Ruthless Demigod

March 14, 2563

It has been five years since the Didact's attack on earth. Never having relied on others to work for them, the Humans were able to rebuild and prosper far quicker than those of the covenant. Lost colonies were terraformed back to life with lessons learned to protect them from the threats of the galaxy. Warships survived long enough to be decommissioned into civilian use without worry of their fleets being overwhelmed. An age of exploration started again as humanity used the forerunner technology from the Janus keys to refine their slipspace travel. Sending floatillas throughout the unknown of their galaxy.

Of the few exploration flotillas send out, each consisted of five vessels capable of defending themselves or escape if need be. And each returned on the planned date without many problems, save for Flotilla zero-five. It had appeared a week after its planned return, and only one damaged Frigate remained. ONI took quick interest and closed the case as a slipspace accident. In the months after they worked to get what information they could out of the survivors as well as the ships systems. When they had come to their conclusion, Admiral Osman quickly alerted Lord Hood. The knowledge of what is a planet on the outer edge of the galaxy filled with Flood of ancient power.

As Lord Hood took in the news, he remembered the threat that had once assault Earth, and how it took glassing such a large area to clean it of the parasite. His hesitation was apparent in his actions, knowing that the galaxy was in danger of total annihilation. But with the planet's size being three times the size of Jupiter, with three large moons and a small asteroid field, no assault could be done and succeed as well as be covered. No amount of Spartans could be sent to die and keep the conflict a secret. He also believed he had no fleet capable of waging such an assault. Not alone.

Lord Hood did what could only be called reckless. He went to the public and openly warned everyone of the threat the Flood still was. Pulling all ships he could muster without taking from the planetary defenses, he prepared what would become the largest battlegroup in human history. Two-hundred and forty warships led by his new flagship, the Infinity-Class Warship UNSC Omega. Granted most of the fleet was comprised of carriers and Charon-Class Frigates. Publicly admitting his lack of expectation for success, President Ruth Charet formed what was called the UEG Militia. Using decommissioned warships, freighters, and civilian transports, the President was able to enlist many militiamen and retired soldiers led by her flagship, the decommissioned UNSC Infinity.

With a surge in numbers, ONI and Lord Hood conversed on how they could truly make a stand with most of their forces untrained and ill-equipped. Deciding that if they failed and the Flood began its spread again, old hatred wouldn't matter, Lord Hood looked to old enemies. He conversed with the Arbiter, Thel 'Vadum, to aide them in conflict. While those of Sangheili still did not care to work with humans, the thought of the parasite surviving and thriving pulled all the holds together. The hierarchy sent the majority of their fleet, led by Thel 'Vadum's flagship, the Shadow of Intent.

ONI had been tasked with increasing Lydus, a Jiralhanae chieftains, influence on the other brutes. One official grudgingly gave up a trophy of the great war that had been called the Fist of Ruckt. Gifting it to Lydus, the Chieftain exerted right as the chieftain of all brutes, uniting them all under him. ONI had even sent negotiators along to meet with various Kig Yar Pirates, the Eridanus Rebels and the United Rebel Front. Spreading the word of the eminent threat and monetary gain their was from aiding the growing battlegroup. It did not take long for Mercenaries, Pirates, and Rebels to come from any and all directions for their own purpose.

With a fleet of a thousand strong, Lord Hood found his courage. Releasing all information known of the planet, he and the other faction leaders worked to plan out their initial assault. With less information of the planet's surface than truly needed they blindly jumped to the planet, dubbed the Hive. It had taken time but they have finally arrived. The Battlegroup holds a tight formation with constant scans. They plan to have as much information as possible. All ground teams are being prepared. This, if successful, will be forever known as the United War. To the higher ups, however, this will simply be known as Operation: ATTRITION.

Rules

      No auto-hitting:
This means that you can't automatically hit somebody. You have to always be rping as if the other character or opposing side always has the chance to dodge a kick, a punch, a grenade, whatever. But this also means that you cannot dodge everything, either. For example, if three people shoot at you, you're not gonna Neo stop the bullets. However, you can run like Hell and hope that you don't get shot too badly.

      No god-modding or power-playing:
Basic rule. You may have power armor, some armor is better than others, but if you take three shots from a sniper-rifle to the helmet, your brain is splattered all over the pavement.

      No cybering:
If you want to have three minutes of ecstasy with another rper, I don't want to see it. If I do see it, I'm killing everyone who participated in it off. No questions about it.

      Follow the Gaia TOS:
Follow the Gaia Terms Of Service. They are the guidelines that will keep you from being banned! If you can't follow them...then you should not be on this website.

