                                  Accompanying Greer

Busying himself with making a new friend

Hook, line and sinker; he could only admit to meeting a small number of Scotsmen, but each and every one had been too proud of his country's prime licquor to turn aside the opportunity to promote it. Being the brash, patriotic Scot that he was, it was easy enough to figure that Greer would happily help educate the curious foreigner. It mattered not that Jianyi already knew a fair amount about the malt licquor - after all, he was rather fond of his spirits. What mattered was that his feeble acting had the desired effect.
Which it did. As the other two declined the offer, he inwardly grinned. Let them share one another's company; it would be interesting to see which of the two would consider the other insufferable first. Or would they take pleasure in one another's company?
                                  Place your bets please...

He mulled over Sherlock's words as he led the young Duke towards an empty spot on the other side of the room - though not too far, for he still wanted the other agents within his field of vision. It was, of course, a rather well known phrase. He felt a bitter taste in his mouth as he repeated it within the confines of his mind: May you live in interesting times.
                                  Unfortunately, he already was.
                                  Fortunately, he thrived upon it.

The Duke now monopolised, he glanced about himself as though confused.
" How unfortunate...I can't see the boy who offered me the drinks. Perhaps when he next makes his rounds we could attract his attention. " He sighed, playing at dissapointment before gazing up at the scotsman.
" Whilst we wait perhaps you could answer some other curiosities of mine, dear Duke. " He smiled behind his fan, hiding the lower half of his face. " You're quite the public figure; I discovered your family's name in a book the other day and have heard it often on people's tongues. However...strangely there is little known about you. You're quite the enigma. "
He kept steady eye contact; whilst his smile could not be seen his cheeks were still lifted, a sign that his lips were still upturned...but his eyes were cold. " One would think that a young man such as yourself would be prevalent in high society. There should be stories upon stories relating to you. " He stepped closer, his voice dropping so that it could be heard only by Greer.
" I wonder...what have you to hide, young Duke? "

The Duke Montgomery
The charming Scotsman is currently: Being escorted by his friend for “drunken merriment”

The Duke knew in the back of his mind that the Chinaman simply wanted to split the group, which didn’t really affect his mood either way. One, two, three, it didn’t matter to him. His power would allow him to either take them all out before it became an issue, or run away when things became too tense. He wasn’t a coward in any sense of the word, but he wasn’t an idiot either. If it came between life or death (and for no good reason), he would choose life. Based on the interactions, they seemed more concerned of his motives than each others, which was a good thing. Their concern gave him insight on a few things.

One; they thought he was a loose cannon and fully expected him to cause a scene based on his personality. He loud, raucous behavior made a statement in many a mind, and even individuals who had no idea that he was a Magi became wary when he came into a room. He had crashed many a party and gotten into many a drunken stupor, spreading his intoxicating merriment at even the most serious of events by the end of the night.

Two; they knew nothing about him. The late Duke had taken many precautions to assure that his son’s midnight romps had not gotten out to the public. He also made sure that the public did not find out that one of London’s most notorious killers for hire was the future Duke Montgomery. His shame that a Scotsman had taken up such a hobby when in a friendly country could only be topped by the fact that his only son enjoyed the company of men as much as women. He died ashamed of Greer, which is something the present Duke preferred to not dwell on.

When Jianyi speaks, vocalizing his disappointment at the lack of serving boy, Greer gives his usual lopsided grin, about to ‘comfort’ his lack of liquor before the Chinaman speaks once again.

For once, Greer listens without interrupting. His grin never fades throughout, but the gears in his head are whirring.

He was right this whole time, they knew nothing.

”I’m fair puckled at this, bonnie! Here I thought we was getting’ along jus’ fine.” He shakes his head, grin never fading. ”Ye a’ready know the important bits ye do, jus’ as I know the important bits ‘boot you.”

His grin, still unchanged, takes on a different look overall as his eyes narrow, ”The not so interestin’ bit put me pop in the ground. ‘Died of a broken ‘eart’ they say. Ye really want to know?”

