive you? Can't you just confess to God?" she asked, confused. Mei hoped Connor didn't take offense to her words, she just didn't understand the methods of Catholicism.

~Astrid Cecelia Elsen~

Astrid listened to what she could hear in the back between the officers and Rowan. She could begin to feel the chill of the night air against her skin. Astrid shivered slightly but quickly changed what she was thinking about. When ever she felt cold, hungry, uneasy, or vulnerable she would sing to keep her mind occupied. Softly she began to sing

The lyrics were actually quite beautiful and portrayed a story that many could relate with. She personally loved the song because of all the breaks that made it sound rather eerie and whimsical. In English the lyrics were "As I was on my eighteenth year There was a beautiful boy who fell into my bossom I thought I could own him forever But this, my thought, was soon to disappear There was another girl, laid down in his arms She he'd liken to a rosy flower Though I have treasured my father and mother dearly Aswell as siblings and friends who loved me here So is this love above them all Thank you for being my only comfort And thank you for the moments I've rested by your chest In heaven we shall unite " Once she finished singing she leaned against the rail and closed her eyes drifting into a light sleep.

Rowan let out a sigh and shook her head slowly. "The man is like every other man who comes to a bar. I don't know him personally, no. I've seen him before but that is it. It wasn't until I was outside next to him that these 'symptoms' started to show. If they did show earlier, I didn't notice." She stated calmly. "It came on suddenly."

Rowan grew up in a place where death was not something that rarely happened. She had seen it before. She was use to it. She had even witnessed her mother's death. One would think that the officers would be use to this kind of reaction from anyone in this area. Accidentle or not, death happened. It was part of being poor.

At that, Jamey's face contorted into a look of pure confusion as her story changed right in front of him, Jamey had to make sure he was truly witnessing this as he placed a fist under his chin and stood there in deep thought remembering her exact words so that he could call her out on them.

"Alright, and you said just another man who comes into the bar, that's mean's you see a lot of men in the bar. Do you work there? Are you employed by Old Man O'Malley?" the cop asked curiously now of her connection to the location so he could write down her purpose there at that time.

"Wait." Jamey spoke boldly as he took a step toward the two from where he had previously been watching a few feet away, "I apologize for the interruption, but when I asked you what happened earlier, you had said he had been complaining about his heart hurting and that he was making a scene and got kicked out. While making a scene he had not mentioned at all of his pain you're now saying? Or are you now saying he didn't make a scene? You didn't notice him at all?"

The round, chubby officer took a step back dropping his pen and note pad by his side, curiosity too overcoming him as he decided to just watch and see the outcome of this conversation. He turned and looked at Rowan expectantly awaiting her answer.

"I am there more often than not and I help out where I can. I wouldn't say that I'm a full time worker there, no." She worked for Killian who pretty much owned the area so to her, she was a worker but not necessarly the kind this cop was suggesting.

Both the questioning cop and Rowan were interupted by the detective. Her eye brows forrowed in confusion. What was he babbling on about? Was he purposly trying to convict her. Was it because she was Irish. "THAT is not what I had said, detective." Rowan was much more irritated now. She stood up so that the man wasn't towering over her. She wouldn't' allow him to dominate this situation. "He was kicked out for causing a drunken scene not because he displayed any symptoms. I have no idea when they started or whether or not they started in the pub. I wasn't watching him all night. I am not altering my story, sir, you are.I have spoken the truth both times. I came outside to give him his change and that is when i noticed these symptoms. He was complaining about his heart once i reached him outside. Why is it that you want to convict me so, detective? Your ears are playing tricks on you or is there something else about me you do not like?" She asked almost accusing him of being against her because of where she grew up and what she was.