      Character limit:
You may have as many characters as you want as long as you post with ALL OF THEM. Though I will limit leadership positions to spectacular individuals.

      Infighting:
Yes, there will be fighting amongst the squads. The Brutes and Elites will have some animosity between each other, the Soldiers and ODST will dislike them both, and they all will have some problems with the Spartans. This is totally acceptable, as long as you are not being a d**k to everyone on the team. You may just find yourself unconscious in the middle of enemy territory with an unloaded pistol and one bullet 15 feet away, if you know what I mean.

      Posting Frequency:
Due to keep the story on board and no one left waiting for days or weeks for posts, the number of days without a post before your character gets removed is 3 days. This gives you enough time to do whatever you do or in life problems to at least get to us at some point and let us know or to come back and get a post in. If your absent for more than 3 days you will be removed from the RP.

      Literacy:
Try to write at the minimum, Two solid paragraph each time you post. I mean...if it's less than 1 paragraph every time I will be questioning your ability to roleplay in this rp. I understand writers block but if it happens for more than a few days straight...your outta here. Fluff is cool.

Death and/or killing of other characters:
You can't die unless you're put in a position where you're forced to die or you agree to kill off you character. Let it also be known that being killed off has to be AGREED UPON before it happens. Now...this isn't to say if someone puts a pistol to your head that you can't use some method of disarmament...this is to say that if somebody traps you inside a box laced with c4 and detonation cord with a timed detonator. Unless you can phase out of this coffin of boom, you're dead. Sorry...

      Text speak:
But if your talking OOC and want to say "OMG" or "XDD" that is fine...but I do not want to see "O h3y dood how r u 2day?" That is just getting ridiculous.

      Commitment:
Unless you are going to stick around, DO NOT submit a profile.
If you are only going to post twice and then never do so again...don't even bother joining. If you do this, You will be blacklisted and never allowed in here again. Also we like frequent rpers, if you don't post for more than three days you will be removed unless given notice.

Factions

UNSC - The United Nations Space Command. It is the main military branch of the UEG and for the duration of the Human/Covenant War they had complete control over humanity. After they war the UNSC returned control to the President of the UEG and its responsibilities lessened over the years. Their fleet is the strongest within the galaxy. Currently led by Lord of Admirals Terrence Hood.

UEG Militia - Formed with the thought that sheer power wasn't enough. I'll equipped and relying more on their numbers and advanced medical squads the militia supports any decision of the UNSC. Currently led by President Ruth Charet.

Covenant - The key remnant of the once great Covenant empire, it has spent the ten years trying to find stability. With the Huragok in control of the humans the Covenant was forced to learn how to make their repairs from scratch. Luckily other than the Jiralhanae it still has full count of it's subservient species, allowing it access to its numbers and technology. Currently led by Arbitr Thel 'Vadum

Lydus's Pack - Formed by a visionary of a Chieftain the pack has tried peace negotiations with the UNSC as well as the Sangheili. His influence wasn't enough to gain respect from all packs but what he could sway colonized mineral rich world and worked the next ten years mining what they needed and raiding what they couldn't get. When ONI arrived with the Brute Artifact and bestowed it upon him almost all remaining Brute packs followed under him. In return the Chieftain supported the assault on the Hive. Currently led by Chieftain Lydus

URF - The United Rebel Front that had survived the war against the UNSC and the Covenant Empire. Using highly upgraded and customized older warships they are still capable of holding their own. The current Admiral chose to aide the UNSC feeling that if they were willing to ask for their help that the threat was serious. Currently led by Admiral Percy Cole

Eridanus Rebels - Survivors of the glassed colony Eridanus II they have long since hidden away in the asteroids of Eridanus Secundas. With a fleet of over a hundred corvettes and many freighters the Eridanus Rebels have seen what the Covenant are capable of doing and upon hearing that the Flood was worse they sent ships and resources to the battlegroup. Currently led by Governor Jacob Jiles.

Kig Yar Pirates - Pirates that had left the Covenant ether at the end of the great war or some time before hand and spend their lives plundering colonies and ships. While a few vessels choose to join the battlegroup understanding the threat of the Flood most are only there to make money. Currently led by Kig Yar Pirate Princess Chur'R Krith.

Mercenarys - Soldiers of many species that make their living shooting things for money. Using whatever they can get their hands on and teaming up with whoever would work with them. While a few choose to join to help against the Flood most are their for monetary gain.