XXThis was most certainly not where he predicted he’d be on a boisterous Saturday evening, but there he was. Heaving a sigh of what could only be frustrated exasperation, Robert shoved his hands into the pockets of his trousers and pointed his weary gaze upward to the darkened sky. Truthfully, this was deplorable; if anyone was to catch sight of a notable physician such as himself practically hovering beside a blatant drunkard for so long would only draw mocking conclusions as to why he stood outside Lady Sybil Harriford’s fine home. They’d only just arrived, he and his apparent company. And already he was slouched outside her manor waiting for the woman at his side to cease her atrocious retching so he could resume his regular business. Glancing to the right, toward where the entrance to the mansion would be, Robert heard another small army of hoof beats attempt, vainly, he might add, to drown out the sounds of vomit splashing against the grass where the shivering limb of a woman knelt as if in prayer. Holy communication to what deity, he’d no clue.

After another bout of sickness, the lady turned her pallid face toward him and offered him a shaky grin. “You know, you could just give me some of your wondrous medicine and I’d be jolly as a lark.” Sighing, Miss Juliana as she was so called, wiped off her skirts from where she knelt and stood up, her legs unsteady at first as she took a faltering step back toward Robert. Clearing her throat, she had the grace to blush before she motioned they return to Lady Sybil’s get-together. “Hmm. Perhaps it was a tad early for me to get so caught up in everything…”

Robert shot her an incredulous glance, his mouth folded into a line of disbelieving petulance as he shook his head. “If by ‘caught up in everything’, you meant falling down drunk, then yes. Quite too early for that nonsense.” By this point, they were unfortunate enough to have returned to the entryway that led them back inside the house, so they tried to unobtrusively resume socializing while hoping no one noticed their prolonged absence. He dared not perform any of his seemingly magical healing abilities while in such proximity to so many others, so his guest would just have to grin and bear it. Twas her fault for partaking in so many spirits before they even arrived!

”Oh dear,” Robert whispered to himself when he spied a couple of familiar faces. If anyone was to notice his former absence, it would be them. Shooing Juliana away so she could mingle with some other men (seeing as she was not married yet, she easily captivated their feeble attentions), the doctor then decided to cautiously approach the two men admiring a certain portrait. Of a man. Oh, right. That was the Lady’s late husband, may his soul rest in peace. Glancing back at the door to ensure no one was obviously watching him, he shuffled over and loitered a few feet away from the two very different men. Frowning, he took the moment to really examine the painting himself; why not? It was there, and he knew so little about art that he could not even pretend to hold an honest conversation about it with the Lady Sybil herself. Where was she, anyway? Tearing his gaze away from the stoic image, Robert peered around until he spied the woman. Now with poetry and literature, he could perhaps hold his own. Still, he didn’t want to chance it just yet.

Why did he not attend Sir Rupert’s party? Robert felt he would have been much more at home with the medical “experts”, even he deemed them quite stupid in his own mind. He also failed to fit in with the military personnel that would likely congregate at Moore’s… Either way, the physician couldn’t claim much familiarity with either bash. He would just have to hope for the best, because the Magus had crucial investments in both parties, so he’d been informed.

When the two did finally turn to look at him, Robert offered a wave and said, ”Oh, um. Hello there.” Soon another might arrive, if his suspicions were correct. Hopefully it was someone better suited for this sort of situation.

He had to admit that Greer was certainly quite admirable; most men, when faced with the Chinaman's rather abrupt form of interrogation, often became unsettled. Some even accused him of being an 'impertinent foreigner' - as though his nationality alone affected whether his behaviour was acceptable or not. It would matter not if he was a native, for the crux of the issue remained that he was too curious for his own good. He was sticking his nose in the business of others, trying to unearth all that others strive so hard to keep hidden. It always seemed unfair to him that they should keep their lives a secret...which was a little hypocritical, considering that Jianyi kept his own life as a closed book.
Bits and pieces were known of the Chinaman. His business was known of course (or at least, the more publically acceptable side of it) but he shared little about his personal life. He often found that people simply didn't want to know. What did they care if he had a family or hobbies? He was just another pawn of the Empire, a British puppet in Chinese lands. Whatever fortune the man made faded in comparison with the profit the English made.

