ഛ He began to wonder if they really were on their way to retrieve them, and what he would do if they came.
"Why won't you train?" he said. He was confused now, because he knew she wasn't lazy like he was...ഛ
ᗌᗌNot another thought passed through her mind when she said: "Because I just don't want to." It wasn't a lie, but it wasn't the entire truth either. "And besides, why should they care about how well I can control myself? In the end they're just going to tell us to destroy as much as we can anyways."
ഛ He nodded his head in agreement. "That's true, but you have great potential. I think learning how to control your powers will help you more than it will this war, and self confidence is a very good thing to have." Maybe if she could control herself she wouldn't be a danger to others and herself....he thought. ഛ
ᗌᗌJessi shrugged. "I'll end up setting someone on fire before I learn." She answered. "I really have no control over which way the fire goes, only how far it spreads. But you've gotta be quick about that stuff. Fire spreads like air if there's enough to burn.. And if it's windy, that only makes it a little more difficult to tame.. I'm quicker if I'm angry enough." She added, turning her head to look at her cousin.
ഛ An idea just then formed in his head. Maybe he could help his cousin with her problem.
Just as he opened his mouth to say something, his door slid open and one of the drill sergeants grabbed them by the collars of their shirts and dragged them outside into the afternoon light. "Ugh, they caught us," he said to a kicking and screaming Jessi. He reluctantly hung his head in defeat as they were carried to the training field. ഛ
ᗌᗌHer hands were clamped tightly around her superior's wrist in an honest attempt to pry him off of her, trying her hardest to plant her feet into the ground. "Let go of me! I don't wanna go!" She cried out, ignoring her cousin. For a moment she thought about burning him, but she'd be in trouble for it. So instead, she clawed at his skin.
ഛ When they reached the training field, the drill sergeant roughly dropped them on the ground. "Ow!" he said, rubbing his rear as he got up. He then helped Jessi to her feet. "Jackass." He stared daggers at the receding drill sergeant.
"Well, I guess we should train since we're here, anyway. Besides, I have an idea to help you train with your attribute. Follow me." He started to walk toward an open space in the field no one was using at the moment. ഛ
ᗌᗌJessi panted as she rose to her feet, her eyebrows furrowed. "I'm not in the mood to train." She grumbled, turning her head to find a corner to sit in. She did, in fact, want to train. She just didn't want anyone around when she did.
ഛ "Listen, you're going to have to train, but whether it's pressured on you by our superiors or you train with me at your own pace is your choice... I know you'll feel embarrassed with others around, so why don't we go somewhere secluded from everyone else so you can train properly?" He put his hands behind his back and watched as Jessi thought of what she wanted. ഛ
ᗌᗌJessi turned back to look at him, sighing in exasperation as she did so. He was right, but she didn't want Aero to see how weak she was. Then again.. Training would be the only way to get better. And even if she didn't care so much about making it out of the war alive anymore, it would be nice to be able to see how far she could really expand her abilities.
She started walking towards him, frowning. "Fine," she replied. "But you're not allowed to laugh at me if I mess up, got it?"
ഛ Aero led Jessi to a space that was out of the others' view. He then stood in front of Jessi and said, "Alright, let's begin. First, I want to see what you can do. Let's start with the basics, so...I just want you to create a small fire in your hand." He was thinking that this would go well, and even if it got out of control, he'd just douse the fire with water. ഛ
ᗌᗌJessi nodded, and without another thought she extended her arm and a perfect orb of fire seemed to have come out of nowhere. She was a bit scared, though.
"What if I lose control?" She asked under her breath.
ഛ He was impressed at how effortlessly she could create a perfect fire. The fear in her eyes was there, though, and they stayed cautiously locked on the fire. "Just relax. If you stay calm, you won't lose control. Breathe slowly, in and out. Just focus on your breathing." ഛ
ᗌᗌShe nodded, taking the advice she was given and began breathing a little slowly. If she panicked, she knew it would blow up on her face.. Or she might throw it at someone if they were the cause to her panic. The fire grew a little, but it didn't seem like it was involuntary to anyone who was watching.
.. "Now what?" She asked, looking up at her cousin.
ഛ Aero was glad that her training was going so well. Without the pressure of others, she was making rapid progress. He watched intently as the flame slightly grew larger. "Lets see...try to make the flame rise and fall. This should help improve your control over it. The trick is to match its movement with your breathing." He crossed his arms and leaned against a nearby tree to watch her. ഛ
