- Welcome to Steel City, a lovely place set in Wayne, New York. Built in 1965, the city has had its ups and downs, but no one can argue that it's doing well for itself, especially ever since the famous Red Star Corporation made Steel City its center of operations just thirteen years ago. The local real estate is high, the tourist industry is booming, and each season brings a new beauty to the area. Would you like an apartment near the docks, where you can have a gorgeous view of Lake Ontario, or would you prefer a spiffing new home uptown near the gorgeous parks? Oh, but try not to wander off too far south, or you may get mugged by a kid from the Downtown Yellow Crew.
I'm sorry, have I given you a bit of a spook? You really should be careful, though. While Steel City consists of all these lovely things, you've yet to see beneath the surface. This is a city that never sleeps quietly, refuses to die, and forever drags its residents deeper into the darkness. The police are corrupt, and crime is rampant. Tourists will rarely notice anything wrong, but those who decide to come here and live out their lives will inevitably realize this to be a poor place to start a family. Stumbling across dead bodies in the alleys becomes commonplace, and you learn to simply duck when a drive by shooting occurs just a little too close for comfort before going on your way like nothing ever happened. Hookers and drug dealers can be found on nearly every corner in the downtown area, and the rich uptown folks simply pretend none of it is happening.
To a newcomer, the madness seems never ending. However, you will soon come to learn the rules, and live by them, granting your life the small mercy of some form of order. Oh yes, you will...
Originally, there were two major gangs who controlled the city: the Downtown Yellow Crew, and the Chemical Rascals. They fought viciously against each other for territory, dominance, and more importantly, money. In that end, they had pretty evenly divided the city, and would actually occasionally let their enemy cross that imaginary border to conduct business together, whether it was gang related or not. Of course, one would always have to be wary of getting shot in the back while conducting said business.
However, suddenly a new challenger appeared last year, a gang calling themselves the East Coast Specialists. Their intentions are to take the entire city by storm, and keep it as their own. They have thrown the previous order into complete chaos, and the two original gangs scramble to defend themselves while still upholding their rivalry with each other. Alliances will be made, broken, and made again, but who will truly be crowned top dog in Steel City? Whoever wins will have to follow one fundamental rule:
Don't die.