Jianyi's eyes lit up as the Duke's face took on a more sinister expression. It seemed he was treading on dangerous ground...but really, how else was he going to spice up an otherwise boring party?
" Is that so...? " He spoke slowly, taking a step to close the distance between them slightly. " In that case, Duke Montgomery, I'm all ears~ "

A flash of metal caught his eye; A deep set sense of self-defense demanded that he divert his attention to it's source. A silver tray was being proferred to the pair, a set of wine glasses balanced atop it. Shooting the servant an irritable glance, Jianyi reached out to take a glass of wine and lowered his fan to drink from it. As if he had forgotten their previous exchange, the elder man smiled pleasantly at his companion.
" How are you finding live as one of the Magus? I knew your father, though we were no more than acquaintances. " He raised his glass to toast, hope riding on his voice (although it was difficult to tell if it was genuine), " Here's to a more substantial friendship between us, young Duke. "

Jasper smoothed out his clothes as he checked himself over in the mirror. His aunt Alicia had insisted that he wear the suit she'd gotten for him rather than his dress uniform. He didn't see that there was any difference between his dress uniform and the suit that he was wearing now. Aunt Alicia must have though, to insist that he be a gentleman rather than a military man while escorting her to the gathering at Lady Sybil's. How his aunt had managed to convince him to escort her to Lady Sybil's gathering rather than find a way to attend Robert Moore's was beyond him. He would have to make the best of the night.

"Daddy!" A smile graced Jasper's usually stoic face and he glanced at the half-open door of his room. It was flung open completely when a small, blonde haired girl ran into the room and to Jasper, latching onto his leg. "Daddydaddydaddy!" She looked up at him with large blue-green eyes that reminded him of her mother. "Daddddddddddy, I want to go with you! Please, please, pleeeeeeaaaaasssssseeeee!" She looked like she would start jumping up and down, begging her father to take her along. She was dressed in her nightgown, but she probably thought that was perfectly fine for the party since it was what she wore to her very fancy tea parties

But it was designed for bedtime and early morning tea parties, not for boring parties. And Jasper was sure that this party was going to be extremely boring. He leaned down and extracted her from his leg and lifting her up into his arms. "You can't Lucy. It's already your bedtime." He grinned and kissed Lucy's cheek. "I will have a tea party with you and Aunt Alicia as soon as you wake up tomorrow." Lucy hugged herself to Jasper, nodding. He smiled gently and carried her up to her bedroom, where the maid Aunt Alicia hired took his daughter from him and up to her room. Jasper sighed and hurried back down so he was ready to escort his aunt to Lady Sybil's. The carriage ride was filled with his aunt trying to get him to agree to send his little girl to a boarding school once she was old enough. He didn't want to send his little girl away. He would be returning to Canada with Lucy and he didn't want to wait until she was a young lady ready to be married before returning there.

He stood by his aunt's side right up until she called out to Lady Sybil who, in reply, called her Lady Grace. No one called his aunt Lady Alicia. Jasper stood beside her, silent and feeling awkward. His aunt introduced him and he bowed before he was released from Alicia's side. He glanced around the room as he stepped away from the two women talking together. A night of nothing that interested him. How bored was he going to be tonight? There were men clustered around a portrait, looking as out of place as he felt.