Some of the men from the pub stood near by. They had no intention of leaving Rowan out for the dogs or in this case...pigs. They took a step towards her protectivly. Rowan's eyes shifted over to the woman who was standing near by before looking back at the detective. "If you have the intention of arresting me for a crime I didn't do, i suggest you do it sooner or later and stop wasting my time with these questions. I've told you all that I know. I've told you the truth. If you need me for anything else, I'll be inside. Guilty until proven innocent is how your kind see it." She said turning away from the cops. This was ridiculous. She stopped at the door to face them "You might as well arrest us all in here because we are Irish, detective. We are all guilty of something...aren't we? We must be because we aren't from this continent. We aren't like you pretty little boys and girls." Her eyes flashed once more to the woman by the water. She hated her because of what she was. "We are done here. You have my statement. There is no point in telling you anything else if you are going to alter it to fit your needs anyways."

(Not sure where you think the mix up is. I checked back on my posts to make sure. Can't find it. Also, she has no idea Jamie is Irish. Just playing the character smile ).

She then looked to Thomas, who was apparently ready. She nodded and quickly heated the knife to a good temperature. She then looked at Thomas once more before quickly placing the flat part of the hot knife against his wound. She did this a few times in a row, removing the knife after three seconds and then placing it back on.

Once she was finished, Catherine checked the wound to assure that it was indeed closed before she bandaged it up once more. "All done." The Welsh stood to her feet with the remaining supplies in hand and turned to the member who had given them to her, "Thank you," she said as she handed them back to him.

Thomas bit down hard on the rag and struggled to muffle a scream that came out as a grunt as the hot metal was pressed to the wound. But she wasn't done, she did it again and again he grunted and bit down hard as his whole body tensed up with the pain. Even a tough guy like him wasn't immune to such a high amount of physical pain like this. The treatment hurt worse than the stab wound itself. After a couple of more times the woman was done. Thomas was breathing heavily and sweating now. "Th-Thanks m'am, I mean it. You're a good person, I was wrong about you. Maybe not about your father but you're alright in my book.Would ya care fer a drink?" he apologized standing up off the bench and putting his shirt back on, He walked over to the bar and asked for some water for himself and let the young lass order for herself before he looked around and wondered where in the hell Rowan had wandered off to.

MacDaly felt a bit of relief as Tommy finally started listening to some good ol' common sense. Wounds could mess with a man's mind, but the lad seemed to be making his way through alright. "Ya go get yourself taken care, and yeh can come back if ya feel like it now." He gave Catherine a nod and an almost-flirtatious smile before tuning back to the mob that was his people. Good ol' Scottie was still in the corner whimpering. Now that brought some warmth to a man's heart, Killian had been worried his addle-brained muscle men would have been caught up in the excitement and let their charge free. Always nice to be saved some disappointment. He glanced at Catherin's father. "I've got one more thing ta take care of now sir, but I think you'll enjoy this bit. It'll give ya a good idea of how I run my business ya see. Go on and take a seat if you'd like."

He walked forward and hopped up on the boxing ring, avoiding the blood smear and tooth as he did so. Looking out at the crowd he gave one of his most charming smiles. "Lasses and gents, I apologize for the little distraction we had just now. We'll be taken steps to make sure those types are better taken care of in the future, don't you worry. In the meantime I have another character type to present to all of ya." He motioned to the big men who pushed forward a very nervous looking Scotty. Clapping the sweating man on the shoulder MacDaly's smile took a crocodile twist. "Some of yeh might know this lad by the name of Scotty. Scotty why don't you say hello to all your friends?"

The man's mouth opened and closed in an attempt to speak his name but only a squeaky rasp emerged. Killian chuckled. "Eh, good enough. Now I think all or at least most of you who know of good ol' Scotty also know why he might be up here tonight." He sighed and shook his head as a disappointed father might. "Ya see, I've been hearing whispers and rumors that Scotty lad here has been taken some fat money checks from the police!" An angry roar emerged from the crowd and many cast a cruel eye at the unfortunate fellow. Killian waited for the noise to dim to a heated hissing before continuing. "Now then I do hope to the depths of me heart these cruel rumors ain't true, cause that would just be so very wrong of Scotty to betray not only my trust but now all of our trusts that way. And o' course like the gentleman I am I'm going to be givin Scotty here a chance to clear his name, in front of all of ya! What do you all think?" There were a range of responses from the crowd. Some cried out for his immediate punishment while others yelled out in agreement or disagreement of Killian's proposal. All set hungry eyes on the traitorous scum.