- General →
- I am the creator and ruler of this thread. I'm usually an easygoing person, so I'll let a lot of things slide. However, I will be firm when I need to be. If I ask you to do something, it's going to be for a good reason, and I expect you to respect my wishes and comply, unless it's totally off the wall crazy. Of course, for the sake of my sanity, I would appreciate it if you discussed just how crazy I sound either to myself or other RPers just to make sure I really am of sound mind.
Romance / Violence →
- If you plan for your character to have a crush on another character, it would probably be a good idea to talk to the owner to make sure that this is okay, just to be sure. I don't care if a character is straight, gay, or bisexual--romance is encouraged, but as soon as the clothes start coming off, or hands start wandering in places we would really prefer not to read about, please censor yourselves, and timeskip to after the deed is done. Same for violence; it's all well and good until it gets so graphic that readers are squirming in their seats in phantom pain.
Language →
- It's more than all right to curse. Sometimes cursing is a good way of portraying just how angry, frustrated, or stressed your character is. However, I don't want to notice that every other word in every one of your posts is "********." I also don't want your language to hit too below the belt. There are just some words you don't use, no matter what the situation is. If you're unsure if a certain word can be used or not, just ask me, and I'll tell you if it's acceptable or not.
Godmodding / Power Playing / Whatever the hell you know it by →
- Try to keep godmodding to a minimum unless you have permission from the other players to do so. Don't kill other characters without the owner's express permission, or you get an instant perma-ban. Your character isn't an invincible god (and they definitely can't be, considering this roleplay doesn't have any sort of mythical powers or creatures in it), they can get hurt, and they will inevitably be injured, perhaps even fatally. Your character can't dodge every hit, just as they can't land every hit. If your character does get involved in a fight, it's preferred that you discuss how things will play out with whoever you're fighting through PMing or posting in the OOC.
Metagaming →
- Don't metagame. If you don't know what that term is, click here. Your character isn't omniscient, so they can't know everything. Unless your RPC is some sort of profiler analyst, they're not going to know exactly what another character is thinking, nor of their past, or what they were doing yesterday with their friend at the mall. Unless your RPC stalked them, in which case your RPC is a creepy creeping creeper. Which is fine! But make sure to make it clear, at least to the readers, that your RPC is a creepy creeping creeper by writing something like:
Example
Edmund knew every move Anna had made yesterday. From the way she had scratched at her scalp, to the way she'd rolled her office chair across her office in boredom. She was so oblivious to him, it was almost painful. Yet, it was also funny. She'd never know that he, plain old reliable Edmund, kept watch over her like this. He was like a guardian angel; silent, ever vigilant, protective against all who would wish her harm...too many people wanted to hurt her. He knew this. It was why he had installed cameras in her office. In her house. There were so many places someone could just snatch her up away from him. But so long as he watched her - constantly, devotedly - he knew he could keep her safe. Always.
TL;DR - follow the ToS as closely as you can, don't godmod, and don't metagame, or we're going to have problems.
- Literacy →
- Everyone has their own opinion of what literacy is. Today, in this particular RP, my standard for a literate post is approximately ten sentences (or two paragraphs), with decent spelling, grammar, and punctuation. If your post looks like this:
Example of Illiteracy
rory loked over athim, bule eyes as blue as teh osean filled with tears "plz brp dont do this uhave to clam down!!!!" her borther pushed her, to mad to say anytihng but "I dont care waht u say Rori!! Im leavin and thats that!""
...then what are you even trying to get into this roleplay for? I most definitely don't want to see text talk in a post, unless your character is actually quite literally texting another character.
Writer's Block →
- It's understandable. Everyone has it at some point or another. What isn't understandable is when it happens all the time. Is it really so hard to write ten sentences? If it is, then maybe this RP isn't the one for you.
- Etiquette →
- Be courteous to your fellow roleplayers. If you get upset with another person, try to sort it out in a mature manner. If you can't resolve things peacefully, come to me, and we'll try to work things out together. Do not make a giant hullabaloo, insult or threaten people, and then leave. I have seen it happen way too many times, and I do not want it to happen in this RP.
Don't ignore posts. Do your best to read over everything, even if it takes a while. Don't worry, we're patient people, we can wait. This isn't a race to the finish line. Don't skip people without asking them whether or not it's all right first. We don't want to leave anyone behind just because you got impatient, and decided it wouldn't hurt to continue on without that person. However, if someone doesn't post for an unusually long time, and you've been waiting on them this whole time, come to me about it, and we'll figure out what the story is.
If you're dissatisfied with this RP, or suddenly gotten busy, and you want to leave, please notify me. I can't stress this enough. It makes things run much more smoothly, and I can simply erase your profile with confidence, instead of waiting two months for a no-show, unsure as to whether or not you actually left. Believe me when I say that I won't take offense to your leaving; I've been there, I understand.
I just need to know that you are leaving.
- Profiles / Applications →
- All profiles must be sent to me through PM. I want the subject to be titled "Murder at 3:00." Reservations are accepted, but will last for only a few weeks. If you're not a regular in the OOC, you have one week to make a post after I've accepted your profile before I erase it, because I have no definite way of knowing that you're working on it unless you talk to me. If you're having trouble coming up with a first post, just let me know, and I'll lengthen the time limit for you.
I reserve the right to reject a profile due to lack of good spelling/punctuation/grammar, and I most likely will look through your posting history to make sure you'll be able to keep up with the RP. If I believe you can't, you bet your bottom dollar that I won't accept your profile.
- Characters →
- I don't want your Mary-Sues or Gary-Stus that have super ultra tragic pasts, are impossible to beat, cause unnecessarily blown up drama, and know everything under the blue sun. It's inevitable for everyone to have some pretty bad or just plain sad moments in their life that help define them as a person, but when it's an overwhelming boohoo sob story that motivates every decision that they make, or even is written in such a way that it serves only to justify them doing something ridiculously over the top or having constant extremely overemotional outbursts, then that's when you've crossed the line of mildly annoying to "OH GOD I WANT TO KILL THIS GUY JUST TO MAKE HIM SHUT UP!"
You may notice that there is an "age limit" assigned to each gang. This is due to the fact that I don't want to see any sixteen year old prodigy lieutenant colonels who have already somehow fought in a war, and were then unceremoniously discharged for some bullshit reason. Please, don't ask to be the exception, because I am most definitely not going to let you. Just like there is a reason why there is an age limit to drinking alcohol or driving, there is a reason for this.
Pictures →
- Photobucket is your friend in this RP. You have to put the picture of your character with your post, every post, so that the rest of us can more easily identify your character. Not a link, but an actual picture that you don't have to click on to see. Don't use a gigantic picture that takes up nearly the entire page, because that's just an eyesore. Try not to use a single tiny picture, either, because that can be equally annoying. Don't use an avatar, from GaiaOnline, or any other website, unless it's actually been drawn. If you still want to use your avatar, I'm sure one of us could direct you to a good art shop.
Regarding the Leaders and 2IC →
- If you take the position of a leader in one of the gangs, you're going to have to be prepared to be dedicated. Not super dedicated, because I know we all have lives outside of this RP, but I'm going to need you to be a heavy presence in the OOC so that the RPers who have characters under your rule can be free to collaborate with you. New kids may be too intimidated or lazy to message you directly, so knowing that you'll be in the OOC to help out will be a relief for everyone involved.
For the second in commands (Lieutenant General, Heir, and Viceroy), be prepared to have to be a heavy presence in the OOC in case your leader dies in the RP. Because if an RPer who's playing the leader can no longer participate, their character is going to be killed off, and you are going to be the new leader. If you have a problem with this, just talk to me, please.
- Posting →
- Post at least once a week, unless you're waiting on someone. Otherwise, hang out in the OOC, or even just post there once in a while, so that I know that you haven't disappeared on me.
OOC →
- The OOC thread was made for a reason. I do not want to find half a page made up entirely of OOC comments in the actual RP. If I do, I'm going to ask you to delete those, or I will simply delete them myself. If you continuously do this, I will give you two warnings before giving you the boot.
Timeskips →
- About every fifteen pages of posts, there will be a timeskip to keep the activity lively. As you scroll down this page, you'll find the time/date/weather post, the function of which should be obvious. With the way this post is set up, the timeskip will go from morning → late morning → noon, etc. I’ll try and make at least two announcements.
One will state as a heads up that the timeskip is coming, and will give us all time to suggest if we want a longer timeskip, and, if need be, allow you to wrap up character interactions within at least one post. If agreed upon, the timeskip can be as long as a day, a week, a month, or even one month, two weeks, five days, seven hours and fifty-three minutes to the dot.
The other will be the actual timeskip being implemented. It will be announced, characters will have wrapped up what they were doing, the decision to skip one month, two weeks, five days, seven hours and fifty-three minutes exactly will have been made, what happened during that one month, two weeks, five days, seven hours and fifty-three minutes will have been plotted out amongst each other, and the RP moves on as normal. However, if no such amount of time has been allotted, we will simply move on to the next time of day, staying true to the pattern of morning → late morning → noon, etc.
Again, these are made to keep the RP rolling along. However, the number fifteen isn’t exact. It is an approximation. If nothing interesting is happening and we desperately need another timeskip, one could be put in place in ten pages. And the opposite is also true. If by chance fifteen pages of completely interesting, full of action, keeping you on the edge of your seat suspense, pulling your heartstring’s type drama, or so many explosions that this RP could be confused for a Michael Bay film is going on, I may let it play out for a few more pages. Just not forever.
Posting Styles →
- I'd appreciate it if you didn't use neon colors in your posting style, or at least use just a little bit instead of centering your style around said neon colors. Your posting style doesn't have to be super complicated either. Sometimes simple can be best. However, if you do want a posting style, but have no clue as to how to go about getting one, feel free to ask around in the OOC. I'm sure at least one person will be able to help you.
- Other →
- I reserve the right to add or detract to this set of rules.