ANDREI x ZERNEBOG

ALL THESE THINGS ARE NOW BEFORE ME ENDLESS DEATH OR TIMELESS GLORY
ON THIS NIGHT OF GHOSTS RETURNING TO THE LIGHT OF BRIDGES BURNING

Time seemed to curse him, as the ride from his humble London home to Lady Sybil's seemed to be taking forever instead of a few minutes. Maybe it was his dread for these types of social events that made him feel like that.If it were for him, he would've given the blind eye to the invitation that had been sent to him, burn it in his home's fireplace without remorse. Yet here he was staring down at the envelope that contained his invitation. His name written in delicate letters, in thin black ink. Staring at the letter he only wondered why they had obtain such interest in this social event. What did this woman, or anyone in that party had to offer? That truly made him curious. He pondered for some time as the sound of the horses' gallop echoed in his ears. Unfortunately, at that moment, with all his dread, nothing came to mind. How he hated to feel in a such a way. "Soon enough I suppose" he assured himself as he placed his invitation inside his coat pocket and leaned back, closing his eyes, as he awaited to arrive at the Estate.

It came to him, the thought of other Magus being present there. Others just like himself, who knows how many, in one same spot. With this thought crossing his mind he began to ponder how the night's events would turn out. It was a rare sight to have many of them in one place, two were a multitude, more than two it could be considered and entire world. This made him feel rather unease for a brief second, yet all the same that thought slipped his mind as a grin crossed his lips. It was going to be a truly interesting night, he only hoped that they did not become exposed to the other humans. That was a big no no. But what if they exposed themselves? The humans would be threatened of course, but they could always manipulate them to their will and have some sort of agenda moving, but that could bring more trouble than anything else. Besides, Andrei always did prefer to work from the shadows. He also doubted that he knew any of the other Magus that were attending. He scarcely knew anyone in the organization. Something which he could take advantage of.

In a matter of moments the carriage came to a halt and it's door was opened. Slowly walking out he nodded at his coachman and began to make his way to the Estate's main entrance. There awaited Lady Sybil. The lively female was talking and laughing with her guests. Her dress was as extravagant, eccentric, as it could be. She always did seem to like having a dress that would definitively out do the last one, though in Andrei's eyes she always looked ridiculous. He fancied more simple attire. "Oh my! Andrei, it has been an eternity since I've last seen you! I thought that your dreadful winter had finally gotten you!" said Lady Sybil as she parted from a group of guests and made her way to Andrei. She always exaggerated the Russian winter. She made it seem as if it would obliterate an entire population in less than a season. "It has been quite some time hasn't it?" he replied as he kissed her hand. He had to admit, he hadn't seen the woman in a rather long while. Five years was it? He could not say for certain. "The winters have been merciful with my people and I. We are much grateful." he said, playing along with her joke. "You look as extravagant as ever my lady" He truly felt sorry for whoever had to design her outfits. You flatter me Andrei. Oh please, do come in. Do not be shy. A silent and lonely man such as yourself should make friends here or even find himself a wonderful woman!" she said to him as she gestured for him to walk inside. How he hated all of this.

The Duke knew he had to be quick on his feet with the Chinaman. Although he was far from stupid, he scrambled a bit when it came to this quick interrogation. Luckily he already knew what he wanted to say as thoughts ran through his head. Jianyi began to close the gap between the two of them by taking a step forward, and the Scotsman felt something change in his head as his defensive mechanisms kicked in.
A flood of adrenaline flooded his vision quickly, although his expression never wavered. His grin tightened as he grit his teeth and he could almost feel his pupils dilate as black overtook green and his heart began beating rapidly, increasing blood flow all throughout his body. His core temperature rose, and his hands tightened into fists.

All of this occurred within a split second, and vanished almost instantly when the server came, offering wine.
Tank ye Jock Tamson.

He took two glasses of wine himself, downing one in a single gulp before his sinister expression turned jovial once again and he held the full glass up in the air, tossing the empty on behind him with a shatter. He could feel the eyes of the stern military types behind him, but what did he care, really?

