The Mantis, labeled as thugs, pirates, and thieves, live on the Islands of Silk and Spice, off the southeastern coast of the Crane Coastlands. They are experts in range and naval combat. The other great clans, Dragon, Crab, Phoenix, Unicorn, Crane, Lion, and Scorpion, were all granted their power through the gods. Not the Mantis though, they earned their blood drop by drop.
The Mantis Clan is living proof that fortune favors the mortal man. The Mantis never admit defeat, no matter what foe they face. They tenaciously cling to everything that is theirs, refusing to surrender and expanding their holdings throgh the sheer determination of their samurai. Cast out from the Crab the dawn of the Empire, the clan's founder Kaimetsu-uo was forced to forge his own destiny, purchased with his own blood and sweat. With only a handful of followers, he traveled to the remote Islands of Silk and Spice and formed his own band of Samurai, the Mantis Clan.
Throughout history, the Mantis have played a number of roles. They have been heroes, defending the Empire against gaijin attackers during The Battle of the Raging Seas. They have also been villians, such as when Gusai Rioshida attempted to overthrow the Emperor and claim Rokugan for himself. For the most, they have simply remained unseen, trading with various clans and accumulating great wealth with their knowledge of the seas around Rokugan.
During the Clan War, Yoritomo led the Mantis into battle. Bitter over centuries of treatment as lesser men, the Mantis unleashed their anger against the Shadowlands in a determined effort to prove their worth to the Empire. Against all odds, the gambit succeeded and the Mantis became a Great Clan.

Definitions- Terms you should know that are used in rokugan.
Shadowlands- Tainted by obsidian, they are horrid monsters that plague southern rokugan.
Nezumi- Rat like people, they are often called Ratlings.
Rokugan- The Mantis homeland, also shared with the seven other great clans, the nezumi, and shadowlands.
Samurai- A warrior that lives by the code of Bushido.
Shugenja- The rokugani equivalent of a sorcerer.
Monk- A follower of the Tao that has dedicated his or her life to it. They are imbued with magical powers that help them, either in hand to hand combat or some other form.

Their story as to why they came to Gaia....
The reason the Mantis came to Gaia, was really an accident, they were meaning to sail to Gaijin lands to attack but got lost and ended up on the southern coast of Gaia. They have set up a small castle and are working on one half a mile to the East.

The Castle.
This castle's name is Kyuden Tsuruchi.
It has five floors.

The Floors.
1-The entrance hall, if you continue to the back, you will reach the Mess Hall.
2- Once you go up the wooden stairs, you will find the Infirmary in front of you, a hallway continues to the right and leads to the Sparring Arena.
3-The bedrooms, each one with a bunk-bed, they are seperated into two parts, the common rooms, and the leaders' rooms. The leaders rooms are filled with a king sized feather bed, a chest-of-drawers, and a nightstand, each and every room comes with a box of matches and five candles. There are ten common rooms, 20 people can fit in them. There are five leader rooms for five leaders. One of them is especially equipped with a closet, for me, Tsuruchi.
4- These are the washrooms, five in all, each with two toilets, and one shower.
5- The attic, this is where we keep our weapons caches, I would say what is in there but that's confidential.

Name- Tsuruchi Hiro
Weapons- Longbow made of oak, imbedded with jade shards.
Arrows, fifty to a quiver, they are made of steel, the tips are jade.
A katana and wakizashi.
Armor- Hard leather, worn on the chest.
Spells- Inner sight, let him see through anything five feet thick or less, by concentration on the object.
Other- Highly trained with the bow, he favors it over all, he is at an average status when it comes to the katana. He keeps a packet of poison in his cheek, he can bite it and spit before it takes effect, when it comes in contact with cloth, it is adhesive, it burns throught one foot of cloth every five minutes, one foot of metal every seven. If it comes in contact with skin it just burns but is easily washed off. If it gets into your bloodstream, it starts to kill red blood cells very rapidly, in five minutes you pass out from shock, and lack of oxygen.

Weapons: a long bow made of manizita wood, a couple more inches taller then herself. Arrows are made out of manizita with a posion tip that makes the head look black.
Armor: Doesn't really wear anything protective just regular leather clothing.
Spells: her powers her dark like her past. Able to manipulate shadows.
Other: since the age of five has been training with spells and the bow. Has took on the name of Reaper for the battle long ago that many thought left her dead.

Other- she was created from spiders but is warm hearted and genraly lovable.

Armor- Splints of makeshift wooden shin gaurds and shoulders as well.

Weapons- Shortbow made of oak, black decorated with bloodred jewels. Arrows, 40 to a quiver. A Katana and a Wakizashi. A Nagamaki and A Naginata.
Armor- None.
Spells- Dispel Taint (only certain times of desperation), deflects attacks from taint creatures and block demon spells. Telekinesis, let's him move objects and creatures (people, animals, etc...) using his mind.
Other- Excelently trained in the use of both the Naginata, and the Shortbow. His skills with the Katana, deplorable. His skills with the Wakizashi and the Nagamaki, average.

Weapons: Dual katars(wristblades if you dont know) scythe with wieghted chain.Two 2 foot daggers.
Armor: Black hardletcher wears a trenchcoat lined with ringmail
Spells: Shadow minipulation. Necromancy. Golem creation.
Other:Wears cloth over his eyes giving the impression of blindness

Name: Yoritomo Mia
Weapons: A few simple throwing knives lightly laced with a mild sleeping potion, only enough to knock one out for a few hours. Trained as a monk for a short period of time has made her very capable with her fists and feet, since she has no other weapons than those listed above.
Armor: Dislikes armor which she refers to as "heavy and useless", she usually wears fine silken clothing like that of royalty, to give others the impression that she is yet another dainty, fragile woman.
Spells: None.
Other: One of the many thieves born from a long generation of bandits, she was bred (literally) for the "career". Mia has a deep, passionate hatred for mages or wizards of any sorts, and rarely speaks to anyone of that "filthy" kind.

Walks out of his room and goes down a floor to the sparring arena, he starts to shoot off some arrows at a target about thrity yards away.

Goes to a corner where a man sized statue is, its on wheels, he wheels it to the center and bows to it. It springs to life and starts wildly attacking him with its stone hands. It hits him in the side and he rolls over winded. He gets up and concentrates on the statue that is slowly coming towards him. He pulls out his katana and stabs it where if it was a human its heart would be. It turns back to a normal statue. He wheels it to the corner from hence it came.

Goes back up to his room and lays down on his bed, thinking.

He wakes up in a cold sweat, having a dream about the settozai was horrible. The settozai, was a seven foot tall monster, from the shadowlands it was an onisu with many legs and dressed in armor. Even though Yoritomo Kumiko had torn it to pieces earlier this year, he could still remember the pained screeches of the livestock it used to eat.
"AH!" He screams and sits straight up. A flock of birds outside of flew off in fright when he screamed.

He sits on the edge of his bed and starts to wax his bowstring. He then polishes his katana and starts to practice with it, he stood in his favorite stance, bokuto.

After receiving his letter from his opponent, he heads to the sparring arena and gets out two wooden katanas.

His feet make a soft stomping noise upon the floor as he walks towards the stairs and climbs to the second floor. His eyes shift as he continues walking, the sounds of his weapons clanging against eachother. His Nagamaki strapped to one side, his wakizashi and katana on the other. He sighs a bit and removes his quiver and shortbow from his back as he nears the Sparring Arena. He sets his things down against the wall and looks around. "Hello?!"
He smiles a bit and unloads the rest of his weapons.