Enemies

As we have all been informed of, we are fighting on the Flood home world. The parasites have had plenty of time to evolve on this planet, so what we've seen before isn't the only types here. We've gathered reports of stronger variants of the already known Flood, as well as new types that we haven't yet seen. What we do now, however, is that there are multiple Gravemind-class Flood on this planet. They seem to be controlling the troops on the battlefield, and they are placed in very strategic locations around the planet.

Lately, we've gotten reports of the Flood being able to pierce the GEN2 MJOLNIR armor of the Spartans, so watch out: If a Spartan is taken control of by those parasites, we are certain that it can destroy an entire company of soldiers.

World/Terrain

View of the Flood World from Space
Image from the planet itself

We haven't been able to actively study the planet, so much of the terrain is unknown. However, from past experiences with the Flood, as well as the images above, we have reason to believe that the planet is covered in an organic material that promotes the growth of the Flood. We've tried glassing parts of the planet but the material grows rapidly, much faster than anything we've ever seen. We are now trying every possible thing to slow the growth, as well as remove any traces of the Flood in some parts of the planet, much to no avail.

In our attempts at halting Flood reproduction, however, we've noticed that the the Flood seems to have built the world upon Precursor technology. We have yet to come up with an understanding as to why or how they've done this, but we will continue with periodic updates on the situation.

Xerxes Frost
Fenrir's Commander

The Flood homeworld was a few weeks' journey through the void, otherwise known as the Slipstream Space. Fire Team Fenrir was travelling aboard a Paris-class heavy frigate, dubbed the UNSC Poseidon, for the trip. Xerxes, the leader of the squad, was awoken from his cryo-chamber, the sound of gas escaping as the door unlatched and swung open. It took a moment for the nude man to collect his bearings, but when he did he stepped from inside the chamber and stretched. His hair was braided and tied into a ponytail, which he quickly undid to let it drape over his face. He cleared his throat, coughing up a storm before looking to see a doctor standing nearby. Are we nearly there? He asked, breathing heavily as his body returned to complete functionality.

"Yes, sir. We'll be there in the next few hours." The doctor responded, walking to a table to grab some clothes for Xerxes to wear. "Here." Tossing the clothes to him, the doctor turned and waited for Xerxes to finish dressing."Thank you, doctor. Where is my team?" The Spartan asked, looking at the other cryo-chambers. There were rows and rows of soldiers sleeping inside their tubes, awaiting for their time to wake and join in on the battle for the universe. Some weren't going to make it, some might. It all depends on how the war plays out, and with what little information the Unified Military has on the Flood world, who knows how this will all go down.

At the question for his team, the doctor sighed. "Some may already be awake, some may still be sleeping." He responded, then came to do a small check up on Xerxes. "We do know that the A.I that is being sent with you still needs to come online, so you can go and do that while the others are situated." Xerxes nodded, then left when the check up was done. He walked towards the Armory of the ship and went towards a case designated for him. Pressing the numbers on the keypad in the correct order opened it, and out came his armor and the weapons he requested. They were displayed, ready to be equipped, but at this point in time all Xerxes wanted was in a pouch on his armor. Reaching inside, he pulled out a box of cigarettes and a lighter, which he then proceeded to place one of the cancerous sticks into his mouth and light. As he blew the smoke into the air, he began to walk down one of the halls towards the A.I Spartan assigned to his squad.

If any of his squadmates were awakened earlier, an alert would come across their neural interface that he was awake and moving. They could follow if they liked, or they could do just wait for him to come to them. For those still asleep, the doctor would point them to their commander.

Tara Shaffer - URF member
"Shoot me again? Best pray I'm dead"

Waking up with a gagging cough well after the door to her cryo tube opened with a hiss of compressed gas.Tara sat up and immediately brought her palms up to her eyes, in an effort to fruitlessly rub the cryo sleep on out of them. She swallowed as she sat there for a second longer, clad in a white jump suit, and winced at the foul taste of nutrients that was automatically supplied to them whenever any kind of personnel were put down for what felt like a brief nap. Waving off the doctor as she swung her legs over the side of the pod and climbed out, coughing just the same still. Tara finally relented and allowed the doctor to do his job, though she bore a light scowl throughout the necessary check up procedure from start to finish. "You've got the green light.."