He listened to Jianyi speak before drinking the second glass of wine. Ironic that he would be questioned about how it feels to be a Magi after a slight loss of control such as that. ”Aye I’m fair puckled at some of me new responsibilities, but gie it laldy, aye?” He could feel a twitch in his lip before he spoke of his father, ”Me pop din’t really like yer kind, if ye don’ mind me sayin’. I like ye jus’ fine, but he was a cranked ol’ bahooky. Din’t like anythin’ that weren’t said by ol’ Jock Tamson hessef.”

He held up his empty glass to do cheers with Jianyi, eyes open and grin as wide as ever, ”Ye root yer face, bonnie, but ‘eers to that!”

The only evidence of his previous loss of control were his still shrinking pupils that darkened the normall bright eyes.

His heart picked up pace.He hated being caught off guard like that, Especially in public. It wasn't as if it was the other person's fault though. Lucia realized that he probably should have noticed the other males presence in the first place. Or at least have heard his foot steps as he approached. But what could do? His dull human ears weren't as nearly as useful as the rabbit ones he had used so many times before. And this man didn't just startle him he called him out on his social awkwardness. Blush now touching his features Lucia turned awkwardly to give greeting to the stranger. Or, well, Not so stranger. Lucia recognized the man before him as a member of Magnus, But they had never really talked, Actually he hadn't really spoken much to any of the other members, and only knew most by their 'name'. "G-good Evening . .. Um Charon was it?" He said the last part under his breath. He didn't want Lady Sybil to hear him addressing this man by a name she didn't know.

tab Just as he was about to make an excuse to leave, another man approached him. God, Just how many Magnus members would there be at this party? He didn't even remember this man's name. Of course it shouldn't have been a surprise to see other members, Since Lucia had known they would be joining, but he still felt strange about the whole thing. Lucia really did not like to socialize, Especially with people he barely knew. Both of these men seemed up for it though, unfortunately. He swallowed his rapid heart beat and coughed up a reply. "Good Evening" He said with a tight smile. How exactly was he supposed to make conversation with two people? His stomach was doing somersaults just thinking about the difficult task.Lucia wasn't sure why he was so bad at this sort of thing. When he lived in France, he had no problems making idle chat with anyone he came into contact with. But where he was from, everyone knew everyone. It was easy to chat with people you had been around your whole life. "Oh drat!" Lucia's attention was stolen suddenly. Just as the Lady host had been gesturing for someone to come inside, She snagged her sleeve on a sculpture beside her and it tore. She looked around quickly before locking eyes with the tailor. "Oh Lucia! Quickly I need assistance."

tab Lucia looked apologetically towards the other men and bowed his head politely. "Gentleman if you'll so kindly excuse me".He had never been so happy to have to mend one of The ladies gowns. "I'm terribly sorry about the commotion Andrei" She apologized to the man she was inviting In. Another one. Lucia recognized this man as a member of Magnus as well. His name rested defiantly in the back of his head, and he struggled to remember it as he approached the two. Not that it mattered. He couldn't very well address him as such in front of Sybil. "Lady, You must be more careful." He produced a needle and thread from his sleeve. He always carried one with him when he was visiting the house of a client. Specifically this client. She always ripped something. Lady Sybil introduced him as her Gown maker. "He makes everything for all of my events. Isn't his work lovely?" She grinned. Lucia blushed. Tonights attire was not at all his best work, but he was certainly proud of everything he gave her.

XXHe should have known. Known that it would have been far better to keep his mouth shut instead of acting like everything was fine and dandy when, in reality, it wasn’t. The Magus already felt the tension of a division of motives harrowing at its bones, and Robert was no exception. To portray him as overtly suspicious of everyone was a bit of an exaggeration, but he had no intention of brazenly getting into a tussle (verbal or otherwise) with any of them. That being said, the nearly audacious manner in which the Frenchman excused himself was enough to make him frown to himself, shrug, and offer a somewhat rueful smile at the man left over. Lady Sybil seemed rather popular this evening, as if everyone within the secret conglomerate decided it would be wise to try and speak with her about something. Their own incentives were unknown to the doctor, who let them be for now.