- Pros →
- Well functioning, fully trained members
Illegal access to military weapons
Near complete control over the docks
Well funded (but not nearly as much as they want and need)
- Cons →
- Holds the smallest amount of territory
Far fewer members than the other gangs
Refusal to delve into the drug dealing business unless it involves steroids
The real military is none too happy with their existence

- The Chemical Rascals are a gang run by the most powerful and influential company in the city. They took up residence over twelve years ago, and have shown no sign of ever leaving. Many have tried to make the connection between the gang and the company, but few have been successful, and those who were...well, let's just say they're swimmin' with the fishes now. They're not nearly as well liked by the civilians, though the CR do try their best not to kill them. Maim a little, maybe. Only because killing one means losing another potential customer for their company. Of course, this isn't the only reason why they're not well liked. They like to burn down company buildings that are coincidentally rivals of the Red Star Corporation, and are part of the reason why the police force is now so corrupt. They're vicious, unforgiving, intelligent, sneaky, and willing to put down their own members if it means furthering their own success. Pft, politics.
Their symbol is the flaming black star, which represents their tendency for arson, and their belief that they will be--or already are--as powerful as the stars themselves. This symbol is usually tattooed on a member's lower left collarbone. Though both the gang and the company use a star as their symbol, the company defends this use by claiming that the Chemical Rascals are simply trying to frame them for their criminal activity. They are also known to be called those sneaky bastards the Flame Terrorists.
- Pros →
- Extremely good funding
Decent sized territory
Highly trained members
Control over the wealthy residents
Access to advanced technology
- Cons →
- Members must constantly watch their back around fellow CR members
Members must deal with company politics
Most members are required to take a desk job to keep their cover
The rank system is based mostly on technicalities; a Vulture is unlikely to be promoted to Crow, and Rats have a 98% certainty of never being promoted.