"Thanks, sunshine." She tossed out and left it at that, considering it was all she needed to hear from the doctor. Proceeded to file on out from the room designated to house the cryo chambers. Spotting another open pod from the corner of her eye and the technicians standing nearby to prep it for the next occupant. Whenever that happened to be. In the process of her advancing towards the armory, her bare feet slapping against the cold metal that made up the UNSC Poseidon. She shook her head at the not so sudden realization. Here she was, a full blooded member of the URF, aboard a UNSC ship and not under arrest and capital punishment. Life sure had its way of throwing out a good surprise here and there. Which, speaking of surprises, a message suddenly came across her neural interface, citing that the commander of her squad was up and walking around. Well before herself and any of the other names attached to the squad's roster. She would've chalked it up to him having an air of bravado about himself considering his status as a commander. But, she knew better than the judge a book by its cover. Or, in this case, title.

Lingering around the armory for no longer than she needed to. Tara had first taken stock of her belongings stashed away in her locker, a menial task for some. But, an important one to her no matter the situation at hand. Whether she was on a URF owned ship or a UNSC shuttle, it was a habit that she found hard to shake through the years. Without as so much as a word, the Lance Corporal went about swapping one set of clothes for another. Donning a pair of tan slacks, boots and a black sleeveless tank top. Tara was quick to tie up the laces and shut the door to her locker there after, absentmindedly giving it a tug before she up and left the armory completely. Following after the trail of Commander Frost, as their linked neural interface led her down. Down towards a room that she hadn't a clue what was held inside. It looked important at least, judging by all the personnel milling about. Security and scientists alike. As Tara let out a huff of air beneath her breath and scanned about with an almost eagle like gaze. The URF member did her best to spot the dog of war, a Spartan, that had been given command of their little squad. Briefly, Tara settled her eyes on a person she would've thought to be the Spartan Commander, though the way he jumped as someone tapped him on the shoulder led her to believe otherwise.

Unless it was just UNSC propaganda, Spartans were supposed to be rock solid. Whether in combat or out of it.

Running her hands through her hair and tying her dark locks back into a well secured bun. Tara's gaze again settled on another person. This time, the Lance Corporal was certain she had the right person in mind. Almost as hard as it was to tell what a Spartan looked like out of that fancy armor, Tara was certain she had her man this time around. A man that walked with an unshakable air of confidence. Especially since there he was, breaking regulation and puffing away on a cancer stick aboard an active ship sailing through space.

User ImageGarret awoke to find himself in a cryo pod. He cracked as smile because just seconds before he was back on the struggle for Earth. As the pod opened up he was reminded of the sound of glass crashing around him when the building collapsed on his mother, but was quickly overwhelmed from the coughing. The infantry man looked around at all the pods a few open and some closed. “Clothes?” Garret asked between his coughs. After getting his clothes, he prepared for the many complications in his psyche evaluations. The doctor ,however, barely even noticed anything strange. “No comments or complaints?” Garret asked rubbing his 9 remaining fingers. “Nothing we haven’t already been informed about” The doctor said, “Some of your squad mates are up”
Garret slowly made his way through the halls accessing his neural interface to look at his squad. He saw that the squad leader was in the Armory, might as well learn how the squad leader rolls. Following directions the ODST kept reading the dossier on the squad and found one name that grabbed his interest: D.A.W.A.N. “We’re doing a mission with an AI? He said to himself in disbelief. He saw that he wasn’t the only ODST in the squad. Cross… The name sounded familiar. Buck spoke about him making a perfect score on some test in boot camp. Garret shook his head thinking to himself how the fellow Shock Trooper would feel about taking orders from their rival SPARTANs. Garret being so focused into the dossier nearly toppled over a URF female.
“Sorry miss, didn’t mean too” Garret said as he made sure that she was okay. He saw another man smoking. Way to make a first impression the SPARTAN squad leader, Frost.

Xerxes Frost
Fenrir's Commander

An alert shoot across Xerxes's neural interface when two of his squadmates were released from their cryo-chambers. One was an ODST by the name Garret Tion, the other a URF member known as Tara Shaffer. Their files were still fresh within his mind, even though he read them weeks ago. Xerxes had an idea of how to use them both to the best of their abilities. Taking another drag of his cigarette, he blew the smoke upwards into a vent above him. His already slow pace in his walk soon came to a complete halt. Turning his head, he moved the hair from his eyes to see the two following him.

"Ah, there you-" He said, stopping when he saw Garret run into Tara. He shook his head and ashed his cigarette in his hand, not having anywhere else to do it at the moment. When he looked down he noticed that the 'skin' had freezer burn from the cryo-chamber, making it very unsightly. He'd have to change it before getting his his armor, for fear of it becoming a hindrance later. When Garret seemed to have collected himself, Xerxes started again. "Ahem. I'm Xerxes Frost, nice to meet you both."