Remedying a dress took precedence over a great deal, apparently. Only slightly jaded by the hasty and rude exodus, Robert glanced at the painting one last time before he turned around to re-examine the field. Unfortunately, no one was dying, so he couldn’t use any of his expertise to do anything useful. All he could do was meander about looking for someone to speak to that wasn’t his drunken company. In all reality, the woman was already dancing with some bloke nearly twice her age. Well, if it got her riches, she’d consider whatever option that was available. Before he went in search of entertainment in the form of a good drink, Robert paused beside the remaining man. ”Would you like a drink? I'm headed to the bar, so..." Right. Offering someone alcohol was an almost surefire way to act amicable, so he thought he'd have a go this once. As soon as he received his answer, he ducked his head and made to briefly part ways.

As he turned to blindly walk toward the bar (because sobriety was a tad overrated, even if he had no intention to get as intoxicated as his lady friend), Robert spotted another poor unfortunate man destined to wait alone while he (apparent) partner for the evening chattered incessantly, as women were wont to do. He could attempt again, but the familiarly of the face made him hesitant. He knew not the figure’s name, but he knew his title. Malachi. Like the Jewish prophet. A Lieutenant, if Robert recalled correctly. Other than that bit of information, he knew not of the stoic figure loitering beside the gossiping women. Should he join in their idle talk? No. Instead, Robert glided behind the man, an evasive, ”Would you like a drink?” leaving his lips ere he could stop himself from talking. Sometimes, he thought it would be best for him to become a hermit and hid away from social gatherings such as these, but alas. He had duties being one of the Magus.

                                  Oh...?
It was just for a moment - just a split second in time, but still...it was there. The charming and cheerful Duke looked ready to strike, poised to leap into action and prove some of the more dark and sinister of his rumours to be true. The Chinaman considered himself lucky to have noticed it, for if he had blinked at the wrong time he would surely of not noticed the change in the younger man's face and stance.
Barely a moment, that was all it was. But it's fascinating all the same.
He made a mental note to watch this one. The Magus, all of them, were special and interesting but it was rare to bare witness to one making use of magic, if only for a very short amount of time.

The young Duke's actions with the wine glasses only increased Jianyi's amusement with him. The Chinaman raised his arm and chuckled discreetly behind his fan.
" You're certainly full of surprises, young Duke. " He mused quietly, almost to himself. The fan was lowered a little so he could raise his glass to the Scotsman's, although his head tilted lightly to one side as he thought over the other's words.
" My kind...? " He echoed, pursing his lips slightly. The Duke was going to have to be more specific; Jianyi had come across many people in London who had attached him to many 'kinds'. Normally the term was applied when he'd done something that was generally frowned upon.
He supposed, given that he had done little to offend this evening, that the Duke was referring to his nationality. With a gentle smile he dipped his head lightly, as though conceding to the other.
" Toleration is something rare in England. I both thank and commend you for it. " He straightened up and took a sip of his drink, running the liquid over his tongue in dissatisfaction. Wine was all well and good, but it wasn't exactly hard liquour.

He cast his gaze over the room, lingering on the other two Magus for a few moments longer than the rest. What do you suppose they're talking about...? No matter.
" What say you to a little 'excitement', dear Duke? " He asked of a sudden, glancing back towards his company. His lips had pulled into a rather suspicious smirk.
" Perfectly harmless, of course. "

His aunt was making sure that Jasper couldn't get two feet away from her before she called him back and introduced him to someone else that had flitted into her circle. He was beginning to suspect that Lady Grace was trying to find a nice girl that was okay with marrying a military man that already had a child. He didn't think now was the best time for her to be trying to find him a new wife. He'd loved Lucy's mother. Angela had a fire and strength about her that Jasper had never been able to resist. He didn't think that any women born in England and the posh, comfortable world his aunt was firmly settled into could possibly match Angela in any way. If they couldn't do that, they definitely were not the right women to be considered in helping to raise his child, his precious little girl.