If you succeed, you'll be shipped off to your next mission, preferably one with little chances of running into previous contacts. You have only a 2% chance of ever being promoted, and no one can ever transfer into the Rat position, because Rats cannot be branded with the Chemical Rascals' tattoo for their own safety. In fact, if given a mission to spy on another gang, you're most likely to get the brand of that particular gang. If this happens, you'll usually end up useless afterward, and killed to keep your information safe. - The Downtown Yellow Crew is the oldest gang in Steel City, having appeared shortly after it was built in 1965. As such, they have good reason to feel as though they should have first dibs on the city, and as far as they're concerned, everyone else is trespassing on private property. Of the three gangs, they are the least well liked, if only because the DYC is mostly comprised of simple thugs who don't mind mugging little old ladies for a quick buck. They're not nearly as organized as the other two gangs, but they make do with what they have, and they're the ones who successfully initiated the corruption found in the local police force. They'll take in just about anyone, and maintain a fierce, almost family like loyalty to one another. Like a hive, if you mess with one, you mess with them all, and that is a very large force indeed.
Their symbol is the crown, to represent their loyalty to their leader, the King. This symbol is usually tattooed on a member's back. They are also known as those stupid punks the Southside Force, or the Gold Crowns.
- Pros →

Intimate knowledge of every alley and back road in the city

Far less discretion in covering up criminal activities
More members get arrested more often

You take care of the lesser matters and assassinations, pass down orders from higher up, and control the Street Soldiers.
XXXStreet SoldiersXXX
(2/?)XXX
The same as the Foot Soldiers and Ants, you are the cannon fodder, scouts, spies, extortionists, and drug traffickers. You are the most likely to get arrested, being mostly untrained, young, and...less educated.
(1/1)XXX
It should be obvious what this position is, for the King's word is law among his or her subjects. You are the closest thing to royalty in Steel City.
XXXViceroyXXX
(1/1)XXX
Otherwise known as the second in command; should the King fall, you are the one who takes over, and you help the King bear the burden of running such a large gang.
XXXRight Hand ManXXX
(1/1)XXX
You are the King's right hand, his bodyguard, and his closest confidant. If both the King and 2IC are away, you are the one who leads the gang.
XXXDukesXXX
(3/4)XXX
You are part of the King's inner circle - a trusted adviser, a powerful fighter, and a sentinel of DYC territory. To help your King remain in control without being overwhelmed, each Duke has been assigned a fraction of DYC territory to keep tabs on. You control the Generals.
XXXGeneralsXXX
(0/9)XXX
Next to the Dukes, you are the King's strongest and most trusted fighters and assassins. You help control the Captains.
XXXCaptainsXXX

You take care of the lesser matters and assassinations, pass down orders from higher up, and control the Street Soldiers.
XXXStreet SoldiersXXX