He'd finally gotten away from his aunt once again, although he could see her looking to the rest of the girls at the party, as if she could draw all of the single women to her side and introduce him to them one after another. Escape from his aunt's side was beginning to seem impossible. Another young girl was approaching Lady Grace, taking the place of a few that had been asked to dance. It was then that someone from behind him suggested a drink.

Jasper turned, startled, and stared at the man. "A drink?" A frown flitted across his face. He didn't think that he knew this man, but he seemed vaguely familiar. Had he seen this man somewhere before? Jasper had been introduced to woman after woman since he'd arrived in London--the only time he would have met someone like this would have been if the other was a Magus. He opened his mouth to refuse but remembered the girl who was now greeting his aunt and nodded. "Yes, a drink would be nice." A stiff one.

"I am Lieutenant Colonel Jasper Williams." He added as an after-thought. He offered his hand to the man. "And you are?"

The Duke continued to grin at Jianyi while a thousand and one thoughts raced through his head. Had the other man noticed? He certainly seemed perceptive. The better question would be would he do anything about it, or because of it? Magi weren’t known, or allowed really, to use their powers where anybody could see, and it was especially dangerous to allow someone who very easily walks the line between ally and enemy to see the cards you had been dealt. He wondered among these thoughts if Jianyi was remotely aware of his kind of magic, his powers, because he certainly was not aware of what the Chinaman was able to do.

As he kept up his jovial appearance, Jianyi began to speak again, and the Duke gave him his full attention. Part of him felt like he was treading on potentially dangerous ground.

The biggest concern in the young Duke’s mind was if Jianyi would realize and use his lack of control against him. This one thought kept repeating itself, louder and louder, over and over again.

”Of course ye know I’d be up fer some fun! Who do ye think yer talkin’ to there bonnie?”

Though he had the inkling that it would not be harmless.

ANDREI x ZERNEBOG
daedalus
ALL THESE THINGS ARE NOW BEFORE ME ENDLESS DEATH OR TIMELESS GLORY
ON THIS NIGHT OF GHOSTS RETURNING TO THE LIGHT OF BRIDGES BURNING

As lady Sybil led him inside of her estate, whilst speaking of finding a woman, a perfect match for him, the faint of sound tearing cloth reached both of their ears. "Oh Drat!" A sculpture had don the honor of tearing her sleeve. Her extravagant, over puffed, and clowndish looking sleeve (as Andrei saw it) was torn. In his mind he only saw the worst. Her being such a woman who loved to impress others, such a woman who loved to surpass all other females in her domain, would soon take refuge in her room, searching for a dress she had yet to wear yet as equally or even more 'extravagant' than the one she was already wearing. Such a perfect way to start the night, wasn't it? Then as if it were a savior from Heaven itself, Lady Sybil laid eyes on another man. A blond man that had been standing near a portrait of Lady Sybil's late husband. Oh Lucia! Quickly I need assistance! she said, rather loudly. "I'm terribly sorry about the commotion Andrei" She told him as she saw the young blond approach them. "Nonsense my Lady. I understand" he told her in a rather calm tone.

Taking a second look at the other he noticed that he had encountered one of their own. A Magnus. Honestly, he had not expected to encounter one so quickly. He had only hoped that they would've avoided each other throughout the night, though he knew it was impossible...to his misfortune. Neither of them addressed each other. They both exchanged a very brief glanced. Some sort of acknowledgement crossed Andrei's mind, and most probably the other's as well. Producing a needle and a thread, the other began to work on repairing Sybil's torn sleeve. So before him stood the creator of the Lady's gown? How sorry he felt for him if the Lady made him design such a thing. Though on a second glance, he actually seemed to have enjoyed making the thing. That look on his eyes as he repaired it said a lot about it. Poor soul."Lady, You must be more careful." the Magnus told her. "He makes everything for all of my events. Isn't his work lovely?". Confirmed. He had produced such a thing. Honesty would only give him one invitation to leave this party and miss out whatever importance it had given to their unknown society. "Yes, his work is rather lovely I must admit. he replied with the same calm tone as before. "Andrei, may I introduce to you Lucia LeCu`yer; and Lucila may I introduce to you Andrei Zernebog" she said with a smile on her face. "It's a pleasure" he said as he nodded. He did not know the man himself he had to admit, but recognized him nonetheless. Maybe he knew something about this gathering that he did not know. Maybe some probing was in order, Andrei did really hate to remain in the dark. "Would you join me for a drink Lucila, once Lady Sybil's gown has been repaired?"

Jianyi chuckled softly, resting his hand briefly on the young Duke's arm.
" I had an inkling you might, Duke Montgomery-the-younger. " He mused. Given the Scotsman's rather tense reaction to proximity just moments ago the Chinaman considered keeping his distance, but that kind consideration lasted for barely a split second before being overruled by a lust for mischief. He stepped close, leaning up on his tiptoes to bridge the difference between their heights. He lifted his fan to mask his lips as he dropped his voice to a low whisper, casting his gaze across the room.

" Do you see that woman over there, close to that potted fern? The one in purple. " He conspired, pausing to allow the Duke time to locate the woman in question. Just as the Chinaman described, there was indeed a lone figure of a woman stood beside a potted fern, her dress a subtle and dark violet decorated with pretty lace and pearls. She was middle-aged, perhaps in her mid-forties, but it was obvious from her sense of fashion and make-up that she was trying to turn back the clock. She stood nervously, occasionally glancing towards a group of men nearby who were deep in conversation.
" I happen to know that Mrs Crawley has a weakness for handsome young men, despite being married to the investor Mr Crawley. " He chuckled, tilting his head slightly. " It's rather amusing, actually, considering that her husband has a penchant for young women himself...especially the exotic. "

He leant back onto his heels and parted from the Duke, raising his gaze to meet the other's green eyes.
" I propose that we go to keep the dear woman company. She's bound to appreciate the attentions of a charming young man such as yourself...and I shall very much enjoy putting her husband at discomfort as well, should he wish to interrupt. " He smirked. Jianyi left out the part where he explained exactly where all of this information had come from, but every word that he had uttered had been true.
" ...Shall we? Lead the way, dear Duke. "

The fact that the Chinaman hadn’t found some way to excuse himself by now meant one of two things. One being that he hadn’t noticed the slight change in Greer’s demeanor, which really was the best case scenario. Or two; he had noticed and he wasn’t afraid. This notion did not make the Duke remotely comfortable.

When he mentioned the woman in purple, Greer turned his head, staring at the woman. He immediately didn’t like her. She was tied from head to toe in jewelry and expensive clothing. Her face was plastered with make-up and she clearly wasn’t the age she probably told everything. Everything about her was fake and unnatural, and as a man from a place where beards were a sign of respect and boxom woman drank as much as men, Greer did not like this lady at all.

When he came here with his father, he was forced to always be clean-shaven and dress in restricting clothing and you always had to wear something around your neck. His brethren had the right idea with loose shirts and kilts, he always thought, because right now he knew he was ten times more comfortable than the woman standing over yonder.

He paid attention to Jianyi, turning to him again and breaking into an even wider grin. They were going to go over there and blatantly tease the woman. He liked this idea, a lot actually. He grabbed a bottle of wine and two cups from a passing serving man and popped the cork with his thumb. ”Oh, don’t worry bonnie, ye bet I’m pure dead brilliant at talkin’ to lasses, even the elderly ones.” He raised an eyebrow, smirking to himself slightly as he got a brilliant idea.

”Ye got ta do me a favor though, I’m ta be yer entertainment for the night, aye? Well, I’m goin’ta be doin’ the dirty work, so I expect something in return.” He pointed to his check with one of the fingers holding the glass. ” A kiss from ye, bonnie. Afterwards, les’ she thinks we’re here together, aye? Give Greery a kiss, ‘cause he has nobody to warm ‘is bed tonight, aye?”