- East Coast Specialists Headquarters
- Set in the warehouses near the docks, this is where the ECS keeps their offices, barracks, mess hall, equipment, and training areas. These specific warehouses are under the ownership of the General under a separate name so as to avoid suspicion. There's no discernible difference between the HQ and the warehouses owned by separate companies, but anyone who comes nosing around are usually quickly sent away by the local workers. Little do the civilians know that these "workers" are actually ECS members patrolling the area, making sure no one stumbles across something they shouldn't.
Docks
- The docks can be found to the north of the city, right on Lake Ontario. Within lies the central headquarters of the East Coast Specialists, who control the territory surrounding it.
Blue Blossoms Tea Shop
- A modest Japanese tea shop owned by a woman known as Miss Maya, who runs a right ship within her business. It can be found squeezed between two larger buildings in the Chinatown area with a couple of benches to rest on for a bite to eat. All rules must be obeyed, lest you be kicked out in a most humiliating manner by the owner. Popular for its delicious drinks, it's a quiet and peaceful area to conduct business, or to just hang out with friends. Unbeknownst to Blue Blossoms' customers, however, is that underneath their feet is an entire cache of weapons for the East Coast Specialists to take advantage of, for businessmen are not Blue Blossoms' only patronages.
Red Star Skyscraper
- The central office of operations for the Red Star company, it's the tallest building in Steel City with a hundred and thirty-two floors, and is set smack dab in the center of the city. The front lobby is as luxurious as any five star hotel's, but as soon as you hit the fifth floor it's like any other office building...though they're perhaps a little more polished than most. The boss's floor is located on floor one hundred twenty-five. Security is taken very seriously here, with card keys necessary to reach certain floors, and passwords being changed every week.
Chemical Rascals Headquarters
- Located deep under the Red Star Skyscraper, the civilian office workers are completely unaware of the multiple sub-levels settled beneath their feet that can only be accessed by elevators, which require IDs, card keys, and a password to go beyond the basement known to the public. At first glance, it looks like any other floor in the skyscraper, but as you delve deeper you'll notice the rooms dedicated to interrogation, surveillance, strategies, weapons, and other technology. There are other entrances that can be found in several parking garages set throughout the city, which have the same set requirements as the elevators do.
Chemical Rascals' Safe Houses
- Scattered across the CR territory are several safe houses, which are kept up to date on information from the main hive. They, too, are set mostly underground, with numerous secret escape routes. They exist in case something happens to the main HQ, and the gang needs to scatter. They also provide a place to temporarily live for those members that need it.
Downtown Yellow Crew Headquarters
- The DYC are scattered, staking claim to numerous buildings in their territory. They use these buildings as living quarters, drug houses, and makeshift brothels. The central HQ, however, can be found in an old abandoned apartment complex deep within DYC territory. This is where the King resides.
Hellsgate
- A bar that doubles as a fight club, all who want a good, fair fight are welcome. If they can brave through the Tiger's territory to get there, anyway. Have the courtesy of not killing your opponents, and you may get a chance at fighting the owner herself!
House of Diamonds
- An extremely popular nightclub owned by Roger Bowden-Fields, the currency is vice and sin of a very broad variety. Some crazy business can surface here, but the police know to stay well enough away if they want some extra spending money. Those who don't have a certain crown stamped on their bodies will have a hard time finding this place a safe haven.
Carmina Cafe
- A cute and popular maid cafe that can be found in one of the few neutral zones in the city. They make the best desserts.
Steel City Police Station
- Located on the outer edges of CR territory, the police station is where...well, this should be obvious. But don't worry! You have a good chance of being released if your leader likes you enough, and is willing to pay a fine price! Because, you know, you're totally worth as much money as it takes to get you out of accidentally dropping soap in the communal showers.
Hammer Time Bar
- A bar located near the police station, it's a popular hangout for ECS members, but occasionally other gang members will party there, too. The ECS just don't do anything about it because they're afraid of being banned. Best alcohol in the city, yo. Who'd wanna pass that up?
Robinhill General Hospital
- A hospital that sits on the ECS/CR border. You go here if you've been injured too badly for a home aid kit to fix up.
- New places can be added upon request.

- What This Is ↴
- These are important events that have occurred so far in the RP, thus recorded for newcomers, or people who have simply gotten lost along the way. Follow this shining beacon of light, and you will probably be okay!
- ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
- Morning
DYC Captain Adiemus Flancray attempts to rob a jewelry store. He is only partly successful.
DYC Duke Roger Bowden-Fields returns to Steel City from a business trip, and meets the King in her throne room to discuss current events, and the issue of one of his men having betrayed him.
Reaper Melody Venus meets the Boss over an issue with her assigned Crow, who has disappeared, and is suspected of having either been killed or turned traitor. She puts in a request to find him. Her request is denied.
After her meeting with Melody Venus, the Boss, Rory Murphy, has two Rats approach her for assignment. Rat Elizabeth Pelletier is assigned to snoop around ECS territory, while Rat Sherlock Bagira is assigned to find the DYC's central headquarters.
Street Soldier Lizbeth Meyer interrupts Roger and the King's meeting, and nearly brings about Madam Black's wrath until Roger intervenes on her behalf. He takes her under his wing in the hopes that she'll become a valuable commodity to him.
DYC Duke Anita Neeraj comes across ECS Lieutenant General on the streets, and both head to Hellsgate where they take up the challenge of fighting each other.
A young girl named Sicily Jones unexpectedly asks to meet Rory Murphy, and is taken to her office to speak to her.
Reaper Devereux Renzo assassinates the CEO of a rival company named d**k Roman, and his female companion. Vulture Liam Denzel cleans up the scene.
Reaper Devereux Renzo experiences a car crash in DYC territory, and escapes relatively unharmed. However, he does run into some trouble with the local gang, which includes the infamous Duke Anita Neeraj. Reaper Joanna Soyya, Heir Frank Bellantoni, and Crow Samantha Vincent arrive as backup.
Boss Rory Murphy assigns Vulture Canaan Stone as Sicily Jones' temporary babysitter. She then receives a mysterious text message from Lieutenant Colonel Azrael Faust concerning key information regarding the East Coast Specialists.
